My husband, our daughter, and I were making our way around Europe on a month long vacation. It was our first time to visit Portugal and we weren't sure what city would be best for a relaxing weekend soaking up the sun, but this one wasn't too far from where we were visiting in Spain, we decided to give it a try. As we approached the hotel by car, we were in awe by the spectacular beach views! But the best part was when we checked into our hotel and discovered our room had a close up view of both the beach and the pool! If you are lucky enough to get room #120, you will not be disappointed because it is a huge corner room with large views in both directions and a balcony with table & chairs. While we could have just stayed in our room all weekend because the view made us feel like we were already at the beach, we were excited to get our swimsuits on and start soaking up the sun! The resort has a gate that takes you directly to the beach where you will find endless beach recliners and umbrellas and an attendant to rent one to you. A few minutes later we had tropical drinks in our hands and were in absolute paradise! The weather was perfect too! In the evening, the hotel is located right on the main pedestrian walkway where all the restaurants, shop, & action are so just stroll out the front door and check it out! We had dinner at a nearby seafood restaurant called Bombordo that was delicious! Day #2 began with a delicious breakfast buffet at our hotel and then we hung out by the big beautiful pool with a glorious view of the beach all day! Get there early for lounge chairs with the best view! They offered food service at the pool so we never had to leave to get lunch or drinks! That was Saturday and the hotel had a special bbq buffet for dinner which was perfect as we worn out from being in the sun all day and didn't want to leave the resort. Day #3 was back to the beach where we rented jet skis just outside of our hotel and had a lot of fun on those for our last day in Portugal. Day #4 we had an early flight out of there, extremely satisfied with a perfect ending to our European vacation and hopeful we will have the chance to return to Holiday Inn Algarve again someday!
The hotel is on an excellent location: right on the beach. Armacao de Pera is a very nice fishing village, with not too many tourists from abroad. The hotel staff is very kind. A great heated pool, outside, with ocean view. The rooms have a balcony.
High Season prices during this time period. Great location -beach on one side, board walk on the other. Well run. Bufffets at this time were mediocre. May improve during spring summer season. Great WiFI. Parking is limited directly at the hotel, but free parking Could be sesonal?) is available in lot next door. Heated pool really was heated and open! Ocean view rooms really do have beach and ocean views along with small ( two person balconies. Caters to tour groups. Very good and inexpensive restaurants in the area. We used it as a base to explore the Algarve, so view was not critical. We did a great view of New Years fireworks from the balcony!! Easy direct access to A22 highway for exploring the Algavre between the tip of the peninsula and Faro.
We have been going to this hotel for over 20 years and always been happy - but this year standards have slipped so far I felt I just had to write a review in the hope that management reads it and reacts. Firstly the good - the room and the staff were first class as always. Then the bad, the dining - no gala atmosphere for Christmas except for a cracker on Christmas day, all meals buffet style even though Christmas day was designated 'dinner'. Christmas Eve and Boxing Day buffets were typical 2 - 3* overlarge portions in heated containers, overcooked, kept just warm, just edible, meat, pasta, vegetable with a minimalistic salad starter and creamy desserts - nowhere near the 4* they purport to be !!! Christmas Day was so bad that the only description must be pathetic (particularly bearing in mind the fact that we had paid high seasonal prices for it) - prawns in filo pastry that had been kept in a fridge for so long beforehand that they had gone soggy and tough, roast beef (very chewy) and (non-existent) Yorkshire puddings , then the highlight of 'turkey with all the trimmings' which was a turgid mess of some sort of meat and a few small chipolatas floating round in a greasy brown sauce (reminiscent of sewage farm on a Saturday night !!), accompanied by vastly overcooked frozen selection of vegetables and to finish a slab of refrigerated Christmas pudding. All this vastly overpriced disaster compared so badly with previous times (when it was Hotel Garbe) where after a self-service cold table with prawns, smoked salmon and lots of different salads, plated white and dark meat turkey with fresh stuffing, roast potatoes, sprouts, parsnips were served with extras being offered if required followed by hot Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, coffee and mince pies. It is such a shame as the hotel had a good reputation but now I would strongly recommend anyone to treat it as a 3* B & B and go out to eat in one of the many good and reasonably priced eateries in Armacao.
The hotel is spotless. Staff very helpful. Food superb. Room immaculate. 10/10 for the whole holiday.i would certainly go again. Travelled under the Saga banner. They certainly know their stuff. Reps on the ball
Perfect position, lovely staff, excellent service and away from the tourist madness (out of season). You can take a bus easily to the bus station where you can then go further afield if you wish. Lots of eateries nearby although many close when out of season. This hotel has managed to retain the 'family' owned feel even though under the Holiday Inn franchise now. Since my last visit when it was the Hotel Garb many years ago some of the furnishings have been updated and seating modernised in the reception area plus I believe the bedrooms have been refurbished. In some ways I am sorry the 'coldness' of the HI branding has been introduced but it's only the physical and not the heart that's been changed.. I will definitely return to this gem of a hotel on the popular Algarve coast.
Well what can I say been going to this hotel under is different names my whole life and still every time I go it’s just as good of not better. We stayed for 5 nights at the start of September...we had a lovely sea view room on the 5th floor, lovely comfortable bed, big bathroom & great balcony. Rooms come with a fridge which is really handy to make sure you have cold drinks on the really hot days. Wonderful food once again, the breakfast is unbeatable for choice and how good it tastes. We went to the new restaurant they have on the beach which was wonderful fresh Portuguese cuisine, I would fully recommend taking advantage of the happy hour in the bar as-well. Overall another wonderful stay we will be back again!
Just returned from holiday for 1 week in this hotel.Lovely hotel, we stayed B&b.Enjoyed breakfast and had 1 dinner in restaurant.Hotel is spotless and room was lovely with seaview.Could hear the waves from room.Beautiful beach.Warm for November. Many restaurants and shops were closed but still plenty to give choice for meals and refreshments.Staff were lovely in hotel, could with bit more entertainment in evenings.Would definitely return.
This was the only hotel in this area that was right on the beach with direct beach access. The street in front of the Holiday Inn was a wide walking street with one-way traffic to the east in the center of the walkway. An Indian restaurant RAJ was next door to the west, and the Palm Beach Bar restaurant was at the east end of the hotel (reservations required). Parking was on the hotel grounds, and beach parking was next door to the west for overflow during the high season. There were many restaurants both east and west of the hotel along the beach and boardwalk, but we chose to eat breakfast both days at the hotel restaurant and dinner our first night at the hotel restaurant; our bill was 60 Euros for two people for two breakfasts and one dinner - very reasonable. Our second night we ate dinner at the Olivalmar Beach-Cafe located easy walking distance to the west overlooking the beach to try a traditional Portuguese dish, cataplana; the bill for that meal was 65 Euros for a bottle of wine, bread & cheese, calamari appetizer with chips, and a lobster-prawn cataplana with potatoes. The Holiday Inn had a bar and a work out room with walk-down steps to the beach (remember to take a room key to get back in the beach gate). We had a nice upgrade to an executive room on the first floor (first floor above the ground floor) with a balcony looking west and a double opening door looking east. Breakfast at the hotel was a buffett offering a wide selection of both hot and cold food, fruits, pastries, juice, coffee, and tea. Dinner at the hotel was also buffett style with a wide selection of dishes. We traveled to the Algarve during the off season, and many restaurants were closed, so it paid to check before heading out to a local restaurant. The beach was wonderful and people were swimming even with the cool weather of November.
Ideal beach location with a beautiful sea view from private balcony. Airy spacious bright room with loads storage space and good facilities. Excellent service from all staff who were so friendly and helpful. The general ambience was relaxed and efficient and made us feel very comfortable and chilled out during our two week sta Briege and John Morgan
