This place claims to be a "private hotel" when all it is, is a hostel/backpackers place. I had called the hotel earlier in the day to let them know that we would be arriving between 12am-2am as we were driving from Melbourne. The man I spoke to told me that once we got there, to call on the same number and someone would let us in. Once we arrived, I called the number 14 times and no one would answer. We tried calling the door bell but still nothing. We then managed to get in through a secure gate by following someone else in and managed to locate the person on duty. He then handed us 3 keys and there were 11 of us booked to stay there. When we got to our rooms, 1 of them had someone else sleeping in there so we had to resort in sleeping 11 people on 2 rooms. The next morning I went to reception to try and sort out the issue and get a refund for one of the rooms and the man told me he could not issue me a refund as I had to wait for the manager to come in and do a refund on the credit card machine. He call the manager and was told he would be there in 15 minutes. We went and got a coffee and came back after 30 minutes only to be told that he still hadn't come in and could get onto him on the phone. When we finally got him on the phone, I was told that he doesn't start his shift until 11am so I would have to wait until then to get my refund. After explaining my whole experience and utter disgust with everything about this hotel I was told "well it's not the Hilton, what were you expecting". The rooms themselves were very dirty, there was mold and stains all over the walls and ceilings, parts of the timber floors were lifting or missing, the beds were wobbly and uncomfortable and the tiny little sink in the corner stunk of urine. Some beds had sheets and others didn't and we didn't even get bath towels. There is nothing nice about this place apart from the location.
This is not a 'hotel' but a hostel. Yes, you pay for you get but this was an all time low. To start with high, this place is in a great location. Bars/restaurants across the road and close to the kings cross station. Fairly quiet patrons. The rooms are small but comfortable and clean. The room smell musty the entire time and the fan was filled with dust and looked like it had never been cleaned. Free wifi is advertised but no password given out and if you want fresh towels you need to ask for them... hotels you get that almost daily. We booked a room with an ensuite however when we arrived apparently that wasn't what we had booked and we were told we would have to use the shared bathroom facilities. I've camped around Europe, staying in campsites and sharing bathrooms and I have NEVER seen anything more disgusting in my life than highfields female bathrooms. They look like they've been cleaned once a week. Clumps of hair everywhere. Stained and dirty, I didn't want to touch anything. There is one basin and no power points yet you cannot blow dry your hair in your room?! I don't believe this 'hotel' would be up to standard if it were to be inspected.
A cheap place perfect after a long flight. 100meter from the train station and easy to find. Free breakfast and the rooms are Really nice! IT is around 2minutes Walk to coles supermarket and 3minutes Walk to the bars/pub's!
I visited Sydney from London with my 7 month old daughter. We stayed here for 4 nights. We arrived late and there was a number to call on the door, we were welcomed in... I was travelling with LOTS of luggage and had a room on the top floor, there is no lift... the guys carried all my bags up for me and as I was hungry, one of the guys walked me round the corner (daughter in baby carrier) to find some food, he also bought me a large bottle of water and donated a few beers to me! So helpful! The room was fine, it had air con, fridge, tv and private bathroom. We did have a few cockroaches in the room but I didn't mind. The room was clean, but you do have to ask to get your room cleaned. The shared kitchen was 2 floors down so it was a bit of a struggle getting milk and food for my daughter but we managed! Breakfast is very basic but fine. The staff were fantastic and couldn't be more helpful! Great location! I would recommend this hotel for anyone on a budget.
My wife and I Stayed at the Highfield Private Hotel at Potts point. The hotel while basic was outstanding value for its location and very clean. We upgraded to a room with ensuite when we arrived. The room was small but quiet and suited our needs with a comfy bed. The staff were terrific. This hotel is very close to public transport and a pleasant walk through the botanical gardens to the city and circular quay. Would highly recommend to those looking for convenience on a budget.
I got to the hotel before I could check in but the staff were happy to look after my bag. My single bed was comfy as was the pillow. I shared the bathroom but as I didn't take a towel and one wasn't provided, I went showerless for the one night I was there. About 500m to Kings Cross Station. About 20 minute walk to the Sydney Art Gallery. 5 minutes to a supermarket. The kitchen at the hotel is open for you to cook. I was late for breakfast and although there was no bread left I enjoyed muesli and a well needed cup of tea. Good value hotel
We had an exceptional time here at Highfield, upon check in we were greeted with warm hospitality. Its very nice after a long haul flight + lay over. Room upgradecomplimentary. WiFi, brekky, clean perfect.
The title says it all! ThanK you Allan for the great customer service. We are a family of three (with a 3y.o. child). The free breakfast was just a bonus- bread provided, boiled eggs, butter, jam, cereals, milk, coffee, tea, juice - super generous management. Building is safe, had a good sleep each night. Can be noisy at times during late night, but didnt bother us at all - had a good night sleep. We had a great time staying in this hotel. Kudos to the management, keep it up!
Great staff who are committed to you having a great stay. It is a quaint little hostel with a great free breakfast. They are working had to update the building and overall we had a very comfortable stay. One tip: Remember that you are booking a hotel in the backpackers district of Sydney so on a Friday night we noticed it to be a bit loud, so buyer beware.
We were located right next to the staircase and close to the kitchen. The rooms weren't sound isolated and there was a gap between the door and the door frame in the bottom, so all they noise traveled directly into the room. We were there for three nights and didn't get a good night sleep. We were getting woken up by people come home from a night out and from people having a party in their room. The only good thing about this place is the location close to Kings Cross Station and friendly staff
