Hotel Armitage and Conference Centre

I was fortunate enough to stay a night and a day over a festival in Tauranga and really enjoyed the Armitage. Relaxed friendly and professional. This is is a real nice place to have experienced on my journey through New Zealand. The chickpea curry is lovely! Thanks again guys.

Booked a room but was unable to stay so provided reason plus hospital documents to to pass on to the hotel. Reason for non refund was given below in the image which is perfectly fine but reply from management as an excuse to previous post was that not many info was given? Come on, standardize the reply.. I’m not expecting any professional or honest reply from the hotel for this post so I’d prefer if the management doesn’t reply lest it gives itself more excuses / reasons. Nz is a nice place with very very helpful locals (don’t get me wrong) but hotel management at Armitage clearly doesn’t demonstrate that and they can definitely improve on leaps and bounds.. Even if the hotel is nice or new, poor management can definitely ruin it, not forgetting that tourism is ultimately service oriented..

Rubbish worst ever.we were told the feedback was good.again rubbish .we saw people walking out without eating there food. got $50 refund.again wonder it's up for you should not shave meat so thin and then keep it warm all day. if you do roast potato please not par boil new potato then fry them . .

Loved the charming character of this hotel... pleasantly surprised stepping into the reception area to see leadlight glass, wood panelling and a grand piano! Reception desk staff very friendly. Elegant old wooden staircase sweeping up between the floors. (Lift available too of course.) Our twin room was comfortable and roomy enough and all you need for the night. Loved the balcony off the room, would have liked to use it more but the weather didn't oblige! Heaps of handy parking at the back. Can't understand the negative reviews re the age of the place... That to us was its charm!

I love the character of this hotel. Yes it has aged as it feels quite old, but that adds to the charm of the place. It has a good atmosphere with pleasant and helpful staff. Also own room were very clean. The ccar parking is handy as it’s out the back I definitely would stay there again.

Absolute joke and probably illegal if investigated by trading standards. Service, staff, entertainment, food, state of the hotel, all shocking !!. Paid $100 each for my daughter and myself and we where really looking forward to a nice Christmas dinner. We arrived at the service desk to be seated, the waitress was told by her manager to take us to table 4, the waitress was holding a map of the room and was looking puzzled as to the location of table 4 (there were 11 tables in the room) so I showed the waitress to the table as there was a big number 4 on it. It was at this point I thought here we go this is not going to go well, so we seated at the table that was set out for 10 people. I was kind of expecting our own table and not having to share with 8 total strangers ( as lovely as they were ). We ate our starters and then the waitress asked us if we could move along two seats so that a party of 4 people could sit together. We obliged as it was no big deal to us. The two people who took our seats had to sit down to a dirty table and the waitress did not clean or replace dirty cutlery after promising that she would, I felt terrible for them but they were determined to not let the situation spoil there day. The ice was broken between strangers and we all laughed and tried to make light of situation. Then, on came the entertainment, I mean no disrespect to the two enterainers but there act was as tired and depressing as the decor in the dining room. Oh well never mind the food will make up for all of that. Wrong, all of the food was cold or undercooked and bland, the deserts had obviously been bought from the local supermarket. I did feel sorry for the people eating at there tables as the huge crowd of people queing to get to the food brushed passed them and we're looking over there shoulders, very uncomfortable for everyone. I went to the bar and ordered two drinks totaling $12.50 and I gave the barlady a $20.00 note, she could not work out how much change to give me and had to consult with her bar manager who, after some consideration came up with the correct figure. All in all it was not a bad experience as my daughter and I were laughing at the total incompetence of all involved and it made me think of some of the sketches from faulty towers. I would like to urge holel armitage to seriously pick up there game as I know that you really spoiled Christmas day for some if not all of your guests. $100 per head is reasonable for a Christmas dinner but a Christmas dinner you did not deliver, shame on you.

Stepping into the reception area was enough for me to realise we were in trouble. The dated wooden clad walls screamed out “dated!” Within two minutes of getting to our room, my wife was in tears. I was determined not to stay in this room with cracked walls, mouldy mirrors and a hard, well worn bed. There was very little in the way of “nice” things to say about this place. We immediately looked for alternative accommodation, quite prepared to forgo the room charge, but there was not one hotel with any space in the entire area. Traveller beware! This is an overpriced dirty, dingy, dump!

In NZ, people are generally extremely helpful and understanding for victims of a car accident but not this hotel. I got into a car accident and was in the hospital thus no show for 3 hotels. All except armitage waived the fees. Their reason was: system showed room as no show thus they can’t refund. I thought it was the worst excuse ever. Other hotels and motels reversed the refund but asked to give 5 days for the refund to be reflected. I’m sure system can be updated or amended if they wanted to. It’s fine if they want to charge for the room but probably better to come up with a better excuse? Just a word of caution to others booking: read reviews carefully as it’s true when others said their service is poor.

Stayed here 1 night, Location brilliant easy to access by walking to restaurants pubs clubs and shopping and only 10 minutes to Mount Maunganui by car or 20 during peak hour. The hotel rooms are comfortable and spaces but slightly dated although this wouldn't stop me from staying here again as it had everything you wanted and you could easily relax in your room if you wanted. Rooms were clean and check in and out was very quick and staff very pleasant and helpful. Nice hotel to stay.

Stayed here with friends for one night while seeing family friends in Tauranga. We had two rooms next to each other. One room was fine but the other had a bed that was so short our friends feet fell off the bottom. We are not tall people (no taller than 5 foot 6) so I found this very unusual. The spa baths in the room were a nice touch and so was the Jacuzzi by the pool area. The hotel is very centrally located so easy to walk into the town centre or the water front. However, this is where the good things end. I was also extremely annoyed that when I made the payment through I was charged a 2% fee of using a credit card but I paid with a debit card. When I disputed this at check in they said there was nothing they could do as apparently it is assumed when you pay through a visa that it is a credit card not a debit card. I was not forewarned of this so the payment came out more expensive than what I had authorised through I pay frequently through and have never had the problem of paying with a debit card and being charged the surcharge that they charged me. The gentleman at reception was neither apologetic or willing to help - if this was my hotel I would've offered a refund for the 2% being charged or a drink as a sign of good faith. I think the property is expensive for what you get and the decor is outdated. I opted for a hotel but think a motel would've provided the same standard for half the price.
