I have stayed at the Hotel Alter Speicher about 10 times the last 8 years. And already booked it for next year as well. Always a pleasant stay in good sized and clean rooms. During the weekend the street can be a bit noisy.
The hotel has a very central location, only a few minutes from the railway station, main shopping street and the Marienkirche. Our room was comfortable and quiet although we were woken at 6.15 by a lot of clattering in the courtyard next to our room, presumably staff unloading supplies for breakfast. The hotel is small and unpretentious and centrally located, but at 98 Euros including breakfast we thought it was overpriced.
The hotel is in the Old Town district and in combination with giving a typical German ambiance impression, this is why we chose to come here. We paid €98/night for a standard bedroom, without breakfast, which seemed a fair price as it was holiday season. The hotel had a sign saying was undergoing restoration work, but we didn't see any workers, so unsure if the works have been done or not. + Breakfast - the choice was big in comparison with the price. We were pleasantly surprised. + Pleasant staff + Although there is no parking belonging to the hotel, we found there were big parking areas nearby on the other side of the river - Had a 3-nigh reservation and realised we'd have to sleep with earplugs as our room (402) was facing the street and therefore more noisy than average. One of the windows didn't close properly either so letting in more noise I believe, but by the time we discovered it, we had already unpacked our things and couldn't be bothered with asking for another room. However, as it was mid-week there was not too much noise in the evenings, but had it been hotter outside, we would not have been able to sleep with our windows open - Safe in the room was very small and did not fit an iPad - There was no mini-bar - The mixer in the shower was not combined, so it was difficult to find the right temperature on the wather - The recurring bright Phoenix design, was a bit over-the-top. Literally, everything covered this; bed, chairs, carpet, curtains, paintings....
Nice Hotel in a fine building. Friendly staff. Good location near the central Places and near the Water. Room at the street side has some noice. Good rooms and good breakfast. Parking nearby to 6 euro a day. Nice small city.
I stayed here for one night in july, and is very pleased with the stay. Got a large room (#303) facing the street, with windows you could open to get some air. Maybe a little noisy from the street, but I slept without any problems. I didn't pay to get internet access, so can't say how that was. The staff was friendly as expected, and I didn't have any problems not speaking german.
Worst hotel during our trip around northern Europe. We only stayed at 3-stars hotel and this hotel are really not worth their 3 stars. Our room was terrible. No windows and no ventilation. Felt like there hadnt been any air in the room in 6 years. We knew we wouldn't get any sleep that night. Then I decided to try the computer and internet in the reception area but it was completely useless. I decided to take a shower (because at least the bathroom had been renovated after 1995). After 5 minuter in the shower the water suddenly became boiling hot, then ice cold, then boiling hot again. During the night we panicked so much from the heat and lack of air so my husband wanted to go and sleep in the car. I stopped in and we forced ourself to sleep for a few ours. We left as soon as we could in the morning... and hated how we had paid 100 euros for no sleep, no shower and no internet. Oh and even if it is mainly international guests in the hotel - everything in the hotel is in German only. The upside? Big free parking over the river, nice staff in the reception and good location.
We had room 110 (I believe) and were extremely pleased with the size and sleep quality. I think it was essentially a junior one bedroom with a curtained off room with a bed, then a nice pull out sofa bed, a refrigerator, Jacuzzi tub and separate toilet area. The hotel is a short walk from the center pedestrian zone. None of us were really pleased with the breakfast. It was fine, I guess, but I think next time I would go to the local bakery.
This hotel is vile...at breakfast the meats smelled bad and the salads tasted off..The food was cold..The staff where rude and abusive..The orange machine for juices actually had old orange line of scum! The rooms where unclean and outdated..wallpaper was dirt and carpets had curious stains and mice droppings everywhere. The manager was extremely rude and on one of the mornings staying she was horrible to other staff and guests...actually fired staff member in front of us and told her to pack and leave...and it was the staff member who could only actually speak English and was helpful...it was a horrible experience and I wish never to go there again
This hotel has a bit of new and a lot of old. Great location in the old town. Lots of pubs and restaurants near by, although a lot of closes early, at least on weekdays. The rooms were spacious and the beds were good, laaarge pillows and has a minibar. Slept well, but with a room facing the street, the traffic starts early, and it can be a bit noisy on weekends. The rooms can be hot in the middle of the summer. Not much parking space close by. The staff were efficient and helpful. Breakfast was good the warm bits of it,was actually nice and warm. Supermarket close by. You must pay for wifi. Lovely city with a lot to see and do.
The hotel was very nice for a 3 star hotel. It was conveniently located, the rooms were average size and tidy and clean. The bathrooms a little small, with squeezy soap containers, and the toilet paper was the simple single sheet type, however good for being a 3 star hotel. Better to bring your own toiletries. The staff were helpful and friendly. The beds were comfortable. The only thing which made it difficult to sleep was the heat. There was no air-conditioning, and being July it was hot. We had the windows open however it did get warm, so pick a cooler summer to go, or avoid summer. You need to pay for Wifi, however it is not expensive. Lubeck is a lovely city to visit.
