Hampton Inn & Suites-Downtown-Tutwiler

Good downtown location. Lobby and commons areas are updated but still hold the historical aspect of what makes The Tutwiler special. Valet team is incredibly efficient and professional. Front desk team - not so much. Just not as polished and attentive as I'd expect. Actually had an unpleasant phone call while enroute to the hotel prior to check in with a hotel associate who was short and unclear in explaining what I was requesting.

We only stayed one night to attend an event at the BJCC arena, which was an easy 3 blocks away. There were lots of food and drink options in the area, and what we saw of the city itself was nice and clean and very pretty. If we ever go back, I'd definitely stay there again.

Very pleased with our stay. Nice room, nice restaurant. Easy walk to the BJCC concert hall... Would certainly stay here again

Nice hotel, the staff was wonderful. Nothing else to say.

The staff is uncommonly friendly and helpful and the location is perfect in downtown Birmingham. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable. The breakfast doesn't open early enough for early morning flights, but there is always coffee and tea downstairs. They packed a breakfast bag for those of us who had to leave before 6:00, which was much appreciated. I would like to have had a microwave and/or small refrigerator available, but the rooms are quite small and so I don't know where they would put either.

Old, dirty and the rooms were small. I would stay somewhere else next time

This hotel was great! It is an elegant piece of history and we loved it! The hotel is beautiful, the room was very comfortable and the location was just perfect! The bathroom was amazing - the shower was divine! The staff was very helpful and so attentive. We loved every minute and can't wait to come back for another stay!

We loved the hotel but the parking was a bit problematic. We had an appointment and thought giving the valet (only option) 30 min to get our car was enough time. This was not the case!! After they finally brought our car the entry way was blocked with several cars they had let unload brides made dresses and other wedding decorations. It took almost an hour to get our car and leave the turn about.

My sister and I spent two days getting to know Birmingham. The Tutweiler/Hampton Inn was a great choice! Centrally located with walking distance to most everything we wanted to do, nice atmosphere, historic ambience, very good complimentary breakfast, and a friendly, professional and informed staff. We did our own downtown walking tour using the Birmingham: Taking it to the Streets suggestions and had a great overview getting to know the city. We went to two theatrical performances while there and were quite impressed with both shows (one at Stamford, the other Red Mountain). Ate well (Brick & Tin, Fife's, Jim 'n Nicks, Peanut Depot). And have new understanding and appreciation for the Civil Rights movement (Civil Rights Institute, Heritage Trails throughout the city). Lots to offer, we weren't disappointed.

Such a lovely hotel. We really enjoyed it. 10 minute walk to the Science Museum.

I have stayed at this hotel when ever I have had business in Birmingham. It has a fantastic restaurant attached and the staff is always great. They over a shuttle to the airport and to other parts of town for other activities. AND, I don't believe in ghosts anyway.......

average and adequate, small rooms, wi-fi never worked even after a call to the staff

My room was fine, but my co-worker's room had a shower that didn't work and the hotel staff were unable to fix it in a timely manner.

We had a really nice stay here. No complaints. Staff very attentive and the breakfast was pretty good.

The only negative was $20 day valet parking. Otherwise it was a good experience.

Easy to access just off I 20/59 downtown, but no traffic or noise. Great bar, nice views, Henly Park across street. Suggest you park on the street or in a garage- they have valet only and get $18/day, even for a bike. Several really good restaurants within walking distance.

I'm originally from Birmgham and went up from Mobile to see "Wicked." I knew the Tutwiller from my history with the city and was excited at being able to stay there. That excitement turned to joy from the moment the valet helped park my car (I went in the wrong drive) all the way thru the same young man handing my keys back to me the next morning. Check in was a breeze, with the young lady even calling me by name BEFORE I introduced myself. The room was beautiful and looked out over the old Birmingham library, which brought back such sweet memories as that is where my parents took me as a child and where I developed my lifelong love of literature. The bed was soft, cozy and invited me to sleep. It was a wonderful evening and if I can get that rate or better, I would definitely stay again.

Being on business you don't normally stay in the greatest of hotels. This was a great classy hotel. A great job was done on the restoration of an old builing, keeping its charm, but very modern inside. Good breakfast and cheerful staff. I will be happy to stay there again.

Positive: - good location - very nice staff - comfortable bed - breakfast included Negative: - expensive - no parking except for valet at $17 per day - small room - breakfast looked more like what I've had in motels Overall, I think it's overpriced. Good hotels in other cities offer more or at least better quality for $160 a night. There is nothing to complain really about, but it's just the minimum necessary, which doesn't justify the high price.

Located conveniently off high,in downtown Birmingham, walking distance of civil rights museum and other historic atttractions. Friendly staff, small gym room but sufficient for our needs, however no pool or gift shop. 15 to 20 minutes away from 24 hour Walmart by highway. Very good trip.Free breakfast each morning.
