This hotel should be a 4 star hotel, but the termite residue droppings on my bed pillow in Room 9 and on the bathroom floor spoiled its attraction. When this was pointed out to the front desk staff, they responded 'oh, that's termites' and had the maid staff come in and shake out the pillows and sheets. They said they were full and so couldn't move us to another room, but I don't know why they couldn't have hung something from the ceiling to catch the droppings, or otherwise deal with the issue. The amount of termite activity was so great that it could be readily seen again after only an hour. It certainly ruined which would have otherwise been a nice stay. The bathroom and shower are well appointed and nice. The room looks nice. The breakfast in the courtyard is good. There is a fair amount of street noise. In summary, staff's nonchalant and apathetic attitude towards a significant problem ruined what could have been a very pleasant stay.
A lovely small hotel just off the park de central, doesn't do dinner but it is close to lots of restaurants and if your really tired you can get take aways ( I personally prefer to eat out ). In the evening they fold down your beds and you get a chocolate on your pillow!😺 Your stay comes with 2 breakfasts and my favourite part is that there is lots of soft blankets and sofas, so if your cold you can get comfy!😸 This is a great stay if your on holiday, as we are traveling, we should be roughing it but...😼 Also som thing that makes it a great stay is that it has a private parking with security, which is good if you have a car because you could be robbed, not saying you will but it's better safe than sorry 😹 I recommend this hotel if your looking for somewhere quaint and quiet where if you step outside there is loads of atmosphere! I give this little hotel a double thumbs up 👍🏼👍🏼 😺😺
Quite charming small room. Updated bathroom with good sized shower. Beautiful woodwork. Courtyard is quiet and meticulously maintained. Take the winding stairs to the rooftop terrace for views of the city and volcanoes. Breakfast was included and included yogurt with fresh fruit and granola to the typical Guatemalan breakfast of eggs, plantains, beans, cheese and toast. 1 block to city center with shops and numerous dining options. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Staff speaks english. Bottle water is gratis.
Good service, nice courtyard, comfortable beds, helpful staff, English spoken. Great location 2 minutes walk to the central plaza and next door to a car rental office. We were 5 people, stayed 5 nights.
With its unassuming front, this beautiful little hotel is a bit difficult to find, but it is well worth the search. The Hotel La Catedral is in the center of Antigua, located just a half block away from the main square. At US$150 for 3 of us, it was a bit pricey in a city where you can find a pleasant enough hotel for $50, we found this place to be well worth the extra cost. The fellow (Marcos) at the front desk was very friendly and attentive, and when we asked to be moved from the room we had originally been assigned (#9) because it was next to the bar and the door to the parking lot One recommendation for folks traveling from points south, is to avoid Houston International Airport (IAH) if possible. Over the past 30 years I have traveled overseas well over 100 times, therefore having that many experiences as a U.S. citizen reentering the country. The last 2 experiences I had at IAH, including the one returning from Guatemala this past week, have been beyond horrible. A few months ago, as I went through the security check point located at the International Arrival, I caught 2 TSA agents trying to steal my money from my wallet.
We would recommend staying here for many reasons: great location, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. We had an early start one morning for volcano trip and missed breakfast. While we were waiting outside for our shuttle we were offered a cup of coffee from the receptionist. This was a really nice gesture. Furthermore, our shuttle was late arriving and reception called the company for us to see where they were. Again, a nice touch which we will remember. We would definitely stay here again if in Antigua.
This is a lovely and charming hotel. It's immaculate, too! It's extremely convenient and close to sites. The staff was great and helpfu, included breakfast was delicious. I will definitely stay here in the future.
We loved this hotel! We stayed in the Hotel la Catedral back in mid- April 2017 for four nights. The room was beautiful & clean, and the bed was great making for a fantastic night's sleep. The staff was very friendly and helpful from check in to check out. Our waiter for the free breakfast was outstanding. I'm a picky eater and the food was prepared as I wished. Plus it was amazing! The location is near the main square and the front desk manager gave us great advice on where to eat. He was also very helpful booking a tour for us. Now for the drive to the airport. We verified with the front desk the charge for the driver before we left and were told 300Q, which is about the $40 per couple we were originally quoted. We had a pleasant drive to the airport in a clean, comfortable vehicle with A/C. Once we got to the airport, the driver insisted we pay him 400Q. He would not let us have our luggage for the 300Q so my husband had to hunt around the airport for an ATM so we could get him his extra 100Q and our luggage. The Guatemala City airport is not a place you want to be wandering around looking for an ATM. Nor were we happy that I was left alone with the driver while my husband looked for the ATM. There is a ton of theft @ this airport so you really have to watch your things. Anyway, after about 20 min my husband came back with the 100Q, paid the driver, and we were on our way. We had a great time despite the shady driver to the airport and we were grateful we got to where we needed to go safely. Would I stay at Hotel la Catedral again? Yes, I would and I would recommend them. However, I would probably arrange for different transportation back to the airport.
Great location, near the main square with plenty of good restaurants within walking distance. The staff is excellent, very friendly and extremely helpful!, the breakfast is delicious with plenty of variety.
What a great place! The staff was all very friendly and helpful from checkin through checkout. We had a complimentary drink on the rooftop terrace which had amazing views of the city and volcanoes. The location is superb and only one block from the central square. The rooms were very nice with soft comfortable beds. Very quiet inside the room and dark so I had a good night of sleep. Bathrooms are large and spacious. Breakfast was included and very good. This place is a true gem and we will definitely stay here again.
