Our stay at Monterey Bay Lodge was a letdown from the start. The receptionist, as the first point of contact, set the tone—and unfortunately, it wasn’t a good one. She looked miserable, as if she didn’t want to be there, and made no effort to be welcoming. No “please” or “thank you,” just a cold, disinterested attitude that carried over when we later called reception.
Our room was on the ground level, and the guests above arrived around midnight, making noise until 2 AM—so much for a restful stay. While the room itself was clean, it was seriously dated. The bathroom was freezing, with no heating, and the only heater in the room barely made a difference.
Overall, this place was disappointing—noisy, outdated, and lacking in hospitality. A warm welcome and some basic courtesy would have gone a long way, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t there.
