Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Over the course of at least 10 years, we’ve stayed at Avila village Inn, at least half a dozen times. For the most part, they’ve always had very nice accommodations although at times feel like some of the rooms are a little long on the tooth. Not that it’s that important to us, but the new TVs are a bit cumbersome to navigate. And finding a couple of hairs and uncleaned areas within the hotel room, were a little disappointing. No longer being able to access the athletic club across the way was a little disappointing, but I get it with costs and all. Lobby personnel could be a little more engaging. It’s hard to deviate from staying here because the location is so wonderful especially being able to run or ride a bike to the beach on the Bob Jones Trail. Overall, it’s still a very good value, but we may consider other newer hotels in the area.

My recent stay at Avila Village Inn unfolded as a deeply restorative escape amid the gentle sycamores of Avila Valley. Arriving after a long drive from Bakersfield, I was immediately enveloped by the inn’s serene Craftsman charm—the lobby’s inviting fireplace beckoned, and the staff greeted me with genuine warmth that set a relaxed tone from the outset. My room welcomed me with plush linens, and the soft crackle of the gas fireplace. Each morning began with leisurely hike along the shaded Bob Jones Trail, leading effortlessly to Avila Beach’s pier and sandy shores for sunsets that painted the sky in vivid hues. The days melted into peaceful evenings of unwinding and I left feeling utterly recharged by the inn’s thoughtful seclusion and effortless proximity to nature. It was precisely the kind of rejuvenating retreat that lingers in memory long after departure.

Lovely, upgraded hotel set just enough off the beach for peace and tranquility from the crowds. The things that would move my overall review from 4 to 5 stars would be less expensive daily fees to use the athletic club next door (it’s $45 per person per day even for a short workout or hot tub access) and attention to delivery truck and landscaping in the overnight and early morning hours, which woke us all. We had one minor issue with our shower drain, which was immediately remedied when we mentioned it to the front desk staff. I would absolutely stay here again.

This was our 2nd stay at the Avila Village Inn. It is a hidden gem adjacent the Bob Jones Nature Preserve. When you walk in to register, you are met with a winding staircase, large stone fireplace and comfy sofas. There is also 24hr coffee and tea available for guests. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And check-in was smooth. We booked a room in the main building which is older than the new buildings. I believe the new buildings are the trail view, forest view rooms and suites.(verify with hotel) Our room was the king Craftsman room with jetted tub. It was pretty spacious with a fireplace, wet bar, small cabinet refrigerator, table and 2 large wooden chairs. We couls still move around. The bed was comfy with clean linens and nice pillows. The closet had an iron and iron board, suitcase rack and complimentary robes for your use while at hotel. Bathroom was large and spacious with double sinks and vanity makeup center with stool. It was clean. We had the jetted tub with a shower option. The tub work great and water pressure was good and hot. The only reason I gave 4 stars for condition is minor but felt I should state it, is the bathroom caulk and some other minor areas could use renewing. That gave the bathroom a minor aged look. If you want a secluded feeling, be close to nature and quite this is the place. The hotel has bikes for use in nature preserve. There is a small cafe that offers food and barista coffees. This is now our go to hotel when in Avila.
