The bustling streets of Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, offer all of the virtues and vices of a cosmopolitan metropolis. If you need a break from the city, a trip to the town of Siem Reap in Cambodia may be just what you’re looking for. Flights from Bangkok to Siem Reap are affordable, especially if you use Orbitz.com to book your trip.
Bangkok has two major international airports, but if you want a nonstop flight to Siem Reap, you’ll have to fly out of Suvarnabhumi Airport, located about nineteen miles from downtown. Bangkok Airways and Cambodia Angkor Air fly directly into Siem Reap. You can take the dedicated Airport Rail Link to the airport at a cost of about ninety baht for express service. Other options are the private Airport Express buses, regular train service, metered taxis, and limousine taxis. If you prefer to drive yourself to the airport, you can park at one of the four car parks near the terminal, or you can park in the long-term car park located by the Public Transport Center.
Siem Reap is located in northern Cambodia. It is the access point for the Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most important archaeological locations in Southeast Asia. Visitors arrive at Siem Reap International Airport, located approximately four miles from the town center. You can get from the airport to the center of town by taxi for a flat fee of approximately seven U.S. dollars or by prepaid tuktuk for a bit less. Most hotels offer a free airport shuttle service. When you arrive in Siem Reap, expect hot weather, since the average temperature rarely falls below 86°F. The wet season runs from April to November, so be prepared for rain if you travel during these months. Be sure to place some of Siem Reap’s most popular highlights on your itinerary, including Angkor Archaeological Park, Angkor National Museum, and the Wat Bo and Wat Preah Prom Rath temples. If you visit in October or November, you can check out the Water Festival, one of the most extravagant town festivals on the calendar.
