Super nice owners and smooth check in. Room was clean, except for a smashed cigarette butt on the floor by the bed. Room smelled very musty/moldy. One window would not close unless pushed from outside. Beds Very hard, uncomfortable and lower at the head than foot. Furnishings and bedding drab and outdated. Shelf in bathroom falling off wall. Good location- walking distance to downtown shops/restaurants. Again, the owners were Very cordial.
My son and I were on a weekend college-visiting tour. We happened on the Mid-Town and took a chance. The proprietor was friendly, and the room was clean and dry. These are very important qualities in a motel. I believe in supporting local businesses, and am always happy to find places such the Mid-Town, providing a good honest service. Not a small thing. I would gladly return.
Although nearly half the price of competitors, I received a warm welcome rolling in around 1am after driving in pouring rain. The room was clean and comfortable. Since it's a family run business and they weren't full, the charming couple who runs it actually let me sleep in a few extra hours past checkout time and didn't charge any extra. They even saved me some breakfast.
Room and furnishings were modest but clean, service was friendly and accommodating, breakfast was simple with a basic continental style but sufficient, the surrounding grounds are being repaired and under construction
My wife and I were on a road trip and everything was booked except this motel. When checking in we could feel fleas jumping on our legs. We walked into the room that smelled of urine. I called another location and thank goodness they had a room available. We left the room and were promptly refunded and left. My advice stay away from this place. Front desk person was nice and helpful but the property needs a lot of work.
This Motel, while traveling into Old Bennington, reminds you of the old Southern style charm type of establishment. It probably was once a beautiful place. It has charm and potential. The inside of the rooms were outdated, which would of been fine, had the room been clean! The carpets were disgusting and the bedding definitely was questionable. The beds were so lopsided (BOTH), I had to roll up the comforters and place under the mattress just so I didn't have to fight to stay on the bed! Being a glutton for punishment, we returned during another visit and requested a different room...guess what? We will never stay there again nor recommend a stay for anyone!!
All motels in the area were busy, so I took 2 rooms (we are 4 ) in the "midtown motel". I write this review sitting in a stinking dirty room+bath, with nothing good to say about. I'm really angry upon myself, that unlike what I do usually- check before signing in, I didn't do so.
My husband and I were getting away for our anniversary. We checked in late on Saturday because of the weather. I had made our reservations on priceline and looked at the pictures and thought it looked pleasant enough, and I requested a king bed. When we got in our room we were greeted with two full beds. Upon further inquiry, we were told that the pipes had burst and the king size bed was unavailable. When we went to get in the first bed, the sheets were stained, as well as the blanket. Thank goodness we had two beds! We ended up staying in the other one. When we went to take a shower, my husband informed me the water was not very hot!! So I took a cold shower, both that night and the following morning. When we woke, there was a small pile of snow inside our room. I was thoroughly disappointed!!! The motel looks nothing like the pictures. We could not get out of there fast enough!!!
I expected to find motels when leaving Troy, NY but finding none, I was forced to drive in a bad snow storm in the dark all the way to Bennington. NOT FUN! First motel on the gps was closed. The second said it offered luxurious dining and lodging (and looked like it had luxurious pricing as well.) The third had a vacancy and I pulled in! I assume it was the proprietor's son in the office, a young, friendly and "totally fluent in English" guy. He advised me that the room's ceiling wasn't as bad as it looked. Yeah, it was in a state of remodel and joint compound and taping were obvious. The hallway was lined with old TV's. Ours was a flat-screen but the remote didn't work (dead batteries?) The heating/cooling system was by a wall-mounted heat pump but it was so close to the bed that the noise was bothersome. Plumbing fixtures seemed really old but the bathroom and large bedroom appeared clean. At $70 (including tax) it seemed pretty expensive to me but it did serve as an over-night "emergency" stay on our trip destination to Woodstock.
Nestled next to the Green Mountain National Forest, it is quaint and cozy. It is not just the clean sheets, soft pillow, and hot water in the shower, but there is a feeling or atmosphere of friendliness and hospitality. Whether urban or rural, it is rare to have this type of ambiance. From Phoenix, Arizona, I may never get back there. If I do, however, I'm stopping at the Mid-Town Motel.
