Mackenzie Motel was lovely. You would not necessarily guess from the outside but once you enter, you can’t help but be made to feel at home. The design, amenities, private porch area and little courtyard are very cute. Nice to have the refrigerator and the little candy treats. Beds very comfortable and price just right. Also a quiet little town perfect as a stopover on our way to Christchurch,

I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I do just want to recommend to anyone looking to stay here, it would be very worth it to upgrade to one of the main rooms rather than the budget friendly backpacker "cabin". The unit is basically a large metal box, so if you have anyone staying next to you, you will hear (and feel) everything they do. Any time one of my neighbors moved, closed a door, or sneezed, my unit shook. All that being said, I would still recommend staying here for the location and facilities - it is a lovely little motel, I just had a bad experience in my particular unit :)

Very clean, huge bed, kitchen well equipped with plenty of fruit, breakfast serial, milk, salt/pepper etc. Unfortunately practically all shops closed after 4/5 PM (bakery reopens at 6am)

Absolutely lovely. Extremely clean and new owner is lovely and has refreshed the place, the photos are out of date and the place is even nicer than the photos show. The family suite comes with a fully equipped kitchen including oven and hob which was an unexpected bonus. Would recommend, shame we didn’t stay longer as we had a very comfortable stay.
