This was a nice simple hotel to stay in. It has a Swiss Alps feel to it. The rooms are simple but cosy. I think it's cute they even have keys for the doors instead of modern swipe cards. it gives the hotel an old feel when the rest of the world has to be modernized. The evening buffet meal was also very generous in portion and choice of food.
we picked this hotel purely as a stop off location as we travelled across New Zealand. We were thankful we only stayed for one night. The room was clean but very dated and clearly requires some work to restore it. we visited in the winter so effective heating is essential. It would have been great had we chosen to stay in the bathroom. But the heater for the main room made a lot of noise but produced very little heat . Each bed had an electric blanket but only two out of the four worked. We ate in the restaurant and were very disappointed. It seemed to be geared up to expect everyone to eat the $38 buffet. Which for the variety of food offered was well overpriced. We opted for the a la carte menu? Having waited 40 mins for our food it suddenly appeared when i asked where it was. By the dryness of my chicken it had been under a heating element for some time... poor experience all over .
good old fashioned charm and very friendly service . The buffet dinner was the best and will be back for sure. Although slightly dated, was clean and comfortable. The dining area and fire place was very inviting and warm as toast. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
Our one night stop-over was great. The staff were friendly, the hotel was warm (there was snow outside) with free wifi. Our room was good with a comfortable bed. The restaurant was enjoyable, and the 'Bed & Breakfast' deal was worthwhile. We will be back!
My stay was perfectly acceptable but more than that, the really nice thing these guys did was post something I had left behind in my room back to my home address. No charges, no bother. So big ups to the room cleaner and the reception staff for great service.
Classic and old fashion hotel. Come with a positive attitude, this hotel offer a very classic feeling, the room is clean, got a bathtub, although bathroom need some work, and warmer need some work too. They also have a native cat living here, very cute cat. They also have a bar with a nice fireplace. And also, this hotel is also one of the hotel booked by lord of the ring crews when they filmed one of the scenes in the area around here
Stopped here for three nights whilst fishing the Twizel canals. Chilly weather at this time of year and we were greeted with a room in which the staff had put on the heater, nice touch and was not expected. Room was completely adequate with two double beds allowing 3 of us to stay in one room. Breakfast, buffet style and good selection of cereals, eggs, pastries etc. We had one evening dinner and decided upon the buffet for the choice of roasts available, lamb, pork and beef. The beef was amazing, broccoli perfectly cooked an all round good value great tasting meal. The bar area is great and the great thing about winter is that the open fire is on and you can add logs to suit. Made a great relaxing area to enjoy a wine whilst watching the main event, if there is one on the big screen. Friendly staff make up the all round package. I am also advised that the team there will look after your catch if you require.
We were mostly disappointed with out stay this time round. Our room was cold - despite having the heater going on full the whole time. There were electric blankets on the beds but the cords wouldn't reach the electrical sockets. The one electric blanket that plugged in didn't work. The bar lady was indifferent bordering on rude. Reception staff were great and the food was nice. Negatives outweighed the positives and don't think we will be back.
I stayed at the Mackenzie Country Inn for work and for the most part it was pretty enjoyable. The staff were nice, the restaurant was good (we had the buffet both nights and it was delicious), and everything was reasonably priced. The rooms are a bit dated and could do with a bit of a touch up, but other than that was pretty comfortable. My only gripe is that the heater in the room was super loud kept making noises so we couldn't have it on over night which resulted in a cold room.
A modest place to stay, dated, but in a nice way with large expansive rooms and decor. The rooms are warm and the beds comfortable. On the day, I stayed the food was terrible and a new chef was just finding his stripeds. But to their credit, the meals were refunded and a free beer offered. Breakfast buffet was average and not worth the $24, congealed baked beans, scrambled eggs clinging on for dear life and empty trays.
