The beds are clean but there is a strange smell on all of the corridors. The staff is nice and friendly, the kitchen is dirty and too crowded. The room was stuffy and dirty. The bathroom is not that clean as well.
Dear nomads During my recent travels to Auckland to see the babe Harry Styles me and my mates were appalled by the uncomfortable conditions of your hostel. I am embarrassed for New Zealand. Travellers from around the world look forward to staying in 100% Pure New Zealand and end up in 100% Saudi Arabia. First off , are 4 fives year olds staying in your hostel? Nah bro , but sure was perfect size for them. Were we gonna put our luggage out the window ? Oh wait what window. I was busting for a pee but couldn’t reach the bathroom without tripping over and face planting COZ THERE WAS NO FLOOR SPACE. When I finally climbed over what seemed to be Mount Everest of bags , I couldn’t even pee in peace, let alone release my days worth of McDonald’s. NO LOCK , NO THANK Q. Couldn’t relax , the tension was too high , my mates would hear the stream, the splash , the drop. The cardboard sheets were a delight , so too was the pillow. Actually Pillow? More like pillow case filled with thin air. Every time I tried to re adjust my head on that flat thing , my mate was treated to a lovely SQUEEEEEEEEAK of the bed. Music to her ears I bet. ( CRC , get it from the Ware Whare MATE ) I dreamt of a tropical beach. Sand , salt , sea and flocks of seagulls. It was vivid , so much so it felt like a reality. What I believed was the gentle coo of a seagull actually became a squak from our mate Gerry the pigeon. All the while I was swimming in an ocean of sweat , a pool of salt , a waterfall cascaded off my brow. That room was 100 degrees ( no joke) I could have cooked a mean barbie in there with some sausages but instead we were becoming cooked sausages. OVERCOOKED SAUSAGES. You know the ones that become black on the outside and shrivel up? Yeah that was us. I recommend that you install a powerful air condition unit otherwise all these travellers may aswell rock on to a tropical island. They would still get the heat , but at least they would have more than 3 inches to move and maybe some air flow because I SWEAR we were on the verge of Co2 poisoning. The elevators is slower than my grandma walking up the stairs and the 10.30-11.30 “ water turned off for maintainance” is a lie. You deceived me. You deceived us all. My sweat was attracting the fly’s from Australia . I couldn’t bare it no more. I risked it for the chocolate biscuit and climbed over mount everast AGAIN to find that the water was running . Running as fast as Usain bolt . You lied. I bet your nose is the size of Pinocchio’s. We planned for a lit night out to see our boy harry , but nah . No alcohol ? NO THANK Q. What were we meant to do ? Drink out side with the homeless by the liquor store ? Pay $50 huck at the night club which ruined my sleep? I think NOT. All I can say is that staying here was not worth the $$$. Nomads more like no mate . CYA
Stayed twice here and the mattresses are so uncomfortable. It’s not the cleanest hostel and the kitchen is way too small for the amount of people. Good nightly options for socializing but Probably would not stay again.
Booked this just to have a bed to spend the night, with no other expectations. Despite the low expectations, the place managed to disappoint a little: it was a hot night, requiring to leave the windows open and there was a bar with live music next to our window, that stopped activities around 4am, so not much of a sleep either.
Unfortunately our experience at this hostel was poor from the beginning. The check-in process was tedious with us being told to download an app and make a profile for them to scan, we didn't receive any prior warning about this! I can just imagine after a long journey to Auckland, downloading an app (on the slow wifi) is the last thing you want to do! Secondly, the wifi signs are very misleading, they say "FREE DAILY WIFI next door". Most hostels these days have free wifi so Nomads really needs to catch up on this trend. The staff are also only allowed to recommend their "sister bar" when we asked about good places to go for a drink. This is disappointing as a traveller because you want to be given genuine recommendation in a new city rather than told to go to their overpriced, tourist bar. The rooms and bathrooms were fine, plenty of showers so we never had to wait. Staff were a bit annoying, they just walked into our room and started chatting to us when we didn't want to. The spa pool wasn't working but the rooftop is lovely.
Stayed here for two nights cost me $228. Bed had bed bugs. My friend woke up with bites on his body👎🏼 base of bed very squeaky when moving around. A decent place to stay if you want to be near shops easy to walk around places. Private room I was in was quite small and tight, toilet and shower quite close maybe arm reach with a very small sink. The floor I stayed on didn’t have a pleasant smell. Smelt like sweat and damp. Didn’t get room service eg bed sheets not changed unlike other rooms. Would only recommend this place if you would like to be close to shops.
The showers are clean, great break room and kitchen too! Perfect location as it's right in the center of downtown and near the docks so you can go shopping, exploring, site-seeing and eat at great places! Love the fact that they hold bags for you so you can go explore the city.
I had a great time staying at Nomads Auckland, NZ. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. There was a good vibe there, and guests seemed very relaxed and happy to be staying there. I don't usually stay at backpackers, preferring hotels, but I would definitely stay here again. In fact, I'm missing it already!!
Stayed one night in a ensuite room. Perfectly adequate. Really comfortable bed. Bit noisy at times but it’s a backpackers. I’d stay anytime . Didn’t use the facilities but would if I’d stayed longer. Easy access to shops, transport and Spark arena
Firstly, this place uses some app called Tipi to book in with no alternative. You have to download it and are forced to supply this company with all your passport details etc whether you want to or not! This was to be my last hostel i stayed in before leaving NZ and had never used this system before and judging by the huge queues it caused on arrival not many others had either. Paid a little extra to have a 6 bed dorm rather than the 12 only to arrive and have all my new roommates tell me how screwed we are. The room was situated directly above the bar next door with all of their considerable noise and music pumped into the room until the early hours of the morning. Perhaps not the fault of the hostel you could argue but charging $35 for a night where there is not even a remote chance of you getting some sleep is crazy! Furthermore, arguably not the fault of the hostel but the next morning there were toilet cisterns kicked over and sick on the floor. Conclusion: Stay here if you're wanting to party all night in Auckland. The location is close to all the bars etc and if you stay out until all the bars close then perhaps you will be back when it is quiet and can sleep. Do NOT stay here if you're planning on doing anything less than staying out all night as it is expensive and near impossible to sleep. Ps staff were nice enough though I'm check-in etc which is why it is not 1 star
