Marco Polo Motor Inn Sydney

The location is great. The train station into Sydney is only two blocks away and the train goes directly into Sydney in about 17 minutes. Very easy, even for us out of town people. Parking at the motel is free (not the case in some other hotels we looked at), so we left our car there and took the train into Sydney. There are also some good restaurants about 2-3 blocks away. We ate a very tasty wood fired pizza one night. There is also an IGA supermarket nearby. As others have noted, this is not a new motel. It is definitely showing signs of age. The bathrooms have not been renovated in quite some time, the layout is a bit different too, with the rooms on the outside of a multiple story rectangle and the middle is empty and you can see the cars from the middle. You can hear guests in the next room if they are noisy. We did not hear any traffic noise. We were there with our 13 and 16 year old sons and it was a pretty tight squeeze into the one room. I still give it 5 stars because it is great value for money. The room was clean (under the beds, bathroom, sheets, new towels every day etc), the staff were very friendly, polite and helpful (and spoke English). We had an issue with our toaster and they fixed it right away in a friendly way. The kindly explained where to go for the trains, restaurants, etc. There is a fridge, toaster, kettle so we could have snacks and make sandwiches for our outings. I felt safe in the neighbourhood, even when we came home late at night. The last time we stayed in Sydney we stayed at Park Royal Hotel at Darling Harbour, which was great, but had a completely different price tag. This time, the kids were a bit older and we felt that our money was better spent enjoying the sights and food. When I booked the motel I read some of the reviews and was not quite sure. To others I can now say that this is a budget motel, very much showing its age, and so staying there is a bit like staying at a caravan park, but it is clean, friendly, in a fantastic location and very good value for money. I would be very happy to stay here again.

This is a budget meets unclean and unloved. One of those properties where the owners are just using it as a cash cow while waiting to develop the site. The mattress was OK. It’s a bit hard to be positive about anything else.

Pros: -Parking available -Short walk from the train and a nice shopping/restaurant strip -Clean room -Comfortable bedding -Good AC unit Cons: -They sent a family to try to enter my room after they checked in, apparently the staff have no idea where people are staying and for how long. I don’t appreciate random people trying to get into my bedroom but this mistake was clearly due to carelessness on part of the staff. -The sink in room 214 is in desperate need of repair, if you turn it on just the slightest it explodes water all over the room. Basic maintenance is expected in a motel, and this sink needs immediate refitting. -The windows rattle like crazy with the smallest hint of wind and I had to pack a towel into the area around it in order to sleep. They badly need replacing. The curtains have huge rips in them as well. -The door has a full inch of space underneath it for noise, cold, and pests to come and go as they please. I saw several cockroaches in my room during my stay and had to use another towel to block it up at night. These doors also need replacing. -The wifi is slow and unreliable, cutting out regularly. -The kettle lid is broken and won’t close. It’s very obvious damage so it means several staff would have seen it by now and have still done nothing. They just don’t care. -There are random frayed wires hanging out from under the table in my room, I hope they weren’t live but I wasn’t willing to check. Hazardous and unsightly. -Everything is so white I felt like I was in a hospital. Nothing cozy about sensory deprivation. -There are always children screaming somewhere in the complex, at all times of the day and night. They really should put a noise curfew in place for the comfort of their guests. (And enforce it.)

Booked for 3 nights and only stayed the one. 3 adults and two children all cramped into one room. Aircon right above the bunk bed. Top bunk unsafe. Bathroom very small, no holder for toilet roll. 1 chair and table. Just overall very unkepted rooms. My son asked to change rooms, and got told would cost extra $175. Walking up 3 flights of stairs for an elderly person with two knee replacements not good. Left after just staying overnight.

Bad points: Aircon dripped water down over its own power point & remote and formed a puddle on the floor. Water pressure in the shower was abysmal, and would wildly fluctuate from hot to cold of its own free will. For 5 people the room was stocked with 4 plates and 3 forks. Fit and finish of the room can be described as cracked, ill fitting or falling off. Housekeeping took away 5 towels and replaced 4. Towel rail would fall off if you put a towel on it. Reception staff were not friendly or welcoming, not even a g'day. Good points: Electronic locks on the doors and security gate for entry. Only a few minutes walk to the train station. Cheap for the location with onsite secure parking.

We stayed for a total of 9 days. The room was spacious, newly renovated and kids friendly. The motel was in the midst of upgrading whilst we were there, but still very quiet. There was an excellent array of amenities in the room, more than what you would expect to find in a motel room. Well-made bed, sheets crisp and clean, fluffy clean towels and refreshements which were replaced and replenished daily. Secure parking accessed by pass only. The staff were friendly and helpful. Truly 5 star service. A variety of restaurants nearby, 2 mins away from train line and bus service in both direction and stops right outside. We'll definitely stay here again!

The room smelt of cigarette which was a none smoking room the plumbing was making a terrible noise could not sleep you could smell someone smoking marijuana that was coming through a hole in the wall from the apartment next door just a very poor experience would not recommend at all All for a grand total $200 never again avoid this place like the plague.

Stayed 9 nights and had to leave a note for the cleaner each day e.g. no coffee,no tea towel, no milk, clean the floor, etc.Something different each day. Also the shower needed replacing, heater needs replacing and holes in the curtain.Room was badly in need of an major renovation.Spare blancket was dirty and the room was cold.We did not expect 5 star but expected somethind better then 2 star.We have stayed there 4 years ago and we received what we paid for. This time, under different managemen, thing have gone downhill badly.7 out of 9 nights we were disturbed througout the night by very noisy neighbours.Sorry but I would not recommend this place again. However I must say that the staff,Charlie in particular, were very helpful.

Do not take any notice of photos this place posts of its rooms. They are nothing like that. Take a look at the photos I took with my own eyes. What a dilapidated, rusty, broken, shocking view, old, stale room, patched mix matched carpet. Had to ask for towels. When checking in an upgrade was mentioned ..... if this was an upgrade what on earth does a downgrade look like? The only reasonable things were parking, though tight, and a train station not too far away. Could have stayed in Darling Harbour for $25 more. Kicking myself big time. Should have refused such conditions. Will NEVER ever return.

Well run large motel situated on the busy Parramatta Road. Bus, in both directions, stops right outside and provides a fast trip into the Sydney CBD. The Light Rail station is two minutes away and takes you to the Tramsheds complex, fish market, casino, Darling Harbour etc. Clean, secure, safe parking and well maintained but in dire need of refurbishment which appears to be underway. Aircraft noise is a bit of a 6am issue. Still the good service and great location makes this worthy of consideration.
