The Sailor Suite is a cozy and comfortable houseboat apartment, situated in the former sailors cabin or coaster Mado. Ideal for a couple or a family with 2 kids, offering you a private entrance, living room with sofa bed, kitchenette, bathroom and bedroom. The boat is located right next to the local swimming pond and gives you a magnificent view over the harbor. Just 1-5 minutes walking to lots of bars, restaurants, a shopping mall and bus + tram lines directly to the historical center.

The bright 3-room apartment with high ceilings includes a living room with kitchenette, bathroom and bedroom. The living room offers high speed wi-fi, Chrome cast 42 ”digital TV and sound system for streaming your Netflix and Spotify, comfortable under flour heating, ventilation and a sofa bed. Kitchen has a micro wave, tea kettle, Nespresso and refrigerator with freezer for preparing light meals (no cooking). The bathroom is nicely finished with modern fittings, thermostatic taps, shower with unlimited hot water, hairdryer, towels and hand soap. Bedroom includes double bed, cupboard and suitcase rack.

Coaster Mado is moored on KNSM island that is part of the Eastern Docklands in the center of Amsterdam. Merchants and world travelers used to travel from the East Indies, the United States and Surinam. Today KNSM island is known for its modern architecture, interior design shops and waterside cafes. Take your breakfast with commuters in Neeltje, drink a beer with locals at Cafe De Zuid or dine with Dutch celebrities at the Harbor Club.

The houseboat was amazing and so much fun! Very quiet at night and very little movement on the ship, we slept great. Sonder was very kind and the family left us a few beverages in the fridge which were much appreciated after a long travel day. Thank you!

Amsterdam House Boat MADO

If you are going to stay in Amsterdam, do not hesitate to book this boat. Great time, great views. Owners are super friendly and do the most to make sure the you have a great stay, provide help and answer any questions you might have. This location is great, short walk or bus ride to central station on bus 43 was very convenient. Made our experience in Amsterdam an exceptional time!

Amazing stay in every way

The Coaster Mado will be a highlight of our European Adventure. The accommodation was perfect for 4 of us (2 adults with 2 children). The bed in the bedroom was comfortable and so was the sofa bed. The kitchen and bathroom were spotless! We had amazing weather so spent a lot of time on the boat deck and swam with the locals each day in the swimming area which is right next to the boat. The accommodation was well located to catch public transport into the centre each day and lovely and quiet to come back to. We went to the supermarket (which was very close) to get some supplies. I would absolutely recommend staying here.

Wonderful stay

We began the first few days of our European trip at this cozy house boat. It was just as described and large enough to comfortably sleep 2 adults and 1 teenager. The hosts were very communicative and responsive. Location is convenient, 5 minute walk to bus/tram stop. Would stay here again.

Beautiful and spacious

My friend and I absolutely loved our stay on the boat. The neighborhood is quiet so it was nice to get out of the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam Centre. The suite is spacious and very comfortable with all of the amenities you would need. Sander was very friendly and provided a lot of information about the area. The host provided welcome snacks and drinks and left fresh tulips on the table. Public transportation is very close to the dock including a free commuter ferry. We loved spending our time here and would come back!

Coaster Mado Levantkade KNSM Island Amsterdam

Very comfortable in a tremendous location on the quayside in Amsterdam Eastern Harbour. Visited on the cusp of winter otherwise would have ventured up more than once to sit on drck to watch sunset with glass of wine. Owner Sander very friendly and knowledgable. Tremendous range of books in English explaining regeneration of docklands and biography of residents living in houseboats on the water - great for a guy like me who has worked in social housing all his life! Would commend the accommodation to anyone. Thanks again, Lawrie West, Dunfermline, Scotland.

Five Stars: Perfect

We had a fantastic stay at the boat and our hosts were very welcoming. The accommodation is spacious and super clean, but also quirky and fun. It is really convenient for public transport, the number 63 bus runs frequently to Central Station and it's a 5 minute walk from the boat to the bus stop. We really appreciated the extra touches in the boat, Pringles and chocolate, perfect! Having shampoo, conditioner and shower gel was also great as we took hand luggage only. The district that the boat is in has lots of lovely food shops, a bakery that does the best cheese croissants and restaurants too. We visited the Cancun restaurant a bus ride away and had some delicious food, we highly recommend it. In short the boat was perfect, the location fantastic and we would love to return. Cat & Tony

Perfect place to stay

Sander’s houseboat was the ideal place to spend my time in Amsterdam. The location was so convenient to get around the city, and the neighborhood was lovely. Sander and his family made check-in a breeze. The apartment is exactly as pictured, and it was a real delight to get to stay there.

Amazing stay on the Mado

My friend and I stayed on the Mado. Great location, wonderful host who always had good recommendation. Short walk to restaurants and about a 10 minutes bus ride to Amsterdam Centraal. You can start your mornings with a refreshing swim off the deck by the boat and finish it with a cocktail on deck.

Perfectly peaceful home for the weekend

We loved staying aboard this amazing house boat. The water was a perfect temperature for swimming, there are amazing restaurants and bars in walking distance, and you don’t have to deal with all the crazy hustle of the city. The hosts were fantastic, and full of information. We will be returning!

As soon as you step on, it really is breathtaking… the phenomenal views around, the swing on the deck of the boat, swimming area right next to the boat. You really do get to experience the dandy lifestyle of boat living! We loved that there were barely any tourists!! swimming area, near by fantastic restaurants, were all filled with the locals. You get to witness the locals way of life here, yet you are near to the intensity of Amsterdam. Transportations near by but we walked and biked to Amsterdam central station. The unit was very clean and beautiful. We stayed in August and the cross venting summer breeze through the nautical windows were wonderful. This stay was terrific for our family as our son was able to enjoy swimming, play soccer at the soccer court with goals right by the boat, during the morning and evening resting times. I could just keep eye on him while relaxing on the deck of the boat. Host was friendly and provided easy and fast communications.

Best kept secret - AMAZING!

Staying on MADO was the highlight of our time in Amsterdam. It is the perfect home base: quick and easy to get to the hustle and bustle of downtown Amsterdam, but off to the side enough to be relaxing, safe, and quiet for sleeping. Sander answered all of our questions beforehand, sent recommendations of places to eat, things to do etc, and was always available if needed (although we didn't need a thing). The MADO is very clean, exceptionally comfortable, very well stocked (the treats and drinks on arrival were very much appreciated). The space is bigger than the images lead you to believe; I was afraid of feeling trapped, but not at all! Lots of windows and space in the little suite. We loved watching the locals swim and sun bath next to the boat, and the kids enjoyed swimming too. We WILL be back (and for longe next time). Thank you for a wonderful experience ❤️

Experience Dutch life staying on a boat.

The Mado was a lovely place to stay on the water and easy to access central Amsterdam cheaply by frequent bus and tram.Very peaceful and away from the tourist trail. The owner is friendly and helpful and personal contact and contact via Whats App was reassuring. I stayed with my grand daughter and we each had a comfortable bed/sofa bed and there is a nice bathroom with all necessary toiletries. Nearby supermarket to buy breakfast and snacks and plenty of places to eat well. The steps into the boat are steep so you need to be physically fit! I would recommend The Mado as a lovely place to stay experiencing life on a Dutch boat and community and yet being so easy to access all attractions.

Experience actual Amsterdam

Loved it. First, it's a BOAT making it a very memorable and fun experience (surprisingly spacious btw). We felt right at home in Amsterdam Oost, it was a chance to experience what day to day life is like in Amsterdam. Kids loved it, swimming in the canal and meeting local children. Location is really accessible, close to center by tram or even walking. Our hosts were welcoming and considerate, making the stay easy. If you are in Amsterdam to party, this probably isn't for you, but this is a perfect place for a family esp with school age kids.

Peaceful long weekend on the water

We had an amazing stay at Coaster Mado. Sander and Marieke were very hospitable hosts, friendly and easily contactable. The boat has been recently renovated and has had all the comforts of of a modern flat, only better as it was on the water! It was a very special experience to stay on the boat and to be gently rocked to sleep. There is an amazing view on the Ij and the neighbouring islands; we spent some time on the jetty watching the sunset. The Eastern Docklands is an area worth exploring, it is a must-see for anyone interested in architecture and urban planning. We rented the bikes and spent a day cycling around the Easter Docklands. It is very easy to get to Central Amsterdam by public transport, it took us about 10 minutes to get to the Central Station and about 20 minutes to Leidseplein. We can highly recommend Coaster Mado, we hope we can stay there again when visiting Amsterdam next time.
