We ( family of four ) rented the Keizersgracht apartment in Amsterdam. We came in at night and a nice guy waited for us, as agreed upon with the keys. He showed us the two room apartment and explained about the appliances and the rules. As it was very late our inspection was cursory. We paid him his 50 Euro's for late arrival, as we knew we had to do. The following day we noticed that the bottle holder in the refrigerator was broken, that the shower head of the pole shower was hanging downwards, because of a loose screw, forcing us either to hold it in one hand, or use the ceiling one, forcing my wife and daughters to wet their very long hair. The shower is open with a big opening, without barrier, making it impossible to shower without wetting a big part of the floor outside of the shower. All of the above are rather small nuisances, but you prefer not to have them when you are staying there for a week. It took them a couple of days to fix the shower head and they also replaced the water kettle that smelled horribly. The really big problems were the heat and a terrible smell in the bathroom and the kitchen. Summers have become very hot in Holland and we when we were there it was more than 30 degrees Centigrade ( Nineties F.) The apartment has no AC and no ventilators. Both problems forced us to open the windows, which only helped partly, but caused my daughters and me to be bitten by mosquitos and one daughter to get stung by a wasp that had nestled in her bed. So we suffered the heat and the smell and the lack of fresh air and left the windows closed the whole evening and night. We informed them about it not being dusted enough and about the smell we thought was the from water. They did come to clean after a couple of days, which otherwise they would only have done after we left, but they did nothing about the stink that was horrible. We did not dare to drink the water and had to spend about ten Euro per day only on water. In the end we understood that the smell came from the sewer pipes, as a reaction to us opening the water. Cityden made no effort to fix this, besides coming by and telling us they did not smell anything. Another disappointment was only two towels pp for the whole week and almost no soap and shampoo and hearing every step of the upstairs neighbour, which is not uncommon in Holland. All in all the experience was bad for our 1400 Euro's paid and when I wrote them afterwards that I think it would be fair we would receive some of that money back, they offered us a "discount for the next time we rent their apartments". I wrote them that that would force us to take their apartment again and I am not sure we would want to next time. I wrote that for that to be the case it would need to be a very hefty discount and that I preferred some refund. Twelve days have passed but hey never replied to me anymore. --
Stayed in this apartment for a week and was totally happy and comfy here. There are two large bedrooms, a fabulous dining/living area, and a well equipped kitchen. The beds are really comfy and the shower is great. There's a washing machine and ironing board provided, which is handy. The location couldn't be better - only 10 minutes walk to the centre, 5 minutes to nearest tram, and loads of great bars, cafés and restaurants all around. Definitely recommend. I would stay here again.
Cityden apartments, my stay was horrible! we came for a vacation and felt like a prison. music could not be played without a noise complaint since everyone lives on top of each other. wifi was horrible it would time out for hours and being from overseas we need internet access to learn directions steep stairs and poor air circulations since windows didn't open.
Fantastic location. Very comfortable and clean 2 bedroom apartment. Second bedroom quite small but fine for kids or teens. Very responsive, suggest dealing directly with them via their website vs. through other travel sites. So much cheaper and more comfortable than 2 hotel rooms (which is what we would need with 2 adults + 2 teens). Only downside....the washer/dryer was a different model than their instructions. Was a bit of a puzzle but we managed to get it to do what we needed. Shower is poorly designed and it is impossible to take a shower without getting entire bathroom floor wet.
First off, the apartment we got got was in the best location! It was located close behind The Heineken experience. On the same block there is a plaza full of awesome restaurants and bars, a bike shop (where we rented bikes twice) and many coffee shops and breakfast places. It was also walking distance from the open market which had clothes, food, souvenirs, flowers, basically whatever you are looking for! The apartment was clean, very spacious, nice kitchen with island, awesome decor including a pink ceramic pig and a chihuahua painting. I will definitely use Cityden Apt., next time I am in town! Plus the staff was very attentive if we needed anything.
This was a great apartment in a fantastic area — close to the major museums, easy tram access, nice bars and restaurants — but quiet. It was sweet, clean, cool decor. Has a nice little kitchen, good TV; wifi was excellent!! Dunja was a great host and stayed in communication with us to make our arrival and check-in easy.
We stayed at the location on Hazenstraat. The apartment was wonderfully located on a fairly quiet street, but very walkable to all the major locations - 9 Streets (5 minutes), the museums (15 minutes), the central station / Dam area (20 minutes), and very close to the tram line. Less than a block to the nearest canal. Beds were comfortable, the apartment was clean, and it was as advertised on the Cityden website. Check in and check out were smooth, and we had no real issues during our weeklong stay. As with any old building, especially in the Amsterdam style, there are some quirks: very steep narrow stairs, one bathroom with sinks and shower in one of the bedrooms, and another on the main floor with the toilet. There were a few minor issues, like a few lightbulbs that need replacing and a couple pieces of furniture that could use some TLC, but this is par for the course when you have different people staying every week and likely most of them don't alert management to the issues (we did, so I presume they'll be remedied.) All in all, if you're looking for space to spread out (as opposed to a cramped hotel room) in a nice location, in an authentic building, this was a great choice. Note: due to the stairs, this apartment is likely not good for very young children or elderly people who might have trouble climbing up or down.
We spent 7 nights in the apartment on Nieuwe Kerkstraat in March. The apartment had three bedrooms, a sitting room, kitchen, dining area and one bathroom. The facilities suited the five of us. We enjoy walking so we only used the tram one time. Half a block away was a grocery. Several nights loud talking disturbed those in the bedroom on the street side, Excellent instructions were provided. The beds were comfortable. We would certainly consider staying here again.
We stayed in the three bedroom Jordaan Canal apartment for a family trip. The apartment was beautiful. The pictures on the website are exactly what you get. It was great having a full size kitchen, and a grocery store a couple blocks away. We enjoyed a few family meals here. The bedrooms are spacious as well as the showers. There are countless restaurants near by, and tons of shopping and museums within a couple miles. Dunja was our host and was very accommodating and friendly. She let us check in early due to us getting in at 9am after a very long flight. She had a lot of great recommendations for food and entertainment. We love Amsterdam and will definitely stay here next time we visit.
