We had the pleasure of staying here last month and can’t recommend it enough! Great staff! The location is amazing! It’s a perfect base for a trip to Sydney. Also attached to the hotel are 2 fantastic pubs! The Fortune Of War (Sydney’s oldest) & the Push Bar where breakfast is served you also receive a10% discount in both of these!! Can’t thank the staff in all 3 for such a wonderful trip!!! Will definitely use the Russell again!!! Quirky & quaint loved it!!

The friendly and helpful staff such as Maxine were unbelievably helpful in so many ways! they ran a full service concierge service besides the desk. This hotel could be so wonderful and has so much charm but it needs a facelift in their rooms. In the wonderful area known as the Rocks, the location is superb, the vicinity of so many opportunities is easy to take advantage of, but the facility is old and tired. The bathroom was in need of new tile and the plumbing was so noisy - and hot water never did materialize in the shower. and as a shared bath and shower it was less that clean feeling. The wonder of the adjacent restaurant only added to the charm but it can't rely on others to save it...money needs to be put into refurbishing the place!.

This hotel is a good location if your embarking on a cruise as its a short walk to the terminal. The hotel is super dated and really old. No tv in the rooms or aircon and the bathroom is shared.Beds not very comfortable and its noisy.

Stayed here for two nights on the Australia Day weekend could not have asked for a better place. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room prices were very competitive and included a continential breakfast. Our room overlooked Circular Quay and Australia Day activities. It was an awesome place close to shops restaurants harbour and transport. Room was spacious and very clean and tastfully decorated. Parking station next door and easy to access. Great bar and bistro area with a relaxed atmosphere. Not a big hotel but lacked nothing. Will definitely go back and recommend to others.

Such a hard place to rate. The location gives it a 6+; so does the gentleman in reception. We went cheap. If you want to go cheap in The Rocks, expect less. We had a very small room with shared (down the hall) bath. No air conditioning, on a hot Sydney summer day. GREAT ceiling fan! But I got a huge bargain price. Were I to stay here again (and I would if we got to cruise from Sydney again) I would ask for an ensuite with air conditioning. You might be paying lots more! But, we are literally 2 blocks from the cruise terminal and 1 block from the Circular Quay train terminal. Lots to see and do in the area.

Great location if you are boarding one of the cruise lines, and want to stay somewhere overnight first. It is just across the road to Circular Quay. Walking distance to train station, if you want to go to or from airport, and shops in Circular Quay and Opera House so close. Very pleasant surroundings. Breakfast is excellent, as is the restaurant at the Russell Hotel.

Stayed at The Russell Hotel before leaving on a cruise ship the next day, & loved it!! Perfect location, could walk to everything we wanted to see, & had a great view of the bridge from the rooftop garden!! Only a 5 minute walk to where cruise ships depart, & same distance to an abundance of dining options!! Staff were super helpful, will definitely stay here again!!

The Russell hotel is a very old hotel built early 1800's, Staff very polite and helpful, rooms spotless and bed was so comfortable, Our room had ensuite/ some don't and have shared bathroom, Our room was quite small though got used to it very quickly , We were at the Russell over Christmas / New year, had great time as next door was the FORTUNES OF WAR PUB, SYDNEYS OLDEST PUB since 1828, great meals at a good price , live music, just a fantastic place . busses, trains, ferry's all on your doorstep, also Opera House and Harbour Bridge, ps breakfast included at the RUSSELL HOTEL, free wifi

If you don’t have backpains already you will after you stayed in the overpriced Russell Hotel near the Sydney Harbour. The place is not well ventilated, the airconditioning is crappy (temperatures inside are as worse as they can be outside). The bed I was supposed to have a good nights rest in had no back support at all, it feels like i slept in a hardwood canoo. The shower had two options: cold, or blistering hot. Breakfast: greasy, sugary. The only food they serve that won’t make you feel sticky is the hard boiled egg. Coffee sold seperately. On the good side: Central location between the Harbourbridge and the Opera House. Nice view.

We chose the Russell because of its location in heart of the rocks, central Sydney and it did not disappoint. Primarily in Sydney to see family and The Russell the 3rd place we stayed. Its a great old building which has been well converted into a B&B. The rooms were spacious and clean although there was a lack of storage and hanging space in the rooms. Apart from great location, it has 2 different bars/pubs attached as well as a brasserie, all of which we frequented. The breakfast was continental, pretty simple with not a large range but adequate. A nice touch on New years day was the complimentary egg and bacon rolls which were delicious and well received. They also presented us with a bottle of champagne for each of our 2 rooms on new years eve which was again a nice touch and welcome surprise. All in all a great experience and we would recommend the Russell and even stay again if back in Sydney. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful.
