Takatu Lodge and Vineyard

We opted to stay at the Takatu Lodge while in transit from the Bay of Islands to Rotorua, rather than staying a night at the Sofitel in Auckland. The Takatu Lodge is in the middle of a vineyard, on the top of a hill that has a view of the Pacific Ocean and two barrier islands in the distance. The living/dining room has glass walls on three sides with large glass door panels that allow it to be opened to the coastal breezes. The hosts greeted us with a glass of wine and offered to make us dinner that evening. Fortunately we accepted their offer, because what followed was the best meal of our five week vacation in New Zealand. Just down the road towards Matakana is the Morris and James pottery factory. There are also some lovely beaches in the area. We give this accommodation my highest recommendation.

We stayed at Takatu Lodge for 3 nights. Sharon welcomed us and we had a good chat. We saw Sharon later who was also lovely. The room was lovely. Well appointed with chocolates and fruit in the room. A complimentary mini bar not including the wine which I thought was a bit strange if your trying to promote it. Breakfast was very nice with a good choice of fruit and cereals. Sharon uses fresh herbs and makes her own mueslis including a Gluten Free one. Above all the cleanliness was second to none. This is the first place apart from a cruise where your bed was turned back and room lit for when you got back at night. Each room had its own private balcony which didn't overlook anyone else. Some had a sea view some mountain view. This property has been well designed.

the fifth star is for the ambience.. the decor was nice but it didn't all fit together. the rooms were large, the common areas awesome. the staff was great.. I mean really great.. especially Sharon who was the Chef and the manager. she was warm and so accommodating.. we checked in and were ushered to a large common room with sweeping views of the vineyards and the area.. we were given wine and cheese.. it was over an hour before we even discussed checking in.. I wasn't feeling great and I told her so.. she took out vegetables and chicken and she made me fresh homemade chicken soup.. dinner was amazing. the wine was great. .. what a nice resort.. the town was cute.. there were beaches nearby. it was 45 minutes from Auckland ... I felt it was a home run

Unfortunately we only had one night at Takatu Lodge but it is a night we will always remember. Our room was absolutely delightful - nothing had been overlooked. It was simply the best - we were greeted by Elizabeth and Sharon who made us feel extremely welcome - the glass of Rosé also was a lovely touch! Sharon cooked us a sumptuous meal which was an absolutely perfect way for us to end our long day of travel. We cannot recommend Takatu Lodge highly enough - it’s an absolute must on everyone’s itinerary, particularly for those looking for something a little bit special and totally memorable for all the right reasons.

This was a real gem of a find! Sharon and Elizabeth really looked after us. Suite was a very high standard and extremely clean, nice little attention to detail items, views wonderful. Dinner first night was very good and in a really calming relaxed setting, lit candles created the atmosphere. Breakfast was perfect, sat outside lovey views of the sea in the distance. Wines were all lovely, tried the Merlot/Malbec, the Pinot Gris and the Rose, all excellent. Service first class, well done.

We received a lovely warm welcome from Sharon and Elizabeth, and were immediately treated to a glass of their 2016 Rosé, with cheeseboard made up of New Zealand cheeses, which complimented the wine beautifully. We were very interested to hear the story of the lodge and its vineyard, and just before dinner we took part in an exclusive wine tasting experience led by Sharon, who used her knowledge and expertise to make this most entertaining and informative. Our dinner of succulent lamb followed by a lovely baked apple dessert was wonderfully cooked by Vanessa. We enjoyed a very relaxing evening in the company of our hosts, and on retiring to our suite, found it to be most luxurious and containing every facility and amenity one could wish for. Breakfast was served by Elizabeth, and we enjoyed guacamole together with poached eggs and the most delicious local bacon, together with honey and preserves. We went for a stroll around the vineyard and decided that it would be impossible to leave without ordering a selection of their fine wines so that we may enjoy them at home We hope to return one day.

Beautiful location with very welcoming luxury comfort. Lovely hostess Sharon made us feel right at home and cooked a superb dinner for us on our first night and her breakfasts were also very tasty with more choice on offer then we could ever eat!

What a fabulous place and such a warm welcome. We were greeted with chilled wine and nibbles, before being shown to our room which was spacious and had wonderful views both from the bed and the bath! Make sure you stay in for dinner - interesting dishes paired with excellent wine. Breakfast was also delicious.

What a spectacular property takatu lodge sits on! My husband really enjoyed their red wines and we highly recommend staying in for a home cooked 3 course meal. The accommodation was lovely, spotless and spacious with a well stocked mini bar (most drinks were complementary bar the wine). Sharon our hostess really made our trip so special and she made sure we were well fed with my dietary requirements met (given I was pregnant). We were so spoilt! You will be disconnecting to an extent while you stay here as there is no tv or phones in the room but the wifi was very fast! Highly recommend.

Stunning location, superb staff, excellent service, friendly and luxurious with loads of space. Room and bathroom excellentl. Strongly recommend you take your evening meal here and try their wines from the Vineyard. I need to speak to our travel agent as to why we only got one night here. A week would have been even better. Superb.
