I was greeted by friendly staff upon arrival. They were informative, kind, and made me feel welcome. The rooms were clean and quiet. Comfortable beds and clean bathrooms. There is free WiFi in the travel shop from 9-6 everyday which is a cool place to hangout and meet people. The travel agents there helped me plan my entire trip around NZ and Fiji. They were really helpful. The kitchen was clean and there is a rooftop deck with a BBQ. You can sit outside and it overlooks the city and view to Rangitoto island and the water. I would highly recommend this hostel to everyone!
The cheapest hostel I’ve been to in all of New Zealand (18 nzd/night) but also arguably the hostel with the worst beds. The mattress is so thin you can feel the wooden boards underneath pressing against your back. The buyable WiFi that Nomads/Base (same parent company) offer has been good throughout New Zealand but it seems to tank here in Auckland - sometimes it just straight up doesn’t work, or is really slow at best. I’m the end though, it’s a hostel and you don’t expect luxury, you get what you pay for and that’s good enough.
rooms where alright bit overpriced for what you get and had to keep checking ut every 3/4 days to check back in. Jade the woman at the desk kept taking everyones beers allday everyday as apparently your not allowed to drink there. kitchen and rooftop is cool but your food can eaily get chucked away. decent place people staying tehre were sound not sure about the staff and all their rules
After 28 hours of flight the last thing we needed is to find an untidy not prepared room on the 6th floor. People on the desk reacted and gave us another on the 5th floor. We'll never forget the noise, the smoke, the loud music and ambiance till 02:00 coming from the terrace of the Fort Street Union social house & kitchen 3 levels below, noise coming even with closed windows (making the room suffocating!).
It is not a good place. Rooms are too dirty. Stuff was every where, even over clean beds. Have to use Common areas to charge devices because there was only 4 charging plugs for over 10 guests. No security as locked doors were held open using a lid from a rubbish bin. Free WiFi is actually at a shop next door and you can only use it in business hours. Half of the toilets on floor 3 had no toilet paper and all the toilets I tried had no soap. The biggest feature of this place is the "roof top spa" which I found was closed due to maintenance. After looking at other reviews, the spa seems to have been closed for months. Why is there advertisements advertising a spa is available when it is not!
This hostel is close to everything in Auckland. There are mixed doorm, girls/boys doorm, private room and common areas. The kitchen, along with roof top, is at the top floor. The kitchen area is very small, so best recommendation is to eat really early or really late or out. During "rush hour" this area is just too small. Bathrooms on each floor and laundry (4 washers and dryers respectively) on 2nd floor.
The girl at the reception was really impolite to me and blamed me for a mistake made by her collegue. The beds where uncomfortable and noisy. Also, as the walls were thin, you could hear everything. On the other hand, the location was very good.
It is a great option for backpackers visiting Auckland. It is clean and beds are comfortable. But the best of it it’s that it is right in the city center so walking distance to everywhere! At an afordable price!
We paid 120 dollars for one (very very basic) double room for one night, which for a start is an absolute joke. The even bigger joke was that there's no free Wi-Fi! Even after that huge expense! Every single hostel I've stayed in gives you at least some free Wi-Fi. YHA gives you 2GB a day and has better rooms. Go there instead!
Visited nomads for a night in february 2018. The room was crowded (fair enough for a city centre hostel) and hot, and the luggage storage bins underneath the bins did not work at all. Free Wi-Fi was advertised, but that was only available in the next door nomads store, wifi in the rooms was 4 dollars a night and didn't work in my bunk. The kitchen was horrifically crowded, and although there was a nice balcony with a view from the top, it in no way made up for the rest of the stay.
