Having to put my wife and two nieces on an early flight, we booked two rooms for one night. Check in was easy, the rooms were very nice and the service excellent. Over all a good night. The one slight gripe was lack of Foxtel.
Our son and daughter in law stayed here for their honeymoon 2 years ago and found the staff and everything perfect. Went back for their 1st anniversary and found everything more or less the same. Went for their 3rd anniversary expecting more of the same only for this stay to be sooo not good! They arrived and found the bar, coffee area closed. This at 1.45 pm. They had chosen the honeymoon suite again . On arrival they were charged $10 hotel parking. ( I'll address this soon). They ran a spa bath only to find pubic hairs floating on top! The food ordered for room service was (Beef burger) sloppy and they ended up spending the night on the toilet. Only to find they had no spare loo rolls. When my son rang the manager she said there was nothing she could do about their problems they had experienced. She did give them the carpark for free and took the $4 fee for tray service off. Having thought that the bottle of champagne in the fridge was free as before she still charged them $42 for it. Stating it was a misunderstanding. She didn't seem to care about the dirty spa, lack of loo paper or the bad food. They will not be returning as this manager doesn't care about the service her staff are providing!
For mine, the best of the Rydges hotels I stay in. The staff are excellent, the rooms are nice, and the bar and restaurant are just great. The manager wanders the lobby and the restaurants, all suited up, saying hello, nodding, asking if he can assist. he runs a tight ship. The location is good for access from out of town, but not the best if you are going downtown. I like it a lot.
As a regular traveller to Adelaide I thought I'd transfer my stays to this Rydges, it was a bit of a mistake. The good: There was the customary welcome note from the manager (the awards program at work) which is always nice. The meal in the restaurant was great and the waiter (Joel?) was most professional; but it was a struggle to hear him. The Bad: Why couldn't I hear the waiter ... thanks to the live music two floors above my room next to the restaurant. I'm not joking, in the best tradition of an Aussie pub there was a live band with a drum kit seemingly tuned to the building's resonance. If I hadn't gone to bed expecting sleep I could have sung along such was the clarity of the drums, electric guitar and the singer in my room. It gave me the impression of a room in a cheap hotel, particularly with the worn furniture and the second-hand coat hangers. If you'd like 'cheap and cheerful' at a middle-high price, this is the venue. If you arrive expecting a quiet hotel for a business trip, play it safe and book somewhere else ... hnkess you're a night-owl with a penchant for live music.
I stayed twice in August & was surprised at the different quality of rooms that at first glance looked the same. The 1st room I had was on the 4th floor & I couldn't fault it. Soft, large towels, firm bed, large shower alcove with strong water pressure & good strong free wifi. The room a week later on the 6th floor had small, rough towels & the bench where I put my suitcase looked like it was about to come away from the wall. The shower was inside a bathtub & the water pressure was terrible. I also couldn't get wifi signal in the room at all & after trying to help me the hotel staff also gave up & offered no alternative except to stand in the hallway where there was signal. If they'd given me the 6th floor room the first time, I wouldn't have returned a week later. If I return again I'll ask specifically for a room like the 1st one. Good things about both rooms is the great heating lamp in bathroom which is a must in winter & it was great to have a door that opens to small balcony allowing some fresh air & to check out the weather. Parking on South Tce on weekends is also easy & during the week hotel parking is very cheap compared to other city hotels. It's also in a really convenient spot that is close to the airport & easy to navigate around city traffic as it's on the edge of the cbd.
Room was ok, apart from the icy cold draught steaming in through the balcony door. Unfortunately my room was directly below the bar/restaurant on the 6th floor. The noise from above was transmitted through the floor all evening until closing. A complaint to reception was pretty well ignored, apparently the hotel was full. Odd really, as the carpark was half empty and the restaurant wasn't exactly busy (despite the noise) As a gold member, I supposedly receive free bottled water during my stay. Despite being here for 2 days and asking at reception, I am still waiting for that delivery. The breakfasts are brilliant, the food is well cooked and hot. Probably won't come back here and really can't recommend it - mainly due to the last of interest from the reception staff. It's called "front of house" for a reason, and it's not a great impression.
We stayed as we had a work dinner just down the road. The room was lovely and what I would expect for the price we paid. The staff were fantastic and very friendly, its always nice to feel welcomed when you arrive at a hotel. My only small complaint will be if we stay again, we will request a room away from the elevator as it was quite noisy and interrupted our sleep In as we were childless and had a late check out! The buffet breakfast was well done and once again the staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely stay again should we require to be out that side of the city!
Hard bed. That's all I can remember ..... hard bed!! The hotel itself is a little bit tired and worn, well certainly my room and the floor I was on. The hotel is also, located quite some way away from everything, which is fine if you have a car but not so good otherwise, although they did offer a CBD shuttle bus service between 7am and 10am. I only stayed the one night so can't really say much more about it. Other than the bed, it was bearable enough for the one night.
Great hotel I must say. Very quiet , friendly staff who were always available to help. I loved loved their 24 hours Pizza and Chicken parmigiana.. 😍almost ate that every day. Internet speeds were good. 👍
Excellent value. Large, bright, airy room with great bathroom. Loved the room and friendliness of the Hotel staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Overlooking parklands, with own balcony. On Southern edge of the city but within walking distance of everything. Parking on site. Lovely bar and restaurant on 6th floor. Great food and night time view.
