Fly from Sydney to Brisbane to get a taste of what one of Australia's oldest cities has to offer. It only takes an hour and a half to get to the capital of Queensland, so it's convenient to transport yourself to the banks of the Brisbane River after taking the Airport Link underground rail to the Sydney Airport (SYD).
The region is known for its spacious outdoor areas, including the South Bank Parklands, the City Botanic Gardens and the Portside Wharf. Animal lovers can admire the koalas at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary or see native animals up close at the Australia Zoo. You can get expansive views of the city from the Mount Coot-tha Lookout. You could either hike or drive up, and the cafe at the top offers a nice place to relax.
Travelers who arrive at the Brisbane Airport (BNE) can take a taxi or the Airtrain to the city. You can expect warm temperatures year-round as the highs are in the upper 80s in the summer and in the low 70s in the winter. People flock to the city each September for the Brisbane Festival, which is packed with live performances and neighborhood fairs for three weeks. Also in September, you can cheer on runners at the Bridge to Brisbane 10K and 5K runs.
