This accommodation met and exceeded my expectations. It took a while to check in due to the fact i turned up just as a bus of backpackers had just arrived. Otherwise check-in was fast efficient and informative. The room was clean and had a comfortable bed. I paid extra for my own facilities which where equally as clean. The room even had a fan and a good tv. What more would you want for the price.
Smelly run down hostel! Crammed rooms! Imagine the hostel itself makes good profit cramming each space with beds! But it lacks in size with rest amenities! Kitchen is tiny, lounge is tiny, roof top area is tiny, reception is tiny! Staff r rude (especially one girl in particular) unwilling help unless ur checking in or out! One worst hostels in NZ
The bed was the whole room, could barely fit our suitcases in the room. We could literally get from the bed to sitting on the toilet, without stepping onto the ground. The location is a convenient city stay, but happens to be next to an open roof bar which played loud music all night and could not be blocked out. "Free wifi" is actually located next door to the hostel, and only available at certain times. Most channels don't work on the television either.
It’s a nice hostel, bathrooms are mixed genders and not the most clean I’ve seen but still fine. The location is great really central and kitchen area is also good ! Nice staff at the time I was there!
0/5 stars would be more accurate. We stayed for 1 night before starting the Stray bus and it was the worst place we’ve stayed in 5 months travelling. The whole place smells like feet, no free WiFi, the rooms aren’t clean, there is NO ventilation in the rooms except for a window which opens 10cm which means the room temperature is about 35 degrees all the time. We had to have the window open but were above the bar which blasted out music until 3am. They offer you free earplugs but if you are above the bar, they are pointless. $42 for an absolute dump.
Window in room was jammed halfway so couldnt open it when I was hot & it didnt help that there was a bar down below which didnt stop the loud music till 3am. I did inform reception twice but nothing was done. The showers were disgusting and the bins in the toilet cubicles stank. My key card didnt always work. Reception were helpful as best as they could be. The hand dryers in the bathroom didnt always work, however Im glad they were there, same with liquid soap. The kitchen could do with a separate handwash basin.
Centrally located in the CBD this is decent value relatively speaking in the packed but not exactly high quality hostel market in the CBD. It's spread out over 7 floors with 1 rather slow lift. You probably have to get used to using the stairs a lot. The kitchen is on top floor. Half the cookers don't work including 2 beside the microwave which didn't work when I stayed here about 3 years ago, come on guys fix it! Even though there is a lot of space to store food as the hostel is so large it's still usually filled up. it can be quite busy from 6-9pm as well. The bathroom area is very nice with a really good shower area, there is about 20 showers per floor so you are never waiting to use them which is a welcome contrast to Base. There is also a laundry area on 2nd floor on 1st floor a common area with place for laptops and a tv. You have to pay $12 for wi-fi for the week or $4 for the day but you can go next door to travel shop and get free wi-fi from 9am-7pm. It's an alcohol free zone so even though it's quite large with a ton of backpackers the atmosphere could be better. For what you pay versus other hostels in Auckland it is fine for a few days in Auckland.
My stay started with a 20min queue for check in. The queue was out the door so some people had to wait longer and it was hot so didn't make for pleasant waiting. You can check in faster if you have their app but if you don't or are unable to then tough luck. The room was alright it is s hostel so nothing to write home about although I have stayed in cleaner better looked after hostels. I had a private double room. It came with two towels and soap which I didn't expect. The tv didn't work because the plug was in the ceiling and had been turned off me being 5ft5 couldn't turn it on. Staff came to help straight away. I had a fan in the room which was welcomed company. All in all would I say it was worth £60pernight, not sure but Auckland is an expensive city so you don't have many nice options if your budget doesn't stress to £150 +. It is in a good location, walking distance from most places in Auckland CBD.
First two nights stayed in room 102 with 6 beds - perfectly spaced and pleasant room Came back after two days away to Bay of Islands - again well spaced accomodation two rooms one with 6 beds and one with 4 - no complaints Arrive back at Nomads only to be put in a 10 bed dorm with next to no room to swing a cat let alone store my luggage - no electrical supply, no ventilation as room is stuffy. Beds just crammed in to the space and no thought given to people's privacy and safety - my only wish is that my booking had specified what type of dorm I would be staying in. Worst accomodation I've experienced in two months travelling across Australia & New Zealand - on the plus side great location!!!
Worst hostel and far away from being cheap. I stayed at this hostel for weeks and the way they treat long termers is: They dont really care about their guests. Since I moved into this hostel I got moved around 4 times now because they needed my room. The carpets are filthy and sticky and the rooms disgusting. I stayed in a ten bed dorm whch was was tiny and there was absolutely no room so people's stuff was everywhere. The cleaners do the bare minimum which is not their fault as they get no time to do the job properly. Also, because there are no rooms for long termers, you get woke up every morning between six and seven because people check out every day. People go out and get drunk all the time and because most of them are only there for the weekend they don't care about other people that have to work the next day or just want to sleep. If you do manage to sleep don't expect your sleep to be well. The mattresses are bad, not even real mattresses and the beds are very low. I also stayed in one room that literally has 2 power points for 10 travelers. The only reason I stayed there for longer is because I made some friends there but as I mentioned in the title: in more than 2 years of traveling various countries, this is by far the worst hostel and no, it's not cheap. 230 Dollars a week for a fithly tiny room, shared with 9 other people is definitely not cheap. My advice is: If you are planning to stay in Auckland for more than 2 nights, find a different hostel.
