This hotel needs serious update. I still cant believe that it actually carries BestWestern name. I travel often, and old hotels are not a problem, but things like, dirty bathroom, filthy carpets, broken shower are really not acceptable for a 3 star hotel. I guess I was stupid enough not to read other reviews. Also note that no internet access was available.
One of the worst in Italy I've ever had. The room was old and the wall was falling apart. The shower floor was cracked. It smelled like the nasty restaurant downstairs. Even after we complained and got an upgraded room, the problems continued. The entire hotel had no hot water for several hours and the room was still dirty. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
Location of hotel is outstanding - right off of the main square (St. Marks, Basilica, Doge's Palace) and within easy walking distance of Rialto Bridge and multiple water transportation options. Only downside to hotel was street noise (pedestrians and revelers) that extended well into the night. A higher floor (we were on the first floor) might mitigate this negative. All in all - WELL worth the money. [...]
front desk nasty and unhelpful
I didn't have a good experience here. While the location is fantastic, our room smelled terrible. We should have asked to be moved, but didn't because we thought the smell would go away. (We thought the room must have been shut up.) By our second night, it smelled so bad that it woke my mom up in the night. We were checking our early the next day, so we didn't raise the issue with staff. I regret that, because the hotel room really colored our view of Venice. I booked this hotel because of its location and price. I thought the price was low for a hotel right off San Marco square. I think the price must have been so good because the hotel was dingy.
My friend of some twenty years and I are both widows now and both in our 60's--this was her first trip to Venice. While other hotels are more atmospheric and Venetian, this one is an easy walk to the vaporetti, Basilica, & Doge's Palace; it's easy to locate and has an elevator. One room w/ 2 twin beds cost 240 USD + tax; most other moderate hotels started at 240 Euro for a single, so at today's exchange rate the price was excellent. The room was quite ordinary, but the bathroom was clean & the beds firm. Reception staff was attentive, considerate and knowledgeable. Breakfast (included in the price) was a nice cold buffet spread in the adjoining restaurant, which serves the public beginning at lunch time.
Hotel is less than one block off St. Marks Square. Room was normal size for European hotel room. Air conditioning worked great. But there was a constant unpleasant smell. Breakfast was typical continental (rolls, canned fruit, etc.).
Hotel is in great location, staff was very friendly, breakfast was great, room was European small but very clean and adequate - room was on canal - smell was bad - spoke with staff, they sprayed the room during the day but the smell did linger
different that thew USA but OK
Got room 106, it had a HORRIBLE odor. Tried to tough it out, but it was so bad we could not sleep. When we brought it up to the front desk in the morning they were very quick to put us in a different room...almost as if they expected it. Even the maid gave us a sympathetic look as she waved her hand in front of her nose! Recommend stay somewhere else unless you can't afford to. It was cheap for Venice.
Fabulous location right off St marco square and close to the water taxis on the grand canal. Center of shopping district. The rooms were old and outdated and the free breakfast was horrible but considering the price and location I would definitely stay there again. We had a 2 bedroom room which was perfect for a family.
When we checked in we were told we had a room on the first floor. The windows opened onto a dingy and dark square of other rooms above a very dirty roof. We also had troule with the lock on our door. It either wouldn't lock securely or if we succeeded in getting it locked, it was extremely difficult to unlock. We asked to be moved to a different room and we were told that wasn't possible until the next day since the hotel was completely booked. The next morning, we were moved to the third floor and we were very happy with the move. Now our windows opened onto a small street. We had lots of light and fresh air with the windows open and no problems with the lock. If you are assigned to a first floor room, immediately ask to move to a higher floor. The hotel staff was very helpful with questions and directions.
