Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable bed, good wifi, a/c works well. Mini bar in room so not much room for our things. We asked for kettle, cups & teabags for cuppa making and they were happy to provide these. A supermarket is only accross the road , we bought snacks & lunch makings from there (normal prices) , real fast was good and had pleasant variety. Very close to town and old town. Taxi stand is only a few steps from hotel (our taxi ride was only €35 instead of €200 that was quoted from a taxi in town!?) maybe this was a nice guy? We stayed two nights, I'm writing this review as the toilet has continued to flush through the night, I'll inform them later.
Overall we enjoyed our seven nights stay at the Hotel Bern. The staff were friendly, helpfull and obliging. The buffet breakfast was substantial and delicious. The hotel is in a great location close to the entry of the old town, all places of interest are within walking distance. A chemist and supermarket are located opposite the hotel. The bed, in the initial room we were allocated, was too soft / unsuitable for us. The next day the hotel relocated us another room on the third floor that was more comfortable.
This hotel is very close to the old town, which is easy walking distance. It's also walking distance to the ferry terminal and a short tram ride from the bus station. The supermarket over the road is very reasonable for last minute provisions. Upon first impressions this hotel seems to be a motel from the 1970s. There was a pub called 'beer garden' right outside our window. All these things did not bode well, however, the room was perfectly comfortable and clean. We weren't disturbed by noise overnight from the pub at all, and I am a light sleeper. The air conditioning worked and toiletries were nice, even including hair conditioner, which is often missed. The staff on reception were exceptional, so helpful. We were provided with any information we asked for, including a printout of ferry times to Helsinki. When they heard that we were leaving for the airport before 7am they immediately volunteered to provide us with a takeaway breakfast for that day. The breakfast was nice. The staff kept busy to keep the flow going. The fresh fruit salad had cinnamon on it which was unexpected. I forgot about this every morning! There wasn't a safe in the room.
The location of Hotel Bern cannot be beat. Just outside the edge of the gate to the Old Town, it is ideal for those wanting a hotel not quite in the midst of 24/7 activity. We had requested a wheelchair accessible room, which was adequate; with railings and shower. There was a slight off-putting odor which seemed to stem from the bathroom, which was a little bothersome. Breakfast was adequate. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. There is a grocery store right across the street, which we found very handy for snacks, beverages, and an occasional light supper. All in all, I would definitely stay here again.
The Hotel is located at the edge of the historic city center and very well accessible by public transport and taxi. The city centre is just a 5 minutes walk away and there are plenty of restaurant and bars around. Still the rooms are quiet. Our room had twin beds and was rather small. The beds were very soft, this may not be nice for everyone. The bathroom was also very small. Unfortunately the breakfast was no good offer, the choice is rather small and the coffee was unenjoyable. 3 Stars may be ok for this hotel, but the value for money does not seem to be ok to me.
Affordable, clean, basic hotel close to everything you want to see in old town. Good breakfast. Bathroom floor was always waving with water because the floor wasn't made properly. Fitted carpet in the room.
Fascinating visit to Medieval Tallinn. Hotel located in centre of old town, easy walking to all attractions in and around the old town and within easy walking distance of the ferry from Helsinki. Surprisingly good breakfast! very helpful staff and nice big room
We stayed just one night in Tallinn. The hotel has a good location, at the south side of the old town, easily walkable. The room was an adequate size. The breakfast was a pretty decent spread. The staff all seemed helpful. Whilst it is possible to walk from the harbour (maybe 15-20 mins), we decided to take Uber as we had quite a bit of luggage (cost was only 3 Euros). Don't bother trying to take the bus, public transport doesn't enter the old city so you end up walking quite a bit anyway. And with two people, it would be more than an Uber! In summary: good location, reasonable hotel for the price. Would stay here again.
The hotel was just fine but we had a problem with the booking that was the fault of hotels.com. While it was eventually sorted out, the staff was slow to grasp the situation and it took a couple of days before we got it all squared away. The location was very good and the breakfast was excellent.
The Hotel Bern is a very nice, smaller hotel with an ideal location on the edge of the Old City. The staff is friendly, plentiful breakfast options, solid wi-fi, and rooms comfortable. The rooms are well-maintained and appointed, although a bit dated. The location is the hotels primary draw and you are literally in the Old City to see the sights. One drawback is the hotel's courtyard, where many of the rooms overlook, is shared by a popular brew house. The crowd, especially on weekends, is quite noisy until closing at at dawn. You will need to have your windows shut and fan on to not be as disturbed if you are in a courtyard-facing room. Overall, nice hotel and good value.
