The property was located on a private island, but it was not indicated on the description at the time of booking or reservations. So we had no idea. There was no Instructions on where to check-in because we couldn’t find the hotel. We later found out we had to take a ferry to the resort. The staff at the sister hotel (Opal) was very unfriendly and seems reluctant to help and provide additional instructions. It was our first time visiting Key West. Besides the difficult checkin process the resort was beautiful and stay was nice.
Did not get the room I thought I reserved ....was told I would have direct access out door of room ....ocean view but access difficult to a shore with mostly shell ...was told I was reserving a room in front of sandy beach With chaise and umbrella coverings ...

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Nearly perfect
Beautiful clean grounds. Friendly service. Excellent restaurant. A lower priced, casual bistro would have kept us on the island every night
Cottage could use a little updating: more comfortable TV room furniture, cleaned up grout in bathrooms, repaint of kitchen cabinets. It would be nice to have a smartTV so that we could use our Netflix or other streaming services
It is a really nice hotel but it is overpriced. Price too high compared with the value, this was our feeling.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!
AWFUL EXPERIENCE!! This is what you get for $1,200 a night:
1. Room is not ready at check in time. Resort response was there is only one person doing everything and she will get to the room when she can.
2. Room was dirty even having to wait the extra time. Dead bug on toilet paper roll, hair on toilet and scum in the shower.
3. Did room service and over 12 hours later no one came back to pick up trash despite at least two staff walking by it to drop if evening and morning items.
4. Since room was not ready until late I thought a late check out was reasonable but seemed to be an inconvenience for then. Was told 12:00 was best they could do.
5. I’ve never had a resort call and ask what time I am leaving the room until now. So concierge calls at 10:00 and wants to know what time we are leaving room and what boat we are taking to leave. I said I have to book a boat ride and he said he just wants to know when housekeeping can get in the room??!! Then tells me the porters are too busy at 11:00 to handle our bags.
6. My wife ordered a steak salad. She took a bite and said it tasted like fish. She turned it over and small pieces of fish were on the steak. So that was thrown away.
Spend half this amount in Key West for a far superior experience. I’ve had better service at $150 hotels!
Beautiful resort with lovely accommodations and views. Only hiccup was not being met by the representative at the dock which left us unclear about where to go and what to do for check-in.
We had an amazing stay at the Sunset Key Cottages. It's the perfect escape on a small island with wonderful food and great staff. We would spend the day running around Key West and all the sights and sounds and retreat to what felt like our private island cottage. Really wonderful experience. We can't wait to come back.
Stunning property in an island off Key West, FL. Accommodation is in independent cottages, most with Ocean views and direct access to beach. Cottages come with living room, kitchen, dining area. Ours had 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Furnished like a home. We felt very much at home here. This place is pricey. We have stayed in pricier places both in US and away, but this is so much value for money. We did not use too many amenities. Spa is not open for too long. The restaurant however is very nice. The boat to mainland runs like a clockwork every half hour.
We will visit again.
I can't imagine returning to Key West and not staying at Sunset Key. What an amazing experience. The perfect place to stay. Five minute boat ride from Duval Street and yet miles away from the craziness of Key West. Such a great place to relax and watch the beautiful sunsets.
Issues checking into our room but very grateful to staff on accommodating our needs while waiting for room to be ready in order to help avoid missing our planned event that evening.
