We stood at the RIU Palace in June 2025: family of 5. The RIU Palace Punta Cana is an older facility.
Check in: Check in was pretty painless not a huge line. However, other all inclusive will usually have someone who tags your bags while you wait for the room and that didn't happen. There was no one there to greet you with a drink as some other places do. Lastly, there was no working taking you bags to the room, you have to do it yourself. Not a deal breaker.
Restaurants: The buffet were great, the food was awesome and there was no shortage of locations to eat. At night, unlike other resorts where you make appointments for ala carte restaurants, RIU you had to be there a "hope" there was space available. The Japanese/Sushi place was our first stop the worst experience, carried around a pager for 2 hours without getting into the restaurant.
Beach: was full of seaweed and unusable for most of the stay. They did clean it up, so we went in for one day.
Outside excursions: We planned for one, but the front desk made a mistake and wouldn't let the front gate know we were getting picked up. The front desk made our family walk about .5 miles to the gate for no reason. The gate guard told us the excursion would pick us up.
Room: We had adjoining rooms. The rooms were older, AC was not crisp. The outlets were so fragile we couldn't charge our phones with wiggling the power cord. Our shower was leaking from the control valve, we put a ticket but it was not resolved.

The property is beautiful and has a lot of glamour rooms are wonderful and spa was amazing. Traveling here at their peak season not a great idea due to shuttle service being limited around the resort and overcrowded. Restaurants can’t accommodate you because they are booked up, places running out of certain foods. Food was just ok and entertainment was not great. Waterpark was really great kids had wonderful time but other than that most other kid activities you had to pay they are not expensive though.

The resort was very pretty and well maintained. It was clean and we felt safe. We absolutely loved most of the restaurants at which we dined. La Comedie had the best food I've ever had.
Service needs some work. We upgraded to premium level and was incredibly underwhelmed (premium level was very worth it at other resorts).
The biggest perk for a family of 5 was to reserve dinner plans ahead of time by emailing them. It didn't work out. I did not receive a response to my email or my follow up. When we arrived, they did not try to honor my requests or acknowledge my inconvenience. Instead, we got what was available. Rather, I was made to feel like I was ignored because I was not entitled to that benefit because the guest service rep told me the French restaurant cost extra (it is included in premium level). My email, had it been opened, indicated we paid for this upgrade and gave my information.
No one was completely disrespectful, but it was certainly not like the service I've received from other resorts. Some of the staff made us feel like we were an inconvenience.
I would like to compliment the theatre bar staff as they were incredibly nice, seemed to be enjoying themselves, and really went above and beyond. Oliver at the adults only pool was great, too.
Because we have had consistently great experiences at another resort, we will go there. But I would tell a friend don't bother upgrading to premium level if they chose this resort.

What a wonderful time we had during our stay at Excellence Punta Cana,everything was pure bliss. My boyfriend and I enjoyed ourselves so much that we’re already planning our return. The atmosphere was exactly what we wanted: relaxing, refreshing, and the perfect setting to enjoy quality time together.
A huge highlight was the Hibachi at Spice. Jorgy put on such a fun and unique performance that stood out from any other hibachi we’ve been to, full of humor and that special DR touch. Truly a must-try in person!
