Stopped here for three nights whilst fishing the Twizel canals. Chilly weather at this time of year and we were greeted with a room in which the staff had put on the heater, nice touch and was not expected. Room was completely adequate with two double beds allowing 3 of us to stay in one room. Breakfast, buffet style and good selection of cereals, eggs, pastries etc. We had one evening dinner and decided upon the buffet for the choice of roasts available, lamb, pork and beef. The beef was amazing, broccoli perfectly cooked an all round good value great tasting meal. The bar area is great and the great thing about winter is that the open fire is on and you can add logs to suit. Made a great relaxing area to enjoy a wine whilst watching the main event, if there is one on the big screen. Friendly staff make up the all round package. I am also advised that the team there will look after your catch if you require.
We were mostly disappointed with out stay this time round. Our room was cold - despite having the heater going on full the whole time. There were electric blankets on the beds but the cords wouldn't reach the electrical sockets. The one electric blanket that plugged in didn't work. The bar lady was indifferent bordering on rude. Reception staff were great and the food was nice. Negatives outweighed the positives and don't think we will be back.
I stayed at the Mackenzie Country Inn for work and for the most part it was pretty enjoyable. The staff were nice, the restaurant was good (we had the buffet both nights and it was delicious), and everything was reasonably priced. The rooms are a bit dated and could do with a bit of a touch up, but other than that was pretty comfortable. My only gripe is that the heater in the room was super loud kept making noises so we couldn't have it on over night which resulted in a cold room.
A modest place to stay, dated, but in a nice way with large expansive rooms and decor. The rooms are warm and the beds comfortable. On the day, I stayed the food was terrible and a new chef was just finding his stripeds. But to their credit, the meals were refunded and a free beer offered. Breakfast buffet was average and not worth the $24, congealed baked beans, scrambled eggs clinging on for dear life and empty trays.
Our room was straight out of the 1980s . 2 double beds with very soft mattress, 2 lounge chairs with seating badly stained. I couldn't fit the jug under the tap in the bathroom. I thought my days of having a cold wet shower curtain slapping around my legs were well gone!!!! Their saving grace was the lovely staff in the restaurant. Oh and i must let you know that a 10 minute shower each is all that the hot water caters for in you room.
Easy booking in, friendly staff allowed us access early. Upstairs room with views to the partly snow clad mountains. As noted in some reviews, the motel is 'old school', but as we were only renting a night's accommodation and not moving in permanently we were happy with the large clean and comfortably furnished room. Although a large motel (109 rooms) the room was quiet. Good place to stay when travelling through Twizel (pronounced twhyzell).
Room upstairs had a lovely view. Bed comfortable and facilities clean. Lovely variety of food for breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful. Very central location for walking to town and for exploring the fantastic scenery in the McKenzie Basin.
Went with the April Red Carpets LotR Tour group, and it was a great experience. Excellent buffet dinner. Fireplace in the lobby / gathering area with seating. Supposedly nice area to watch the stars but alas it was cloudy that night.
STAFF WAS AMAZING, including the tail-less hotel cat JACK. Food very good. Jacquie in Bar awe some. Real wood fireplace homey. BUT... room was very tired, bed very soft, just clean enough....needs an update. plenty of hot water and towels good.
