Wow wow wow!!!! We were so impressed by our hosts Tony and Anne. They made us feel very welcome and relaxed. Pics on the net don't do this little slice of heaven justice it is so so much better! The hot tub the view and overall atmosphere is so unique loved every second. Perfect place to celebrate 20 years of wedded bliss x 🥂💋❤️

When i sit back and recall our recent stay at the Sounds Resort there is one word that keeps springing in my mind MAGICAL, From the moment we drove up there long driveway and saw the magnificient view, we knew we were in for a real treat, Tony came directly out to meet us with a wonderful welcoming smile. Just what we needed after a long drive from Christchurch. From that moment on nothing was to much trouble, as Tony and Anne made sure every detail was perfect, Even allowing us to take their beautiful dog Bruce along the Queen Charlotte walking track - Bruce is a very special dog We booked in for Tony's and Anne"s magical cooking for dinner and what a treat that was from the table service setting to the magic of the cabana, all lit with wonderful candles, what a truly magical way to spend our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The food and wine pairing was perfectly selected for each dish. We have been to many places in the world but nothing has ever came this close to perfect as what we found here at the Sounds. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for giving us these special memories to cherish for a long time to come. Tony also was wonderful on our morning of departure alerting us that our plane was cancelled out of Blenheim early enough to allow us much needed time to ring the airlines to change our flights = without Tony's vigilance we would never have known our flight was cancelled.

This is a very special place if you're wanting to get away from the hustle, a Real Retreat. The drive from Nelson or Blenheim is spectacular, but nothing compared to the view up Queen Charlotte Sound from your suite, whatever the weather. Anne and Tony, and Bruce (their border collie) are wonderful hosts, looking after your every need. As the only guests you are very spoilt. They prepare the amazing meals and showcase mostly local food and wine with only a few imports - you must try the croissants! We relaxed totally. One day we walked for a few hours along the Queen Charlotte Sound with Bruce as our escort. Another day Anne organised a guide to take us winetasting around some of the many local vineyards. I highly recommend this and rate area as the best I've been to anywhere. In between times there was the spa, massages and just contemplating with more wine! The time was too short - needed more.

We were fortunate to spend 5 days at the Sounds to celebrate my birthday. From the moment we slowly curled our way up the driveway, we knew we were in for something special. Anne and Tony were fabulous hosts, and nothing was too much trouble for them. We were lucky to have perfect weather too which made sunrises and sunsets simply breathtaking. Breakfasts in your private cabana each morning. A lovely afternoon tipple on the deck followed with a lovely hot tub. We opted for a platter most nights which highlighted the many wonderful local delights, again served in your private cabana. We have had the most amazing time here and really feel blessed that Anne and Tony welcomed and shared their paradise with us. Hope we can return one day soon!

Every aspect of our stay was outstanding. From the fantastic hospitality, stunning views, extremely comfortable accommodation, well equipped gym, access to the Queen Charlotte Track, to the delicious food. We can not fault the Sounds Retreat in any way. This truly is 5 star service in paradise, not to be missed.

This is the nicest place we've ever stayed in. The views were spectacular, the hot tub at sunrise was magnificent, the food was amazing, and Tony and Anne were wonderful hosts. It was total perfection and relaxation. We loved coming there after our vineyard tours to relax in the hot tub to watch the sunset with a glass of wine. And we loved watching the sunrise over the water. Tony and Anne were awesome and even helped us with travel plans and flights which really improved our plans. We can't wait to come back. Thank you Tony and Anne.

My husband and I came here in mid April thanks to a recommendation from friends. But words can't do it justice. We really weren't prepared for just how gorgeous the Sounds Retreat would be or the remarkable service. For starters, the accommodation is stunning. It's hard to imagine a better view and the suite is so well thought out with so many built in details that are so lovely and unexpected (like a dim light that turns on when you go to the bathroom at night. I'm blind as a bat so I certainly appreciated that little detail.) The hot tub is such a great addition! The food was fabulous. Tony cooked one of the best pieces of fish we've ever had and they were so thoughtful in their wine selection, ensuring we tried wines from vineyards we didn't visit. Breakfast was absolutely lovely as well. Lastly, getting to know Anne and Tony was such a treat. They are kind, genuine, and interesting people whose company really rounded out the experience. We're already planning a trip back for a future anniversary. Book the Sounds Retreat ASAP!

The moment we arrived we felt welcome and immensively comfortable, from the personal welcome from Tony to the complementary wine on arrival, which was just perfect after a long drive. Anne and Tony were excellent hosts providing us with just the right amount of privacy and attention. Not to mention the fabulous location, with amazing views of the sound and just a short jog to the start of the Queen Charlotte track. It was perfect for us lovers of the outdoors. The special additional offer of taking Anne and Tony's fun loving border collie, Bruce, out for a morning run was just another highlight. We definitely recommend booking in a dinner one night and having the platter of delicious salmon, cheeses and meats for a relaxed night in.

We stayed here the night we got engaged after a month long trip to NZ. From the moment we arrived, Tony and Anne made us feel really welcome at their beautiful home. The location is absolutely stunning with uninterrupted views across the sound, which looks beautiful at sunset. The suite was gorgeous - everything is finished to such a high quality, furnishings are really comfortable and it is really private. Access to the private terrace and hot tub create the perfect spot to watch the sun go down. The food is amazing, all freshly cooked according to your taste by Tony. They created us a bespoke menu for our engagement, and even made a keepsake printed menu. It was easily equivalent to the standard you would get at a top restaurant, and served in the private cabana. Tony and Anne couldn't do enough to help; from advising on hiking routes to booking the water taxi, giving us a tour of their onsite beehives or talking us through the vast range of wines in the area, nothing was too much trouble. The adorable Bruce is also very friendly. Can't thank the team enough for a really memorable day. Would recommend this place without hesitation and hope to return!

Towards the end of our three week journey through New Zealand, we were fortunate to be able to stay at The Sounds Retreat. The owners Tony and Anne could not have been more accommodating, welcoming, and attentive to our needs as guests of their property. Our stay included a fabulous breakfast every morning, and we opted to eat dinner on the property during our entire stay after experiencing Tony's incredible meal on our first night. They have thought of every detail for your suite. The location of the plugs for your devices, the inclusion of AppleTv for you to enjoy, the oversized shower and the low light night time motion detectors on the way to the bathroom were all a sign of someone who understands what luxury travel is all about. The suite even included the use of a washer and dryer at no additional charge. This is a single suite lodge located in the home of your hosts so if you enjoy privacy with your partner this property is ideal. It is a bit removed from the wine tours of Marlborough and the city of Picton (30-45 mins) so you will need to have a car or a driver arranged if you stay here. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
