We received a lovely warm welcome from Sharon and Elizabeth, and were immediately treated to a glass of their 2016 Rosé, with cheeseboard made up of New Zealand cheeses, which complimented the wine beautifully. We were very interested to hear the story of the lodge and its vineyard, and just before dinner we took part in an exclusive wine tasting experience led by Sharon, who used her knowledge and expertise to make this most entertaining and informative. Our dinner of succulent lamb followed by a lovely baked apple dessert was wonderfully cooked by Vanessa. We enjoyed a very relaxing evening in the company of our hosts, and on retiring to our suite, found it to be most luxurious and containing every facility and amenity one could wish for. Breakfast was served by Elizabeth, and we enjoyed guacamole together with poached eggs and the most delicious local bacon, together with honey and preserves. We went for a stroll around the vineyard and decided that it would be impossible to leave without ordering a selection of their fine wines so that we may enjoy them at home We hope to return one day.

Beautiful location with very welcoming luxury comfort. Lovely hostess Sharon made us feel right at home and cooked a superb dinner for us on our first night and her breakfasts were also very tasty with more choice on offer then we could ever eat!

What a fabulous place and such a warm welcome. We were greeted with chilled wine and nibbles, before being shown to our room which was spacious and had wonderful views both from the bed and the bath! Make sure you stay in for dinner - interesting dishes paired with excellent wine. Breakfast was also delicious.

What a spectacular property takatu lodge sits on! My husband really enjoyed their red wines and we highly recommend staying in for a home cooked 3 course meal. The accommodation was lovely, spotless and spacious with a well stocked mini bar (most drinks were complementary bar the wine). Sharon our hostess really made our trip so special and she made sure we were well fed with my dietary requirements met (given I was pregnant). We were so spoilt! You will be disconnecting to an extent while you stay here as there is no tv or phones in the room but the wifi was very fast! Highly recommend.

Stunning location, superb staff, excellent service, friendly and luxurious with loads of space. Room and bathroom excellentl. Strongly recommend you take your evening meal here and try their wines from the Vineyard. I need to speak to our travel agent as to why we only got one night here. A week would have been even better. Superb.

We stayed one night and the place is well situated and very luxurious which as travellers touring the country we couldnt really take advantage . Fabulous views across the ocean and set in the middle of a winery. The rooms and en suite were immaculate but the beds were not as comfortable as others we have stayed in. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine on arrival and just felt that we were expected to buy some.... needless to say we did not as we can't take it home!

Spectacular lodge. Aesthetically pleasing. Attentive staff beyond my expectations. Fresh, healthy food. Rejuvenating. Stayed four nights and will be back and book out the whole place! Really great location close to Matakana center (check out the farmer's market). No complaints, and will be back for the wine and hospitality

We stayed here for one night to break our drive from Kauri Cliffs to Huka Lodge. We wish we'd booked for two nights. What an absolute gem of a place. We were made to feel so welcome from the minute we arrived. We had a lovely cheese and cold meat platter for lunch accompanied by some lovely wine. The views and the property itself are stunning. We had planned to eat out but, we loved the place so much, we stayed in for dinner. We were not disappointed. Breakfast the next day was a real treat as well. What a great place - loved it!

We stayed at Takatu Lodge for 2 nights as a good halfway house between Kauri Cliffs and Huka Lodge. Sharon was a fantastic host, the breakfasts were great and she cooks an amazing dinner. Unfortunately we didn't realise that dinner was available until the 2nd night as it doesn't seem to advertise this on the website. There aren't really many places to eat around Matakana that look that inviting so if you are staying at this liodge make sure you book for dinner too.

What a great way to end our trip in NZ by staying at Takatu for 3 nights. After a long drive up, Sharon & team were very welcoming with wine & cheese ready at our arrival to immediately unwind. The property itself is very lovely and quiet so great for those looking to relax and enjoy the surrounding vineyard and everything the area has to offer. The room was very comfortable with everything you need and big soaking tub facing the vineyard. We loved the shared meal Sharon made for us & the other guests at the lodge. Highly recommend dining on the property for at least one time as it was nice to be able to kick back and enjoy the scenery and the company (with wine glass in hand) without having to leave. Overall a gem of a place in this region and wonderful base to explore (close to town, beaches and restaurants). Only wish we could stay longer!
