Unique Local Flavor
This property is not quite a traditional VRBO, as the owners live on-site. However, for our family that was not a drawback, as it meant that Eduardo would wander by with four servings of whatever delicious item Betty was creating (homemade flan, Spanish tortilla, carrot cake, oh my!) That also allowed us to participate in a coffee history lesson and coffee roasting--truly one of the exceptional experiences we had in Costa Rica. Eduardo also was very accommodating as our check-in time got pushed back later and later due to the insanity of traffic in downtown San Jose (we had to drop off a friend before heading up into the mountains). The property is beautiful, with gorgeous flowers and fruit trees. It smells amazing, and the quirky architecture of the main building is completely unique. That being said, I might hesitate to recommend this property to families with small children. Each space (kitchen, social area/main bedroom/second bedroom) is separated from one another and requires some amount of time outside to move between spaces. That worked just fine for our family with two teenagers, but I think it could have been challenging for families with smaller kids. If you have older kids, or are two couples traveling together, this is a one-of-a-kind living experience. And Eduardo & Betty make it exceptionally special. Fair warning: If you try their coffee or coffee-tea, make sure you budget to bring some home. It's just too good to leave there!!
