Anyone living in Memphis can plan a trip to Baltimore to see a vibrant city with a busy harbor and plenty of dining options. After taking off from the Memphis International Airport (MEM), you can fly from Memphis to Baltimore in just over two hours, making it easy to visit a place that's played a significant role in American history.
History buffs will enjoy a visit to the Fort McHenry National Monument. Here, Americans fought off the British in the War of 1812 and raised the famous flag that inspired Francis Scott Key to write "The Star-Spangled Banner". Most of the activity for visitors is centered in the Inner Harbor, and a trip up to the Top of the World Observation Level at the World Trade Center Institute can give you a great perspective of the district. Those interested in science can head to the Maryland Science Center and the National Aquarium, which are located on opposite sides of the Inner Harbor. Just a few steps away from the aquarium are the Historic Ships of Baltimore, a collection of four former military vessels that are open for tours.
After arriving at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), you can take a taxi or the MARC train to your destination. Interstates 83 and 395 lead into the downtown area and the Inner Harbor, and Interstate 95 connects the city with D.C. and New York. Daytime highs range from the upper 80s in the summer to the 40s in the winter.
