Me and some family just returned from Switzerland and we stayed two nights at the Hotel City am Bahnhof. We chose the hotel for its extremely location. It is just across the street from the train station. It is right in the middle of the old town and super convenient for walking around and sightseeing. There are countless restaurants in the area and it is right on the main central shopping street. The room was nice and roomy and the beds were really comfortable. Even the murphy bed we used since there were three of us. The bathroom was really large by European standards. Our room was in the front of the building right on the main street but noise wasn't really a problem. The staff was very nice and helpful. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel so I can't speak to it but I did walk in the breakfast room and the variety was not very impressive. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient place to stay in Bern.

I would say that the biggest advantage of this hotel is the proximity with the train station. Had a room with small bed. Nothing bad, room has a locker but looks all quite old and might need refresh. Still old keys which take a lot of place in your pocket. My room was quiet and breakfast is correct.

--The managment of the hotel should be more attentive to the condition of the room facilities : --The lamp on the desk was not functioning, the minibar was not cooling at all, and the coffee boiler switch was broken. ((We informed the maid who immediately brought us a functioning coffee boiler.)) --It was around 20 degrees outside and the heating was on almost all day till after midnight , i can't understand the reason, and we couldn't controll it. The room was too hot so it was very difficult to sleep, even with balcony door a bit open. --The pillows are extremely thin, the thinner we have ever had, no extra ones in the room, we had to fold them and add the towels too, but it was still very uncomfortable to sleep or put them on our back while sitting on the bed. (( i am wondering if people in charge of the hotel have ever tried how the bed and pillows feel like.......)) All in all, it seems that the owners don't pay much attention on how to offer a more comfortable stay to the guests, it would be easy by changing few things. Tip: Never pay the Swiss hotels cash in euro, only in francs or by credit card. We did this mistake and paid a huge difference to the actual price. But i think the staff should have adviced us about the best way of payment the moment we asked to pay. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Location couldn't be better!!! Less than 5 min. walk to the entrance of the train station. Just 30 m on the right is the bus stop of : 1) bus No 12 that takes you to the center and river in 5 min, get of at ''Barenplatz'' for the bear park and main bridge or at ''Zytglogge'' for the clock tower and caffes. 2).Bus No 10 takes you to the Rosengarten, get of at''Rosengarten''. Or you can walk 15-20 min. to the river banks and bridges. --Mini bar --Coffee tea making facilities --Great balcony on high floor with nice view over the street and station. --Comfortable and clean room. Table and chairs in the room. --Kind staff . --Excellent, fast wi-fi on our high floor.

We stayed one night and were thrilled with the help and materials provided for a great day and evening in Bern. Our front desk staff spoke at least 6 languages and was so helpful. The room was clean and the bed linens fab! The bathroom was large and clean. The view our the window was not desirable but who cares! It was a great price in a great location within a 5 minute walk from the train station and 5 minutes from great restaurants.

Hotel is just across from the main train station and city center. No parking. The down side is, you have to park in an office parking building which is hard to access unless you’re familiar with it. The staff gave no instruction as to how to get to the street level from the parking. NO air con and since it is by the central station, you get lots of noises.

The hotel is right opposite the the train station which was good. The rooms are of decent size, nothing fancy and very old but with spacious bathroom and a space in between as dresser and also very clean reception area was very small but staff were friendly and helpful. Bathroom basin got blocked on the first day but on complain they immediately fixed the problem. We didn’t use their breakfast facility so no idea about that. Overall, a decent hotel for a short stay.

Having lived in Solothurn for many years in the 1970's. I regularly visited Bern during that time. So coming back to visit my fathers homeland i have stayed in this hotel on several occasions. It is in easy walking distance from the Rail Station, very central for visiting old Bern city. Very clean, beautiful large rooms, I was on the floor with a veranda out of the windows, looking over the centre of Bern, the staff are very friendly and helpful, value for money, worth a stay.

Hotel is in a great location very close to the train station and centre of town. The hotel staff were lovely and friendly and gave us free passes to ride the trams and buses which pull up nearly right outside the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. We didn't have breakfast because we had to leave early the next morning so I can't comment on that.

Like the previous poster, it was very hot weather when we stayed here and the only choice is to keep your window open. Which would normally be fine, but unfortunately our room overlooked the main street train station and it was LOUD constantly. (Including a guy playing bagpipes on the street half the time... nothing like trying to overcome jet lag in a stifling room with a bagpipe serenade, haha!) The weather isn't the hotel's fault I realize, however a fan would have be a great addition in these circumstances not only to help with the heat but also to drown out the noise. The rooms are dated as to be expected from the pics, but the beds were very comfortable and the linens were nice. It's in a super-convenient location literally across from the train section and at the edge of Old Town, which is great. Breakfast was typical continental, and dining room is very pleasant and updated. I'd say this hotel is "fine" just for a quick stay, but request a room in the back if it's hot and the windows have to be open.

I know it seems that a lot of places don't have air conditioning in Bern, but it was in the 80's the day we were there. We were miserable the entire time. The room was large and spacious, but very dated. It is in need of an update! The beds were comfortable, but hard to sleep when you're sweating all night long. Since we had to keep the windows open we got to hear EVERYTHING outside. From the motorcycles to drunk idiots at all hours of the night. On a positive note the staff was excellent. When we commented on the heat and asked for a fan, she unplugged the one she was using and gave it to us. I wish I would have gotten her name, because she was awesome! The location of the hotel is great. Easy walk to the train station. We had a room on the top floor which was nice. Great view.
