Gateway Hotel and Conference Center

Check in was great. Staff very nice. My go to hotel when in the Ames area.

We enjoyed our stay at the Gateway....the only issue we had was with the restaurant staff on three occasions of using the restaurant. Inattentive staff for the most part, not refilling drinks and taking a long time to get an order in and back out again for some reason. Plenty of workers, but didn't seem to be in any hurry to do anything.

Went to check in and the lady said we did not have a reservation. Had to get the my email conformation plus the manager to find my reservation. Do not stay in room 235 because you will be kept up all night by the heating unit next door. It will even cause the bathroom mirror to shake. Hotel rooms need updating, look tired and old.

The staff here are top-notch and friendly. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

Experience was pleasant. No problems. Been here a fair amount and I can't say I have had any problems or complaints.

The hotel was in a great location, very clean and the staff was helpful.

We were in town for a FIRST LEGO League competition and were only at the hotel from 9 pm to 7:30 am but enjoyed the pool/hot-tub, great rooms, excellent food, and tremendous service. Was recommended by a co-worker and now I know why! :)

The hotel was very nice and clean. The staff was also very helpful.

perfect location, it's next to iowa university, I met a lot of people who go to school there. the trip was amazing. and the breakfast buffet for 10.99 totally worth it.

I have been staying at the Gateway for years. The beds and bedding are second to none, the staff helpful and friendly and a good value for the level of service you receive. Great indoor pool and whirlpool and very adequate fitness room.

I had stayed at this hotel years ago and thought it was the best in the area. Unfortunately, despite it's high price tag, it was very disappointing. The air was so dry from the old room heater we could barely breathe. The bed and pillow were not at all comfortable. Breakfast prices were high, so we skipped it. It was disappointing the next morning to hear from others who stayed at less-expensive hotels and enjoyed much greater comfort and amenities. Won't make that mistake again.

Love the Gateway, stayed there several times when dropping off my grandson at Iowa State. It's a beautiful hotel, nice comfortable rooms and extremely helpful staff. If it had a mini fridge and microwave, it would be almost perfect for my kids, when travelling with the baby. For me it's great, a very relaxing experience.

Great location and amenities with restaurant on-site. Rooms and overall experience were average as rooms and hotel are a bit dated.

Room was comfortable and clean. Was a little outdated compared to some of the newer hotels in the area, but the rate made up for it. Restaurant on site was good.

I stayed here for a few nights with my dog while starting grad school. The hotel was extremely close to Iowa State and incredibly clean and comfortable. I'd stay here again.

I was pleased with the setting and accomodations. The staff was very helpful. The excercise room was too warm, seemingly no air conditioning or cirulation although there was a unit in the wall. the pool is a good size and allows for swimming but I would have felt better if it looked cleaner. Hotel pools present some risks if not kept very clean and monitored.

Lots of amenities, good location. nice to have a bar and restaurant on site

Went for a wedding held off-site-they were very busy with them that weekend. Enjoyed the trails around the property. they have plenty of info in the rooms about Iowa State University sights and events and information about Ames. The hotel restaurant and lounge has a great selection of local beers and spirits.

Room and bed were very comfotable. It is pricey for Ames but if you need a quiet good night of rest it is well worth it.

Very clean hotel, friendly staff, comfortable room, and good dining inside.
