Not bad, but not great.

The room was basic as expected, good air conditioning and fan, the bed had seen better days and sheets were ropey. Good shower and bathroom was clean. Nice to sit on the roof terrace and watch the sun go down. The young lady who was on reception when we arrived was nice and helpful, there was another woman who made the breakfast and monitored the door at night who was pretty miserable and not overly polite. All in all not too bad for the money and the location is great being one block behind the Trinidad square.

WORST HOTEL SERVICE EVER

DO NOT stay at this hotel, don't be fooled by some of the old reviews, they must have changed owners or something. There are many others around for similar prices with much better service and cleanliness. During my two month stay in Cartagena I stayed in many hotels in the old town and getsemani. This was by far the WORST experience. I checked in to find that the room was disgusting and not at all what it looked like on the pictures, it was also very noises and the neighbourhood outside looked dangerous. We asked to cancel our booking and were assured by the receptionist it was no problem and we would not be charged. A week later I checked my transaction history to find they had charged me the full amount for my stay. I went into the hotel with my Spanish speaking girlfriend to ask about what had happened and the receptionist was very unhelpful saying that they had a policy of no refunds, even though we had previously been told by a member of their staff that we would not be charged. My girlfriend talked to the owner who was extremely abusive and began shouting at her saying they wouldn't give us any money. He also insulted her numerous times, we are both in out early 20s but he was calling her a stupid child and showing us no respect whatsoever. Overall a terrible experience, would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Good for a night or two, noisy streets

El Pedregal: Good A/C, but turn the refrigerator off if you don't need it, since it produces a lot of heat. Decent roof and view of the sky. Can't quite see the ocean, but you'll see most of a good sunset if you're up there. Comfy bed. As others have reviewed, it can be noisy. On our Wednesday night, the music (loud bass which your can hear even through earplugs) ceased about 11:30 at night and then started again around 7am. I'd never stay here on a weekend or holiday, and a someone else noted, the street might even have a surprise birthday party to keep you awake. Finally, the TOILET PAPER REPORT: A bit rough, but thick enough you don't need to wad up an excessive amount: 7/10 for the toilet paper.

No English spoken, may be a new owner at this point. You are locked in during stay and even though there is someone usually there to let you out (and in) it made me uncomfortable. Area outside door consisted of several men hanging out, drinking, fighting, etc. It was within walking distance to several interesting plazas and the Old City.

Great location

Stayed two nights. Hotel is only one block from Trinidad Square, a place to hang out and dine in the evenings. Owner and staff were very nice. A/C and ceiling fun worked nice. The only negative: The hotel did not clean the room nor exchanged towel. No breakfast included.

VERY LOUD but otherwise fine

I stayed here for a week while traveling with friends (all in our late 20s). This hotel is fine for the young budget traveler. The owner is very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were basic but adequate. The hotel is in a young neighbourhood where the locals and backpackers like to party. This is cool but be warned....it is VERY LOUD. The hotel has no glass on the windows, only shutters which do zero to block sound. On Saturday night the street party went on until 6:30am and even with ear plugs no one I was with got any sleep. Don't expect to be able to sleep in either. Everything on the street sounds like it's in your room. Oh and you're not allowed guests. Ever.

Good value in a vibrant neighbourhood.

Getsemani used to be considered down at heel and not so safe. The neighbourhood is experiencing gentrification and is very popular with young travellers, locals and salsa club goers. Although I am not in those categories, it was a pleasant place to stay. Guests are offered limited use of the kitchen for coffee and loan of plates and cutlery. The rooms have high ceilings, thick walls and comfortable mattress.

Disappointing stay in Cartegena.

We were very disappointed. The room was run down. No other people were staying there. We were happy to leave first thing in the morning. I thought Expedia had higher standards when posting reviews.

Small comfortable place in the old town.

Lovely feel to the hotel run by Patricia. Rooftop terrace with views over the old city & part of the harbour. A colony of pelicans, mixed herons & cormorants opposite with vultures & frigate birds overhead- heaven for a birdwatcher. Really handy for the walled city, bars & breakfast spots. A secure feel with someone always at the entrance which was handy for our kids (30 somethings) returning in the wee small hours. Air conditioning was on tap but just a sheet with the window open was surreal in January. We were unfortunate to have a bag stolen in a coffee shop - passport, credit cards, money etc. Patricia was superb, helping us with police reports, reporting stolen cards & passport etc. She made a very stressful time much easier- muchos gracias Patricia.

Decent hotel in the Getsemani neighborhood

We enjoyed our stay at the El Pedregal hotel. It is located in the dynamic area of Getsemani and five minutes walk away from the historical Centro area.

A safe, comfortable and affordable hotel.

Hotel was in a neighboring location to the walled city. Excellent location and best value for the money. Owner is incredibly conscientious about security and very friendly. The neighborhood had its own character and social life. I always felt very safe. If you have a sense of adventure, this is a great location. Obviously it is not a 4 of 5 star hotel, but in my opinion, the best value for the money. Several neighborhood bars and Salsa bars very close by.
