Been here many times before. I think this will be the last. Run down and dirty bathrooms. Very very noisy on 5th floor. No staff available for check out at 5:15am.... they were sleeping in the back. Had to yell for help several times (literally yelling)

Travelled up to Auckland for a concert and apon arrival we were greeted by the lovely staff at check in...but that was all. We got to our room and it wasn’t what I thought I’d paid for. The bathroom was dirty and toilet didn’t even flush properly. The bed is right next to the vent and you can hear everything being said from the room below very clearly, I didn’t really need my daughter hearing all about someone’s bad date. Although very central to queen street and everything within walking distance we most definitely couldn’t wait to get out of there after our two nights and checked out half and hour early after sleeping in. Will not be back!

Worst hostel I have ever stayed in. Dirty, lack of ventilation, poor showers ect. Could not open the window. Key card kept deactivating. No plug sockets near bunk. Authogh the staff were nice. Avoid !!!

Travelled to Auckland for the Ed Sheeran concert with friends for 2 nights stay.. safe to say we were all very disappointed with this accommodation. Dorms appeared clean upon walking into the room but sheets were stained, towels not much better and previous guests toiletries were left in the room under the bed. We arrived around 6pm and noticed the shared bathroom was quite dirty but thought it was because of a busy day.. but next day straight after the cleaners left the bathroom it appears to be a pathetic clean with blood, god knows what else still all over the cubicle walls. Mould on the ceilings of the showers was prominent and we all had to take turns with using pair of jandals whilst showering because everything felt so gross. We thought we were in a female only section on level 7 but website didn't state that it was only a handful of rooms at one end of the corridor that was female only.. felt like it defeated the purpose. We were in the room during the afternoon when someone suddenly came in without even knocking - appeared to be the supervisor of the cleaning department, she just looked at the over flowing bin and muttered 'oh didn't the staff empty that..' our reply was no, then she just walked out and didn't come back. On the upside the service at check in was good, the bar on the 6th floor was great - we didn't hold out much hope when going to check it out but was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere and service. The location is also great.. BUT would not go back next time nor recommend unless the hygiene standard was seriously looked at and improved.

You do of course get what you pay for, but staying at a backpackers, you don’t expect 5star. Excellent location, and getting a great discount at the nearby car park is a huge plus if you have a car. Staff were good but bathrooms were often grubby and beds were pretty uncomfortable. We had a private twin room which was a good size and even had a nice view

The room was dirty, with hairs from the previous people in the bed, on the pilllow, in the sink and on the floor. The toilet seat was dirty and stained yellow as well as the sheets. Elevator did not work. The service was good and the place cheep but at the expense of adequate higene.

I've been to the Base 3 times while traveling through New Zealand and I can recommend to stay there if you need a cheap and central place to stay. The shared areas on the 3rd floor could be cleaned more often, but in my experience the bed and bathrooms are cleaned more than once daily. The kitchen is okay to use now and then, but better make sure to clean the dishes before using. The free WiFi works great from 7am-7pm. The service is very good, staff is mostly friendly and helpful. The elevators are not always working well, and the key cards are really not good for anything cause most of the time they just don't work. But you can get a new one anytime if you just ask at the reception. Only the rooms without windows are a little to small and cold because of the air-conditioning, but the other rooms(also the shared dorm) was big enough and had big windows. The Habana Joes right next to it is cheap to have drinks with friends, but if you don't like young and drunk people better stay away, especially in the weekend.

It is decently cheap but the rooms are incredibly small and crammed. Additionally, the "free" wifi is only available in one section of the entire building only from 7am-7pm. If u want wifi in your room or outside of those hours you must pay. Also the kitchen is poorly kept and the fridge was full of old rotting food. It's in a great location but if you have a car it is incredibly expensive to park it in a lot overnight. However ask at the desk and they might help u find somewhere. The "free" breakfast is exactly what you would expect it to be; toast and coffee.

stayed here. the mattress on 1st nite was so badvi complained as being ripped. they replaced the mattress after checking it out. other than that the stay was good. reception was helpful when I needed to catch a bus to a part of Auckland I had never been too

Compared with other hotel/hostel accommodations, quite convenient option for room, breakfast and last day locker. Very nice, competent and kind staff. Well located, the global experience in Base Auckland has been positive.
