We had a week stay in Athinoula. Location is quite good - close to the beach and other amenities. The room was cleaned 4 times during our stay. However, the room itself was uncomfortable and the staff could definitely be more friendly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ (i) After arrival we were lead to our room by the receptionist. From two possible routes with essentially the same length he chose the option without a ramp not paying attention to the heavy bags we were carrying. (ii) Our studio room appeared to be located in the basement but that was not the main problem. It had only one and a very small (about 10cm wide) window. That was clearly inadequate to provide efficient ventilation. Next day I tried to change the room but was told that all studio rooms are similar and located in the basement. My request for an upgrade was also declined. (iii) The sliding door of the toilet was barely moving with a horrible sound sufficient to wake up half of the hotel during the night. I was promised that the remedy action will be taken but that never happened during our stay. (iv) The shower curtain was by far too short. So even most careful use of the shower resulted in a pool of water covering the entire floor surface. (v) The WiFi was not available in the room. (vi) Not surprisingly at the end we were not granted a one hour delay for the checkout and had to wait for our transfer in the reception. Finally our and other departing guests luggage was requested to be moved outside despite it didn’t create any obstruction in a big room. P.S. I previously sent this report to Travel Republic on their request as my holiday supplier. They did not publish it obviously giving preference to the positive reports. Do not trust their marks!
Another fantastic holiday at this amazing hotel.Nothing is to much trouble.Lovely family great food.We are welcomed back like family everytime, can't wait to return next June.!This hotel is great value spotlessly clean with a lovely atmosphere.
We arrived here a little bit later than expected due to an hours delay on our flight. As the place advertises a 24 hour reception arriving at 1:15 am shouldn't be a problem, or so I thought. Our welcome by the owner was ..well, no welcome at all. He grunted "passports" at us, no eye contact. He tapped away on his keyboard then justushered us out to follow him. He was ok whilst showing us the room but aside from that during our stay if we saw him he completely blanked me if I said hello (in greek). I had read other reviews about him and figured he might just be a bit deadpan but no, he really is quite rude and unfriendly. Perhaps he is more polite to his army of repeat customers. The room itself..what we booked was a one bedroom self catering apartment. What we got was a studio which was basically a basement room. The self catering equipment was as expected - basic but in the end we really only used the fridge so it didn't matter too much. The bathroom is tiny but we could get a decent shower so wasn't all bad but as there is no window in there the room has a very noisy extractor fan when you turn the light on which makes it quite noisy in the night if you want to go to the toilet! The beds couldnt really push together properly like you can usually do with 2 single beds but there was a decent sized wardrobe with enough hangers. The terrace was shared with your neighbours so whilst our neighbours were very nice I am sure both parties would prefer a private terrace or balcony. Furthermore, it was directly outside the pool bar which meant you could never get away from the music and there felt even less privacy to sit on the terrace. Also, there was a constant dripping from above somewhere right onto the terrace over the seating area and table. The plus of being by the pool is that our room benefited from free wifi all of the time as we were in range. The pool and terrace in themselves were quite nice but during our stay there was an ever increasing army of repeat customers. Seemed very cliquey and reminded me of Benidorm the programme in so much as they all obviously go back at the same time of year and all know each other. I was usually the first one to take my place on the sunbed often about 8:30 am and they already had their towels down but often made no appearance until about midday which felt unfair when other people couldn't get a bed. The pool bar initself was ok. The lady running it was friendly enough if you went and ordered anything but didn't bother with you if you didn't. Sometimes her son opened it up and sometimes the music was ludicrously loud and became very tedious and repetitive. I didn't like Ed Sheeran before I went on holiday and I like him even less now!! It did seem to be turned down towards the end of the holiday so I don't know if someone had requested this but that was better. The location of the hotel is in a nice place set back from the main road so really near everything but away from the noise of traffic. The nearest supermarket owners are very friendly but I discovered that Oasis supermarket another minute or tow along the road is cheaper and better stocked and sold delicious fresh pastries, sandwiches and salads everyday. I miss those spinach and cheese pies. On our last day nobody had communicated what time we needed to leave the apartmet but at 11 am thecleaner came and just stood looking at us so we scarpered. I handed the key back to Basil Fawlty the owner and again, not so much as a smile from him. We sat in reception to wait for our bus to the airport and another lady was waiting in there with her luggage. Mr Grumpy came and barked at her to take her luggage outside reception. He was very rude to her and by this time, when the bus arrived early to collect us all, I was rather greatful to be leaving his hotel! On balance there are some good points to this place (location, reasonable pool) but the negatives outweighed those..Kefalos is a lovely place and I would return to the resort but I probably wouldn't return to Athinoula .
Every year I come to KOs for Windsurfing and prior to that stayed in the apartments only. This time I stayed at this hotel and not regretted it. Large and bright room with balcony and beautiful views of the sea and the mountains. Maid service every day. A great hearty breakfast. Convenient location - to the station "Vetratoria" and the sea to go less than 5 minutes. And most importantly very quiet place, far away from the main road of Kefalos. But there is a small negative - the lack of in room fridge that is not allowed in the evenings to fully enjoy the local wine and cheese.
Stayed a week. Did not feel welcome. The old man in reception just stared at you as if you done something wrong. No free WIFI. Room was dirty not cleaned properly. Pool looked dirty. Looked like staff just didn't care. Sunbeds look worn out. Not recommend at all.
just got back after spending a week staff were excellent nothing to much trouble place is spotless will go back very quiet and safe there are safe deposit boxes hair dryer in room cleaned every day apart from sun
We stayed here for 10 nights in June and found it to be a very clean hotel. Situated in a quiet area of a very quiet resort. It said on the room information that towels/sheets are changed twice a week but I'm sure our towels were changed nearly every day. We had a room overlooking a good sized pool. We could also see the sea and surrounding area. No TV which didn't bother me. Pool bar was very nice but it (and the inside bar) did not stay open in the evening (well, not whilst we were there anyway). We didn't use the air conditioning which was probably wise as I could see a bird in there. Breakfast was the usual fare - ham/cheese, bread, jam and boiled eggs. My partner was disappointed that there was no toaster. Would definitely stay here again.
This hotel has been a favourite of our for 7 years do your own thing come and go as you want or get involved with pool life or beach it's up to you about 100mt to a nice beach great views of the sail boards or boat criss crossing the bay. Just a along a legal road to bars and tavernas for a local dish and a nice waters edge bar don't forget your camera you will love it. If your fit go up with the hill to the village or get the kos bus up and walk down either way go up and look around and go back in time it's in a time warp
Stayed hear for one week it's a family run hotel had continental breakfast which was good had lunch at there pool bar which was also very good swimming pool was excellent sunbeds were free and plentiful would recommend to anyone
I had this hotel recommended by a friend who has been staying normally twice a year for about 10 years. I have to say it was everything he said it would be, it's family owned and run and they are all very friendly and obliging. The rooms are clean and comfortable and more than adequate for the price you pay. The pool is clean and the overall area is also very clean and well kept.. They have a nice pool bar where you can purchase a wide range of snacks and drinks at sensible prices. Overall Kefalos is somewhere to have a very relaxing holiday as it's quiet, we ended up most nights in the hotel bar where the family always made us welcome and joined in all the fun with the guests. I think the best testimony I can give about the Athinoula is that I met so many people while I was there that go back year after year. I have never experienced that on any other holiday so they must be doing something right.
