Walk or drive down to Matheson Lake, a very popular spot to swim with various hiking paths. The Galloping Goose Trail is just a few more steps. Ride your bike to the Metchosin town core, Roche Cove, Sooke, or as far as historic Leechtown. Enjoy a country meal at My Chosen Cafe or order in from their pizza kitchen, the best pizza in town!
Pedder Bay Marina is a great spot to grab a Starbucks coffee and stroll along the docks where you will see a variety of birds and sea life. Rent a power boat or kayak and explore the beautiful and clam bay.
During the summer (non-burning) season, guests are welcome to use our propane fire pit. We provide one propane tank at the start of your stay; however, we’re not able to provide unlimited propane. If you plan to use the fire pit frequently, additional propane can be obtained by exchanging the tank at the nearby corner store or by bringing your own. **IMPORTANT- We ask all guests to ensure that they have trip cancellation and extended health coverage at the time of booking. Refund requests outside our cancellation policy for personal health reasons and unexpected weather events (that may cause road closures or other delays) such as: snow storms, flooding, forest fires, power outages, ferry cancellations, etc. will not be given. Thank you for understanding why we these cancellation policies in place for our small business.

Bit of a delay with our review as I caught covid on the plane back home - stop coughing all over everything people!!Amanda and Dave have a lovely spot at the top of the hill surrounded by big trees. Their two dogs, Buddy and Sidney are so friendly and love belly rubs.Our check-in was smooth and Dave greeted us on our arrival, we met Amanda later. They are gracious and helpful hosts, answering any questions we had, recommendations or just having a chat.The condo is on the upper floor of their house with a private entrance. Well equipped kitchen, plenty of space for the three of us to spread out, games available, comfy couch and great chair for reading. Never once turned on the TV - much preferred to enjoy the quiet and the birds.There is a great back deck with sitting area but it was pretty wet when we were there so couldn't really use the area. The bedrooms are bright and lots of storage space, beds are a bit soft (but that is just our preference) but comfy.There is also a hot tub for guest use and it was fantastic in the evenings after getting back from hiking or a long day exploring. The Matheson Lake rec area is pretty close and has hiking trails - the left side gets pretty steep and rocky (careful of how slick it is in the rain!) but the views are worth it. Galloping goose trail is off the parking lot to the back on the right side if you prefer a smooth groomed wide trail.Thanks Amanda and Dave for a lovely week - we really enjoyed ourselves!

The Guest House and general property all around was charming and very well kept. There is a surprise for guests as they drive up the long gravel path to the guest property. I will not divulge it, because the surprise is fun. The kitchen was fine for cooking. There are lots of small appliances hidden away in the cupboards so be sure to check. The rooms were comfortable, and we made use of the sofa couch. There is one bathroom. The balcony chairs and table were lovey with a tranquil view. We made use of the barbeque and enjoyed drinks and conversation on the balcony. We did not have time for the hot tub, but I am sure it was lovely and they were very clear in their instructions on being sure to shower first before using. Amanda answered any questions right away and was very helpful. The property is a little isolated but in fact close to many places of interest. We visited many spots along the coast around Sooke and beyond and also picnicked and waded at the Potholes. There are many hiking places all around. The water was already a little cool for us in mid-September, but I imagine there are many good places to swim in the warmth of summer. It was enjoyable to come back to the guest house after a long day. I could tell the hosts work very hard to keep up the property but were very friendly when we met them. I loved seeing all their workshops, curious art works and antiques around the property. There is tasteful art inside as well. All in all, we had a wonderful stay.

We were part of a family gathering that included parents and four grown children. Mom and Dad were in "Cozy Cabin Getaway", while we stayed up the hill in the "Guest House". We really enjoyed the proximity of the cabin for meals and hot tubbing, but then enjoyed the fact that our accommodations were separate. We would highly recommend booking both properties. Matheson Lake Park offers hiking trails as well as swimming, and it is only a short walk away. We also went salmon fishing in Sooke, and enjoyed a fish fry down at Mom and Dad's cabin. The acreage is off the beaten path, but that just makes it more inviting. Dave and Amanda were great, but their pups, Sidney and Buddy were even greater. We highly recommend the property(ies).

Thank you Amanda and Dave! We loved our time at the house! It was a perfect way to relax and recharge being surrounded by the trees. We were able to swim and hike at Matheson Lake and explore the Juan de Fuca beaches. It is also super close to the galloping goose trail for amazing bike rides for the family. We loved every detail in the home, it has a fully stocked kitchen for making meals at home. We highly recommend it.

Lake Matheson Mystic

Our family of 4 adults and our dog enjoyed a wonderful stay with Ananda & Dave. They were terrific hosts, very accommodating. Their 2 bedroom property is well layed out and very well stocked with the essentials. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. We used the hot tub, hiked around the lake and cooked some terrific meals. I would recommend this very unique property to anyone. Thank you Amanda and Dave.
