We have stayed here before and had a much better room than room 8 than we had this time. The room was tiny and tired and old. The fridge leg was missing and when we opened the door scraped the floor. When I moved the clock, the top came off. The light fitting was lopsided and looked like a screw was missing. The bedcover was really old and the blanket very old and coarse. Air conditioning could not be turned down and was too large, cold and noisy. The spotlight on the verandah outside shone all night on our window. TV was not tuned in and was turned off until after 7 am. Shower was dirty. Hotel lacked maintenance. On the POSITIVE it had a great location, opposite the Southern Concourse of Central Station. It was near some great little affordable restaurants and the hotel had tasty meals for $12. Overall we will not stay here again.
Settled in the accom needed food. Asking 4 lovelyhelpful police officers. Hotel suggested. Short walk under tunnel. Old hotel checking out the menu over a schooner $6 went for the 300g special with chips and salad bestest chips. $10 nighty specials. Cheers Peter Beachy
I visit Sydney three or four times a year and I have wanted to stay here for quite some time. It is a bit cheaper than mainstream hotels, it gets reasonable reviews and it is always fully booked. Normally I would not be too critical but when I got back to the hotel on my last night and I had no TV reception I thought I needed to warn other travellers. Photos are attached - dirty, needing basic maintenance, bed linen that needs to be thrown away, flood lights next to your window that make it daylight at 4am, no blinds, curtains that look like my granny put them up in 1970. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in and believe me there is competition for that.
We were looking to book a hotel central to the Opera House and other places we planned to visit, while keeping the cost down. The Royal Exhibition filled that bill. Convenient central location Very helpful, gracious staff Updated bathroom New towels & bedspread Comfortable bed AC worked fine The elevator in this older building was a one reason I chose this hotel over others of similar vintage -- we didn't have to schlep our suitcases up the stairs! The furniture and carpet are old and worn, but the room was clean. We ate dinner at the Bistro in the hotel and were pleased. The food was good. The daily special for lunch and dinner was very reasonably priced.
We checked into this hotel early in the morning due to an early arrival in Sydney. Fortunately our room was available to move into right away. The staff were very helpful. The room was quiet. We found this out when went to toilet at 3am and there was noise coming through the window, while in the room it was silent. A great place to stop if travelling by train early in the morning.
The Royal Exhibition Hotel is a wonderful traditional Aussie pub, with affordable beer and other drinks, delicious food, plenty of television screens showing all sports, Asian barmaids, and a great Aussie atmosphere! What's more, it's just across the road from Central Railway Station!
Hidden gem - great meals, friendly staff, pokies/tab, located opposite central station, new light rail (to randwick)passes front door. Quality rooms, free wifi, room safe,tv, Small fridge, dbl glazed windows - to Keep out the noise. Hotel approx 3 1/2 stars but rooms overpriced, worth 2/3 of asking price.
The check in was done by the bar man mid to late 20s dark hair nice guy explained everything well, the keys, lift, side entrance etc. However the rooms are old like the hotel the picture rail in our room had half an inch of dust (not joking) above the bed ,in the shower above the sliding glass dust! Also in the ironing room on level 2 lots of cobwebs like the adams family house. The light fitting above the bed very loose it nearly fell off, also the writing desk on top it has a compartment I opened it up and inside was broken pieces of glass. The location is perfect 3 min walk to central and has a nice bar downstairs. It has double glass windows but occasionally you hear odd bus and a bit of street noise from the clubs next door, drunks etc.
Very clean and comfortable rooms. Staff were extremely helpful. Meals/drinks on site made it easy to stay. Right across the road from Central Station which was very helpful. Would certainly stay there again
Stayed for 6 days at the Royal Exhibition Hotel. Virtually just opposite the South Concourse of Central Railway Station so made it so easy to access the train network. The second level room was comfortable with a lovely bed. Shower excellent. The bistro produces an excellent meal at a most reasonable price. Service by the courteous staff was excellent. If you are looking for a quaint hotel with a good location then this is the place.
