Family Friendly Yosemite National Park Hotels

Is not camping one of the most fun ways to travel around, especially when bringing your canine buddy? Spend the day in nature with your pets and relax afterwards at the campground in the beautiful Yosemite National Park.

Bringing your pet to Yosemite National Park (CA)

When travelling to Yosemite National Park with your pet, you are probably thinking of long walks through nature and playing with your pet in the sun, take a dip in one of the lakes, or admire Yosemite or Vernal Falls. However, keep in mind that there are rules and regulations in place to protect both your pet as well as the local nature and wildlife. For example, pets must be leashed, you have to clean up after them, and they are not allowed in all areas of Yosemite National Park.

Our four-legged friends are allowed in developed areas, on fully paved roads, sidewalks, bicycle paths, and campgrounds, with the exception of group and walk-in campgrounds. Pay attention to signs, there may be more exceptions. In case you want to go hiking with your pet, know that they are allowed on the Wawona Meadow Loop.

Besides that, there are a few additional places in Yosemite National Park where it is perfectly fine to bring your pet with you. These places are unsigned and not nearly as much visited as other parts of the park. In Wawona, this includes Chowchilla Mountain Road, Four Mile, and Eleven Mile fire roads.

In Hodgdon Meadow, you can walk Carlon Road from the trailhead to Hodgdon Meadow and on the Old Big Oak Flat Road from Hodgdon Meadow to Tuolumne Grove Parking Lot. In case you want to experience parts of Yosemite National Park where your pet is not allowed, there is a dog kennel in Yosemite Valley. It is open from approximately late May until early September.
