The bed was not clean and basic hygiene standards were not maintained. There were many hairs on the bed, which clearly indicates that the bed was not properly clean.

It makes me sad to say this because I love the idea of Amargosa, and we have stayed here before (6 years ago), but this place has deteriorated and should not be rented anymore. The plumbing does not work (water took an hour to heat up before we could shower, and my parents' toilet did not work). The staff knows about both issues, but were dismissive, just saying "it's 100 years old" and telling my parents they had to walk down the hall to use the restroom, which is unreasonable. The carpets were so dirty and smelled badly. This place needs a serious renovation, and if they can't do that, they need to close this place.

Good location. Very friendly and helpful staff. The topography poses a problem as the ground water in the winter rises because the valley is far below, sea level. This creates a very muddy encounter in the middle of death Valley. Glad the hotel was there, history very interesting. Beautiful setting.

It’s a historic building on the National registry. When planning your visit you need to be aware of this. The building is over 100 years old, and subject to the extreme desert conditions. We found it charming. The room and bathroom was very clean, the bed was comfortable and the sheets were great. The only downside was that we arrived after a flooding and in the common area was a musty smell, but not in the room. The employees were very friendly and very informative! We were unable to take a tour of the opera house; however, my relatives had and recommended it, which we plan to do on our next trip there.

The place is exceptional, with an interesting history. Unfortunately the building is in very bad conditions, it gets flooded during heavy rains and it badly needs some basic maintenance works. We still liked our stay because of a kind welcome, very nice people at the reception and the unique history of the place (we took a guided tour to visit the theater). The twe queen room was spacious enough for a couple with two kids. Besides, the position is very close to the Death Valley park. So we recommend it to those tourists who are not afraid of its run-down appereance.

This is a historic remote property 100 yrs old with rich history. It is a struggle to maintain and a rich benefactor would help. Unique murals painted on walls.Recent downpour rain caused flooding in and around area. It is an experience and cannot be judged like others. The staff on duty very helpful, polite, and knowledgeable.

It’s important to know before you go that Death Valley Junction is essentially a ghost town. There are no stores, gas stations or restaurants in the immediate area. The hotel is a fascinating location and the story of Marta Becket is inspiring for artists. I have to grade the property on a curve: as an historic property it’s amazing. It is not, however, a modern hotel, so don’t expect much in the way of amenities. The building and the plumbing are over 100 years old, there are no phones or televisions in the rooms, and cell phone reception is nonexistent. The hotel does have WiFi, so you won’t be totally disconnected. I ultimately really enjoyed my stay, but it’s important to know what you’re getting yourself into. Also, ours was supposedly the most haunted room in the hotel, but alas we didn’t have any paranormal encounters.

The building is proud of its history. The staff lovely. Facilities very poor. Shared microwave and toaster in dirty area. Shared dirty fridge. Big ice machine. No washing up facilities. 15 mins wait for hot water...but is plentiful when it comes. Noisy air con. Bring all your own food and dishes as none available. Bed comfy. No tv in room. Wifi worked but slow at times. To be fair its the cheapest place to stay so on that basis I would return. Outside very dusty but is a desert!

dont expect too much as it is just motel. However, it is not just a motel. It is a motel with long history. I believe the motel preserved its core architecture since then, and you can imagine the pioneers one hundred years ago stay at the same place, looking at the same sky as you. The staff is great as well.
