History

Rustic and historic. That’s what you’re booking. This place is in original condition and prides itself on it. There was a place in time where a facility such as this existed but has long disappeared because of technology and amenities. You are booking an experience not an amenity. This place is a destination within itself. Kudos for the owner’s belief that people will party for the experience. Rooms are clean, bed is clean but sparse. Again you’re there for the history. Don’t change a thing. Don’t you draw.

Historic building very old and without glamour, staff super friendly and helpful. Place is clean but pipes are old and shower clogged.

The staff was very warm and helpful. Our room was clean, good beds, clean towels and bedding. No TV. Spotty internet, but I think that is due to remote location. Old plumbing (very old.) The desk was manned 8-8, but often unattended. No food there, no coffee available til staff arrives at 8. This is a place with a beloved history that the local fans keep alive. But the property was run down. The hall was especially dank, carpet bad. The tour of the Opera house is supposed to be very worthwhile, according to other guests, but we could not attend. The hotel is 30min from the Death Valley entrance.

No dining nearby. Old, run-down, peeling paint and loose plaster, sewage smell, room pictures were deceiving, shower was just a trickle with inconsistent hot water. Some electrical outlets looked incomplete. The bed was fine.

This is an historical property trying to stay afloat. If you like an isolated, quiet, off-the-grid experience, this is for you. Tours of the Opera House twice a day were interesting. The dark night sky was a bonus!

This property was poorly advertised. They advertised dining on site and WiFi. Neither were available or working. The property was disgusting, run down and so dirty that I wouldn’t even shower. The plumbing was so poor they have signs everywhere to be careful. The locks were very flimsy and not safe.

More neglect than charm

Stayed over after ending our day in Death Valley NP. The staff seem to do the best they possibly can with this aging property. The check in was friendly. The room was as clean as it could be. The place likely had a charming rundown vibe going for it in 1966, but it has reached a further state of decline that replaces the charm with something closer to neglect. The property has a little museum display across the street for something that happened in 2018 for a dancer. There are other plaques from 1988 marking the history. So it clearly was a pet project for some boomer(s). They either need to seriously invest in upgrading some part of the property so that the stucco walls don't cave and the tile in the bathrooms isn't coming up; or they need to say farewell and end it all.

Awesome place so much history, staff was wonderful, facilities old but clean. The 2023 Hillary floods hit the whole area hard and they are still recovering.

The room itself was clean enough, but there was a terrible smell in the hall way. Also, there was no staff in between 8pm to 8am next morning. Of course there was no morning coffee service until 8 am. Considering that, the price is way too high.

Older property but it was well maintained. We really enjoyed our stay. Close to Nevada Border so we were able to get gas much cheaper and The Long Street Casino had a good restaurant. The hotel was not too far from Death Valley National Park. It was perfect for us.

Advertised internet. Did not work. Just very old and tired. Only hotel available in the area, so they could charge a lot but we got very little. If you’re desperate, the bed was great and the bedding was great.

The opera house is very interesting and nice to see but it needs updating badly. The room we stayed in had peeling paint on the ceiling and the shower had cracked tiles. It is very old and the hot water took forever to get to the shower. Then the faucet was broken so it dripped all night. The owner was very nice, though.

I only booked this place because it was the closest to Death Valley National Park. If you don't need to be close, I recommend Pahrump, NV.
