Construction renovation in full force at this hotel! Beware! Exit doors are wide open. Once we got to our rooms, our son's room had a mystery powder coming from an outlet that piled six inches high! We called for the manager who we were told was actually not in the hotel at the time. The hotel desk person came to our room and was concerned. She brought a vacuum cleaner but half way into vacuuming the powder, the vacuum cleaner broke. We finally decided to move our son to our room and we moved into the powder room. Apparently the contractors were working on the floor above and the residue from bathroom refitting got caught in the wall space falling into the electrical outlets. This hotel should not be open during renovations. Additionally, we heard construction drilling or sanding noise when we arrived at 530pm.
Stayed 3 nights on business trip. There were 8 of us. Rooms not ready at 5:00. No elevator in service on our side. They expected a disabled person in our party to take her bags down 2 flights of stairs until we insisted that they find someone to help her. Half of us had to move to accommodate their construction. No notice. Small bistro where the manager told us not to eat as she was training staff. Noisy construction in the afternoon did not allow us to work in room.
Showed up to a crazy scene of renovations. No water until 5pm. When I ran water it came out super brown and was told to run for ten minutes. It took hours until I could use the water...and then everything was just a mess from all the dirt. The comforter on the bed had two large brown stains (no one seemed too concerned) and the shower drain was clogged. The room must be on the soon to be reno list because everything just looked warn. Not up to normal Marriot quality...staff was nice enough but there was no one checking up that things were done right. Will never stay again and for the price, to be honest, the experience was pathetic. I have pictures of all I described but you don't want to see them. Makes you never want to stay in a hotel again.
I’m afraid we found this Courtyard a very big disappointment. It was clear from the moment we arrived that this property was very poorly built and has been very poorly maintained. The parking lot includes a dilapidated chain link fence, landscape stones strewn around, very narrow parking spots, and dead plants in the planters and beds. When we entered, we were greeted by dark hallways with low, stained ceilings. The room wasn’t much better. There was stained carpet, pink mildew on the tub caulk, grimy light switches, and dust hanging from the popcorn ceiling. The furniture was in poor condition, and the desk was sagging. To be fair, the positive things about the hotel were the friendly staff and the comfortable bed. It was clear to me the hotel was not originally a Marriott property. The staff told me it was a Days Inn until 1992. I’m honestly surprised they haven’t started over from scratch. They say the hotel is under renovation. Renovations can only do so much. It seems a scandal to me to advertise “Courtyard by Marriott” rooms at rather high prices and not deliver on the usual “Courtyard” standard. I’m appalled that Marriott is comfortable having their name on this hotel. It’s not anywhere near what we’re accustomed to from Marriott. We are Gold Elite members and stay at a lot of Marriott properties across many price points.
Needs an upgrade which they appear to be doing but taking a while... While there, went to a function at Hotel Indigo - If priced similarly, go there. Hotel was clean and very convenient to downtown and the campus. Will have to reduce pricing to stay competitive.
The hotel is going through some much needed renovations. That being said, I am going to focus on the excellent customer service I received while staying here. I was here for 10 nights between two different weeks for training. I ate breakfast every morning at the Bistro inside the hotel. Tyler, Shareka, maybe Julie (? she cooked for us in the mornings) did a wonderful job of taking care of us while we were there. They were extremely friendly and helpful. Honestly, they are what made my stay here not so crummy! Thanks for your excellent service! Hopefully when this hotel gets their renovations done it will be an awesome place to stay! They definitely have the excellent customer service!!
Shareka at the Bistro is a very sweet lady. Her customer service is excellent. She fixed me a morning smoothie just like i like it everymorning. She worked late until 10pm and was right back at work at 8am. I am very well pleased with her service.
Visited for the first time this past weekend and was extremely pleased. Helpful, friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable bed, and great location! What more can you ask for? Will definitely be visiting again as my trips to Athens will become more frequent. They definitely ensured I will be booking here again!
Brought my son up for some music lessons with the music department as he is considering UGA next fall. We always stay Marriott when we can and the location of this hotel is perfect for walking downtown and to the campus. Being a Marriott it is always clean and well maintained and this one held true. But I would like to give a shout out to Shareka in the Starbucks Bistro of the hotel. I was there for a video conference early and stayed until my son woke up. She was very friendly and checked on me a number of times for more Coffey. Even brought me a free donut! She was great and made me feel welcome! Great job! I hope we will be back often if my son chooses UGA next fall!
Wonderful staff. The hotel itself is not quite up to Marriott standards. We had a gift card, so decided to try this hotel. We were somewhat troubled because even with the gift card we would still be spending about what we typically spend when visiting our college student in Athens and staying at a lesser priced hotel. But we went with the Courtyard. We've been just as happy/comfortable in other lesser priced area hotels.
