We only stayed 1 night but would definitely stay again, no noise issues ,close to all sorts of entertainment & 10% off a selected bars & restaurants, lots of stairs but there is a lift. The room was large & the beds comfy & clean.

Want to feel like you are in a historic quaint hotel mere steps from the waterfront, the ferries to all the ports and beaches, the oldest pubs, and nightly views of the bridge? Check out the Russell. While some may say 240 to 300 dollars Canadian a night is steep - it is not when compared to other area properties. We stayed 9 nights. We had a corner room under the tower. Large room. Cute as heck. Romantic. Fireplace - not that we needed it. 39 C heatwave. Though no AC the powerful ceiling fan kept us cool. Also, keep blinds closed during the day for cooler night temps. The shared restrooms - 2 per floor / share with 4 other rooms or so - were never an issue. 50% of the suites have their own loo so we never competed with anyone and the hotel was full for Mardi Gras (a must see / experience). Nice common area with computer for research etc as well as a small library. Cute rooftop common area with plants etc. VERY friendly helpful staff. Lots of helpful hints and recommendations. They kept our luggage for 2 weeks while we toured Australia. Our room had a fridge. The large wardrobe in the room was more than enough space for clothes and as we brought our own folding hangers, we had enough to hang our clothes. No laundry facilities but they did laundry done for average price. 3.5 minute walk to the ferry terminals. 8 minute walk to the Opera House. 5 minute walk to the train / transportation station. We liked the free breakfast downstairs in the pub, which had live music at least two nights a week. Before you say it, no, the rooms above the one bar were not too noisy - and not at all after 9 or so. The historic Fortune of War next door was a lot of fun and the staff seemed to love Canadians. Not sure if the rooms above that bar would be noisy but you should be there anyways - fun and lively crowd 7 days a week. Lots of coffee shops and restaurants on the main street out front. Checkout the weekend street market one block away. There are at least 12 cool pubs, including the oldest Irish pub in Sydney. Though it had an elevator it is not very accessible for persons with mobility issues - lots of stairs and nooks / crannies. Did not have a car so cannot comment. Right across the street from the hop on / off bus. For 60 bucks do it on your first day. Cabs always came in 5 minutes or less but take the train (5 minutes away) for 17 bucks vs up 100 to the airport - plus it is faster. One little thing - wish the street side windows could open for a cross breeze. Make sure to walk across the bridge in the AM and then sunset for awesome views! Take the ferries everywhere using the Opal Card. Best way to see the city without the traffic hands down.

This hotel is Within walking distance of circular quay by Sydney harbour, we was pleasantly surprised by how close to everything was to this hotel including within walking distance the train station! There are a number of great cafes, bars and restaurants nearby that you can enjoy a meal. The hotel has a lot of character to it due to its age and we enjoyed our stay there. The bed was very comfortable one of the best I have slept on in a long time. Excellent continental breakfast was included in the price. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I do recommend that when making a booking that you check to see if your room has air conditioning as not rooms come with air conditioning, our room had a ceiling fan only however this was sufficient for our needs for one night. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again in the future, one of its biggest benefits is as stated how close it is to all amenities on Sydney Harbour with in walking distance. Excellent!!

Eventually I am getting round to reviewing our holiday stays in Austrailia...we travelled there in November. We absolutely loved the Russell Hotel, so central, we couldnt believe how central, we literally walked off the train...straight out to Sydney bridge and Opera house...WOW. Then 5 mins walk to the hotel. Staff lovely and helpful. Loved the quirkiness of the rooms and layout. Great breakfast, nothing fancy but more than sufficient. Very clean. And the roof terrace was fabulous, we spent a lot of time up there on our own chillin with a wine in the lovely Aussie sun! Would definitely stay there again!!!

We selected this hotel due to the proximity of the harbour and based on its impressive feedback. We were not to be disappointed. Our room was spotlessly clean and really comfortable. We opted for a deluxe double with en suite. Nice touches include artisan soaps and shampoos. The rooms are beautiful and the hotel is located in the Rocks area, really central for exploring Sydney. Guests receive a 10% on food and beverage orders at The Push and the Fortune of War pubs. Stay here if you get the chance

Stayed here for 3 nights, a bit rowdy from bar noise on the Friday and Saturday night. Didn't realise it was a shared bathroom - had to wait on a few occasions, thank goodness for bathrobes. Free wifi and breakfast was good, nice sized room. Staff were exceptional and offered great tips and always asked how your day was. Checking in/out very easy, short walk to transport and cruise terminal.

The Staff were all very friendly and helpful. On arrival we were given a map and advised what we should do during our stay in Sydney. Our Room was tastefully decorated, comfortable and clean. We had a small bathroom en suite which was perfect for what we needed. The location of this Hotel is fantastic within walking distance to the train, all the ferries, Sydney Bridge and The Opera House. We will definitely be back.

A lovely old hotel in a fabulous situation close to Circular Quay, the bridge and opera house. Staff really helpful and friendly. Good breakfast and bar. Rooms somewhat old fashioned but very comfortable.

We recently stayed with another couple for 3 days at the Russell Hotel in Sydney. We selected it because of location in the Historic, "Rocks" area and close to cruise terminal. it is a European boutique hotel. Our rooms were very nice and we had a good breakfast that was included each day. There is a delightful rooftop terrace and another room available to sit and relax too. delightful pubs and shops are around too. The harbor is right there. We planned a plat one evening at the Opera House. It was amazing! Another night we took a Sunset Dinner cruise too. The people behind the counter were helpful with ideas for us.

Russell Hotel Sydney -Inexpensive hotel downtown Sydney as compared to other hotels -Stayed as single with shared bathroom Cons- -Very small room -No TV, radio, clock -No fridge -Shared bathroom means across the hall or down the hall -Shower bathroom so small that I dropped my glasses and had to squat as there was no room to bend over -Water pressure in shower extremely poor -My room next to reception and sometimes noisy -Band in lounge plays until 2300 so no early sleep. Very loud. But all was pretty quite from midnight till 0800 Pros- -Very friendly and helpful staff -Will hold luggage until room is ready -Robe in room to wear to bathroom -Provided an adapter for US electrical plugs -Free WiFi and fast -Good location -Free breakfast which was decent. -Clean facility
