This is more like a traditional hotel, which is recommended if you want to remember how it was before the big chains. The rooms are cozy and nice, and there is a nice backyard in a traditional Chinese style. Good breakfast which varies from day to day, and the hotel staff is superior and very helpful, and speaks good English. The only problematic issue may be its location. The hotel is located pretty deep on a very narrow street which taxi drivers hate to get into. This means you'll have issues when trying to get there by taxi (a taxi driver will likely want to drop you at the street entrance, leaving you up to a ~500m walk). Getting a taxi during peak hours might also be difficult, so if your flight leaves in the afternoon, expect to take subway to the airport. 15 minute walk from Dongsi station. Be aware that the Orbitz map puts this hotel in a wrong place. Google maps also have it in the wrong place.
Our room was a bit cramped and the shower arrangement in the room was inconvenient to say the least, but the furniture itself is beautiful and very atmospheric. The location was good for exploring once we learned our way around the hutong, and the staff was very friendly and always willing to help. The breakfast was also ample and a nice mix of Western and Chinese.
We stayed in this Hutong hotel for 3 days. The staff were most amazing, helped us book tours, taxis and dining locations in central Beijing. The location in Central Beijing is close to most attractions. The breakfast buffet, though in a small room, with few options, was hearty and provided a good start to the day.
Nice hotel in the Dongsi hutong area with modern bathrooms. Free rental bikes in good condition. The staff is very helpful.
Wife and I stayed at the Sihe for 10 days and loved it! If you are looking for a business type hotel with conference rooms and exercise equipment, this is not your place. If you are looking for a great Beijing experience hidden away in a real neighborhood where you say good morning to the neighbors in the hutong, this is your place. Staff are excellent and help you out with any requirements. Breakfast is solid - they cook you eggs of your choice and have a lot of buffet options. 10 minute walk to a metro stop with two lines (Dongsi - Lines 5&6). Won't regret this hotel!
We were traveling to Beijing as tourists and wanted a local hotel vs western chain. This was the perfect spot for us! From being picked up from the airport by their driver to all of the helpful suggestions the front desk staff provided, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Yes the rooms are small and wifi is only available in the courtyard but we spent such little time there that it didn't impact us. Breakfast was great every day and included made to order eggs along with local items like dumplings and cooked vegetables. If you are looking to truly experience Beijing, I can't recommend this hotel more!
This small hotel is located on an alley (hutong in Chinese) in an authentic Chinese neighborhood and is not in a high-rise area. The staff is very friendly, the breakfasts are great, and the room is clean. Our room was furnished with Rosewood furniture and had a very small modern bathroom, a queen size bed, a dresser and a couch. Total including the bathroom about 200 sq ft. Our room was very quiet. If you like American style hotels, this is not for you. When we first arrived we were shocked by the drive up the alley, which is just wide enough for a car to pass- although our driver had to move another car out of the way to reach the hotel. People live in this neighborhood. There are lots of bicycles, scooters, and people in the alley. Initially we were concerned about our safety. That concern turned out to be unfounded., The neighborhood was very safe- we walked in most nights. It is necessary to walk in because cabs cannot find the place. So we rode the subway (about a 15 minute walk) for our transit. It rained hard one night and we had to me moved to another even smaller room because the water was streaming down the walls in the bathroom and was about 2 inches deep on the floor. However, everyone was helpful and concerned for us. Overall, although initially shocked we came to really like the place. A real experience in China with real people.
My brother and I stayed here for a week. The staff was amazing! Very helpful, friendly, and English-speaking (big plus for those of us that do not know Mandarin). The location, in the middle of a hutong, really helps you get to know the city. The hotel is also fairly close to a metro stop.
