TLDR: The management and front desk staff are rude and seem not to understand how hotels are supposed to work. This stay felt a bit like an episode of Seinfeld, given its absurdity.
Details:
- Arrived at the hotel at approximately 2:30pm, at which time there was a sign on the door saying the staff were out to lunch.
- After doing a bit of shopping, dragging along my roll-abord bag, I returned at about 3:20, but there was another sign saying that the staff were assisting other customers.
- The front desk employee appeared at 3:30, saying that the room was not ready (check-in was 4pm, so that was ok). She said they would try to get it ready by then but could not guarantee it (as if there were no contractual obligation to have the room ready on time).
- I checked my bags and asked to use the restroom to change, but she did not allow me to do so.
- The front desk employee said she'd call when the room was ready, but she did not call as of 4:15pm, so I returned to check on things myself.
- After telling the front desk employee that I wanted to be credited some amount for the room being ready late, she told me there was no reason to be so difficult (perhaps we should refer to the Beach Haven area as the "gaslight district").
- The front desk employee asked me to leave her office while she contacted a manger.
- The rude manager ultimately allowed me to stay there (siding with the front desk employee in our discussion), but it was a very difficult encounter.
