IT IS DIFFICULT TO GET TO THIS HOTEL WITH LUGGAGE AS ALTHOUGH IT IS ONLY ABOUT 3 MINUTES FROM PL. DE ROME FIRST ONE NEEDS A MAP WHICH SHOULD BE ON LINE AND SECOND THERE ARE MANY STEPS TO NEGOTIATE. WE WERE OBLIGED TO LOOK FOR A PORTER OURSELVES. THE HOTEL IS UPDATED BUT THE BATHROOM WAS VERY POKEY AND FURNITURE JUNKY. LITTLE STORAGE. I DO NOT CONSIDER THIS A LUXURY ROOM. MOST STAFF WERE HELPFUL.

Clean room with friendly staff. Helpful giving directions and tips for the city.

Good location, very expensive for what you receive. We spent a lot of time killing Mosquitos in the room but that might be all of Venice

The hotel met my expectations. The location was nice right near the Grand Canal and Train station. The morning breakfast was nice. I would stay there again.

We are a family of 5. We got two rooms and spent one night there. The rooms were decorated beautifully, comfortable, large and the bathrooms were fully renovated. We got there early in the morning and they saved our luggage until the rooms were ready. The guy at the reception was the nicest most welcoming person. In the evening and the next morning the person at the reception was a woman and absolutely rude. We hated that this person was there to ruin people's experience of this really nice hotel. Breakfast was good at their beautiful dining room. We absolutely LOVED this place!!!! ( even though they would be better off without the rude woman at the front desk). If you want to experience Venice while feeling like you are staying at an old palace, this is your place. It is also a couple of minutes away from the train station.

It was a lovely experience. Excellent location. Great breakfast.

The hotel is not beautiful, but for the time we spent in the actual room, it's worth your money. You cannot beat the location, it's directly accross the train station. Right off the station, make a right take the first bridge, and your should be able to see it. Don't pay a taxis, just carry your luggage and walk less than five minutes.

The location is literally across from the train station, do not take a taxis - just walk less than 5 min. You can see the hotel from the train station. My husband and I came to venice 7/16/2014 and ended up staying three days here at the Gardena Hotel. We decided to stay here because the price was fair for such an expensive city. Although the hotel could use some TLC, for the time we spent in the room, it was the best decision. We decided to use the savings of a fancy hotel discovering Venice. The breakfast is really not the best, but is "free". The room was clean and so was the bathroom. The location is quite and walking distance from just about everything. We were very happy with the location. Also, the air conditioner is in poor working condition. Most of the time you won't even feel is on. You will need to open the window to get some air. As for transposition, just buy the City Pass and take the city Gondolas and enjoy the island at a very affordable price. Also, if you need a break from the hundreds of tourist, stop at the St. Elena island. It's so beautiful and peaceful. Take a towel and sit and enjoy the fresh lawn, park, and enjoy the beautiful views. One more thing, Venice is NOT for families with children who need strollers. You will have such a difficult time maneuvering the strollers. Keep in mind that Venice has hundreds of steps and you go up and down the bridges so often that you will wish you never came. Leave the children at home or bring a nanny to stay at the room with the children.

This was very well located. Close to the bus station and the. train station. It was right off the grand canal on a small local canal(street). We were able to walk to all parts of the city from there. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Beautiful old hotel with nice rooms. Good breakfast good location right across canal from train station

We spent a day in Venice waiting to board a cruise ship, the hotel was close to all tourist attractions. What I thought was missing was the hospitality, we were Ignored at the hotel by rude reception staff. Our last trip was in Feb this year to Phuket and stayed at the Millenium hotel Patong, that was a wonderful experience, they pais particular attention to detail. We seem to have had to put up with an array of poor service in hotels.

we had a great time at this hotel. Close to Grand Canal and great restaurants. [...] at the front desk was very helpful and such a nice man. Breakfast was included and it was delicious. Would definately stay in this hotel again.

After choosing the Gardena hotel because of its location, charm, and the reviews I had read, and after walking over 2 bridges carrying suitcases packed for a three-week cruise, we arrived at the hotel only to find they didn't have our room. Even though I had my reservation sheet, they said they didn't have a reservation and sent us to their sister hotel which was 2 more bridges away (one being 100 steps, again with suitcases). They kept saying we were going to a 4-star instead of a 3-star but I had chosen them for specific reasons! The one they sent us to (Principe) was nice, in a good location, great breakfast included, warm room (which was good). But to start the vacation that way, with no help to get us to the other hotel after a night of flying was most difficult and frustrating. The ratings given in this review are for the Principe. I would not book with Gardena again.
