Nice little hotel
The good: The hotel itself, GREAT! I had room 607 and it was very clean, stocked really well with towels and toiletries. A very comfortable bed with a very detailed guide book on the hotel and the area with things to do and recommendations, no complaints. Right at the entrance of Chinatown and walking distance to public transportation like bus stops and the skytrain just a few blocks over. About a 8 min walk to Gastown which is a very popular area for shopping, bars, and restaurants. The bad: I hate to discredit the hotel because of the area, but the area is just BAD. The homeless population is out of control and unfortunately, it’s slow progress and the amount of transients doing drugs right outside the hotel makes it feel unsafe. Granted, they never once bothered us and they minded their own business, but the area itself doesn’t make it feel safe to walk at night because of how many there are. Unfortunately, the street right behind the hotel is like a congregation area for them and it’s very prominent at night.

Not the type property I would have selected, however convention was in town and many properties were full or has jacked up their rates. Check in was excellent and location convenient to Rogers Arena.
Location was close to Chinatown; area seemed rough but hotel and parking were very secure. Great service. Small, boutique-still hotel with surprisingly large guest rooms. No gym or guest laundry, but had a cappuccino machine that was nice (only available during breakfast hours though they did offer coffee throughout the day).
We loved staying here! A beautiful place and it feels wonderful to support first nation artists in their work. Just one block from China town and many restaurants very near. Our room was beautiful and the whole feel of this place was very special. We would definitely visit again.
This was a very pleasant stay the staff was amazing and helpful from where to park to where the best places to eat are. Would definitely stay again plus really close to Gastown. 100% HAPPY!
I really enjoyed the breakfast, but the daily cleaning was not the best. As we stayed for 4 days, I would have expected the shower floor towel to be changed and maybe some of the coffees to be restocked. Overall, it was clean, but not consistent. The worst part of the experience was the neighborhood. The area around the hotel appears to have a lot of homelessness and drug addicts. I would probably not stay near Gastown in Vancouver. If I were to return, I would stay near the center.
The art/deco at he hotel was refreshing. The neighborhood was a bit quirky but the staff ensured we felt safe and comfortable.
This is a quaint hotel with a "First Nation" theme in downtown Vancouver - near the gaslight district, but maybe not technically in it. Some parts of the neighborhood are not great, but easy walking distance to lots of nice restaurants and bars. The free continental breakfast is very good, but ask and you can also order eggs, etc. - didn't realize that until the last day of our stay. The staff was so accommodating - couldn't have asked for more!
Stayed at Skwachays lodge this past weekend, we stayed for two nights. The staff was very friendly and attentive, the gentleman at the front desk even let us use his computer for some business we had to attend to. Each room is decorated differently, which just adds to the unique interior design of the hotel. Not to mention there is a gallery located on the 1st floor! Free breakfast, which was pretty good. Overall a great stay.
In room 605 and it was NOT as nice as the stay we had a week earlier in room 507. I booked the same type of room thru Orbitz. Second room was smaller, had no room to work on laptop, poorly lit, hard to adjust heat, small bathroom that had some maintenance issues. This room was NOT worth what we paid for it, which was the same as the nicer room 507. On both occasions we could only extend checkout to 12pm, even though on first stay, we did not get checked in until 4am that morning and were not leaving on train until 8:30pm that evening.
Great after hours service from Jaz. Very Clean and decent light breakfast. A bit pricey and the area is a bit sketchy as lots of panhandlers on street. But that is true of several city blocks around this area.
The Lodge was within walking distance to a lot of things. We were in the Spirit Forest Room. We LOVED the design and effort they put in to make each room unique. The bed and pillows were both very comfortable. There was a separate entrance that required the room key that allowed you to bypass the front desk. This gave us a more homey feel and allowed us to come and go more freely as we need shopping near by.
We had an outstanding stay at Skwachays Lodge. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. I cannot say enough about the breakfast that is included in your stay. The homemade breads and baked goods are fantastic and vary from day to day. In addition, there is fresh fruit, homemade yogurt and fruit cups, and complimentary tea and coffee all day and evening. The complimentary shampoo, lotions, etc in the room are amazing..locally made, organic, peppermint scented. We stayed here for seven nights and had a red eye out and the lodge stored out luggage for the final day until we left at 9 that night. Many people had written about the location of the hotel in previous reviews saying it was in a sketchy area, etc. The area is being revitalized but it is an excellent location in that it is a few blocks from Gastown and public transportation. I will be honest that there must be a shelter within two blocks of the hotel and there are several homeless people on the street. I NEVER felt unsafe; they never bothered me, approached me, or harassed me...they were just there. This may bother some people but I looked as unique scenery for one block until we got to Gastown. I hate that this is the case of the hotel because it truly is an amazing stay.
The personel was very kind, and very attentive. Everything was clean I the rooms had many commodities. I just had a problem with the room smelling a lot like Pot. We were in for just one night. And all of our luggage and clothes ended up smelling like marihuana for a whole week. I know it's difficult to control that, but either way we didn't like it. When we go to a new hotel room we want a clean smell. Not a saturated weed smell

Thank you for your review!
Thank you for staying and supporting us. I would like to thank you for being patient, as the hotel and concept of our building go into a new era. We do have very wonderful, staff and the artists in residence are fabulous. Unfortunately, we do have a few drug problems in the area. That too is slowly changing. Thank you again for taking the time to comment, it is very much appreciated.
