Lovely motel with spacious rooms, comfortable beds and nice indoor courtyard. Close to light rail so an easy trip into the city. 711 next door for snacks water etc. Secure parking on site. Rooms situated around the courtyard and even though on busy Parramatta Road the rooms are quiet with no traffic noise.
I had paid the full price for 4 nights for two rooms that were not worth the $300 per night charge each. I had paid well in advance the full price through Agoda which I do not recommend cause I could not change my mind when I got there. To make matters worse they held $200 on my debit card from 29 Dec til 4 January and refused to release it earlier when I asked them to. It finally lapsed on 4 January but was a bad customer experience cause I did not need the stress of calling my bank while on holiday...The spa rooms were very very basic and when you used the shower the whole bathroom was covered with water as there was no door to the shower. The rooms were not clean and spa not cleaned by cleaners. The staff had difficulties understanding English and only knew how to follow rules and appeared to know little about customer service. I would never stay there again!!! My overseas guests complained about the noise in the middle of the night from the room next door they could hear the next door 4:30 AM prayers and the banging of the pipes when they took a shower! I had to beg reception to leave our bags in our rooms all packed the day we were leaving cause we were to do the Opera house tour very early that morning before reception opened. they wanted the bags already at reception by 11 pm the night before which meant we could not take a shower so in the end they consented to us leaving the bags in one room and they moved the bags to reception when reception opened but it was a battle!!! If you want signs of what not to touch and do and fight for customer service then this challenging place is for you. If you want a relaxing stay I recommend to avoid.
My wife and I stayed there for two nights and three days in a double room. The room was a good size with facilities like ironing and safe deposit box. tea/coffee making facility, and a LED TV and wifi (which did not always work). Lots of space to move around. The bathroom was spacious and clean. There was a small balcony looking out to the Paramatta Road.! Downstairs, there is a big quadrangle with sitting and eating space and cutlery and plates available to all guests. We entertained guests there with the permission of the reception. Did not have to wash the plates and cutlery . Were kept for the maids who prepare the place every morning for a 12 dollar breakfast. There is a 7/11 store next door which is very convenient for getting breakfast and quick freshly prepared snack lunch. Just a short walk away there is another suburb where there are plenty of restaurants serving different types of food.
I stayed here with my son during a recent sporting event at nearby Ashfield. The rooms were clean, comfortable and well-priced. The decor is dated but that was really of little importance. Parking was secure, plentiful and outside. There is a 7-11 next door which is convenient. Light rail is a 5-10 minute walk down the road. The breakfast is not much to speak of but it is ok for the price. There are not a lot of options in the neighbourhood otherwise. There is a laundry and wi-fi too.
Because this isn’t the shortest review, I’ll start with a synopsis. The property is very comfortable, and certainly good value for the price you pay. Getting around Sydney from the property is very easy. There are negatives to this property, but all-in-all, the property is an excellent place to stay. I spent six nights at Garden Lodge Sydney, and I would absolutely say the accommodation was absolutely where I would have expected for the price, if not better. The bed was comfortable and provided a good night’s sleep. While the location is right next to a relatively busy road, I didn’t experience any issues with road noise. There is, from time to time, some noise from aircraft overhead and nearby trains, however it is not anything worth getting too upset about. The one noise that was quite frustrating was the noise of doors in the morning. It is quite difficult to close the door to your room without it slamming, and a lot of people appear to not bother at all, given the loud slamming that starts around 7:30am. The property isn’t right in the centre of Sydney, there’s very nearby access to buses and the light rail line. There’s also a train station very close by, however I found it easier in most cases to use the light rail to Central Station, then transfer there, rather than walking the extra distance to the train station to effectively do the same thing. My first interaction with the property when arriving was not a great one. I requested an early check in, which I was told would be okay. However, when I arrived at the property, I was advised the room would not be ready for another 15 minutes. This was quite frustrating, and not the best way to start my stay. Provided in the room was four biscuits, some tea, coffee and sugar. Something like a hot chocolate or milo would have been nice, but not a big issue. There’s also a 7/11 next door where you can get a coffee or whatever else you want. It’s open 24 hours, and is of the utmost convenience. The internet isn’t the most reliable I’ve ever used, however it works well most of the time, and is quite fast when it does. Not the biggest issue in the world. One big issue for me in accommodation is the shower. I hate it when there’s weak shower pressure that makes for an unpleasant shower. That was anything but an issue here. It did, however, take a little getting used to the fact there’s no door on the shower. It doesn’t feel right, but works the same, and is something you get used to very quickly. The one thing that would have been nice is a shelf by the bathroom sink. Because my toiletries were just sitting on the sink, it meant that the housekeepers had to move it all around when they cleaned – something I would have preferred to not have. That, of course, isn’t anything against the housekeeping team. They had no choice, because they had to clean the sink. Somewhere else to put my things would have been useful. The property has a quite lovely indoor courtyard that is a wonderful place to sit. In that area, you’ll find some cutlery and crockery should you need it, and a vending machine with the sort of things you’d find in a hotel minibar, minus the alcohol. There is also a microwave available in that area. All-in-all, I was very happy with my stay at Garden Lodge Sydney, and will absolutely be considering it in future when I visit the city again.
I stayed 7 nights at the Garden Lodge and slept poorly most nights. The traffic noise was awful and the walls are paper thin. It's a motel set up where the two storeys of rooms face into a central seating area. It's actually not bad when you walk in but the problem with this set up is the noise. The noise from other guests arriving at 2am and then leaving at 6am. Also the noise from the staff setting up for breakfast from 7am ish and then the noise of breakfast. Then housekeeping starts from anything from 8am onwards! Most often this wouldn't bother me but I wanted a couple of lie ins which are completely impossible at this hotel. Talking about housekeeping even if you hang a do not disturb sign on the door and shout through the door to the staff that the room is fine and I want to sleep they still come in! This is not only rude it completely misses the point of a hotel. If I rent a room and want a lie in then that's up to me not the hotel staff. When I say lie in 9am would have been nice. So the ridiculous thing is I tried to sleep as early as possible so when I was woken up early I had at least has some rest. I left the hotel with utter joy and relief. The wifi was useless, the bathroom drain smelt horrible and the toilet seat did not fit properly. I asked to move rooms but they were full. The shower was fine as was the bed. But...and it's a big but....any small positives were massively outweighed by the noise and lack of sleep. If you do stay here getting the Train from Summer Hill station is a lot quicker than the light rail. Summer hill station is a four minute walk up Sloane Street. As I said if you like sleep and rest do not stay at this horrendous hotel.
Had a room on the second floor, and surprisingly, traffic noise on Parramatta road wasn't an issue. Room was spacious with a Queen & single bed. Wifi was good. Bathroom appeared to have been recently renovated. Wider shower wall in the bathroom would've prevented water splash outside the shower. The Motel's tired facade doesn't reflect these updates. The Motel is 2 mins walk to Light Rail and walking distance to the train station. A bus runs along Parramatta road outside. A 7-Eleven is next door and Red Rooster, McDonalds not far away. Otherwise not much around. Mix of industrial and residential. I would stay here again because of the availability of public transport and reasonable price.
Me and my friend stayed at the Garden Lodge Sydney for two weeks in July 2017. The hotel overall gave us a positive experience, the pros: .8 minute walk to train station .Bus stops outside the hotel .You are able to cook your own food using their equipment .Has a relaxed atmosphere . You have the option to buy breakfast on days you choose . Room is cleaned and fresh towels are given daily . Good facilities in room (safe, kettle, t.v) . Friendly helpful staff The cons of this motel: . Musty smell in room when first arriving (have seen other reviews claiming the same) . Curtain pole was coming off the wall . There is a washing machine and tumble dryer which is great however it's always in use so we didn't get the chance to use it. In my opinion the pros far outweigh the cons. Overall if you're expecting a 5 star stay the garden lodge isn't for you, if you are looking for a good value for money hotel that offer all the basics for a comfortable stay then go for it. I would stay at this motel again.
It is a small Motel and buses to central is a short walk from the Hotel. I will suggest taking bus instead of Train to City especially during winter coz of the coldness A 7-11 is next to Motel which u can buy food & drinks and even topping up Opal card Receptionist Mansi is helpful too. She will try her best to help us whenever we sought help or advice from her I like best is the cozy foyer where we used to cook and prepare simple breakfast and dinner during our stay there It seems one washer and one dryer is insufficient coz most days machines were heavily used n we couldn't able to do our laundry
We arrived in Sydney to stay for 4 nights & went to the pre booked hotel in Summer Hill. I had a feeling that the hotel was in poor to bad condition so asked to inspect the offering, & promptly left for another place o stop. This brought us to the Garden Lodge where I inspected the room being offered. A 500% improvement on what I had previously seen, so we checked in. Even tho the hotel is right on Parramatta road & under the flight line for Sydney the room was so quiet. The standard of the room was excellent, large & with all the little things like soaps tissues extra towels Wi-Fi secured car parking buses at the door to the city light rail to the city & trains not far away. Thr area has many restaurants all of which are accessible by bus or light rail. The building has an internal courtyard, covered, with tables & chairs & all that is needed to make your own meals or just relax in the lounges A top location close to the city centre & only $110 per night. Its a bargain
