Our firm had its partners meeting here and it was very comfortable and cost effective. The Horizon rooms get use of Meeting rooms which were well appointed and serviced. Restaurants were High Standards but seemed to be subject to intimidation in not selling alkohol during rhamadan. Fortunately Indonesia is not a sharia law domain and large corporate hotels like shanggrilah should resist the drive for Imposting islam on all of us. They should at least tell guests at the time of booking.
Several times I go here always attending an event or invitation and I always go inside by ballroom door. But today the ballroom door is close and I try to find where main lobby is. Then the main lobby is far away from parking area. Lol. You need more energy to go inside. 😋 Today also my first time to sit in long time for a meeting in this lobby. The interior so wondeful, etnhic, and make me feel home. Its like my grandma's house, big, lux, and warm. The staff also hello to me, give me welcome drink and very impolite. I hope someday I got a chance to explore the room and spend one night here. See you again shangrila. You awesome!
I was here for business just for a couple of days so can’t say I used all the facilities but was very impressed with what I saw. Can’t speak about the location as this was my first time in Surabaya. This is an enormous hotel and very luxurious. The room was huge, clean and spacious. No stupid lighting and temperature controls that you can’t work out (the ones that are like an IQ test), which is always a bonus. Temperature control was fine, and the room was very quiet. My view was on the city. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and very nicely finished. The shower was a walk-in, as I’d expect in a hotel of this standard, which is always so much better than one over the bath. Good pressure and temperature. The bathroom didn’t have those stupid little pedal bins that fall over when you step on the pedal, a real bug-bear of mine. Wi-fi was fast, free and worked everywhere. I didn’t have time for breakfast due to an early flight, and didn’t use any of the restaurants or other facilities so can’t comment. Staff were very friendly and keen to help. All in all, highly recommended.
I have to mention the excellent hospitality received during my stay on the 2nd May 2018. Warm and friendly staff.. from reception to room service! And with comfortable beddings completed my hectic business trip. Keep it up!
My "place to stay" during visits to Surabaya... Recently had all of the rooms renovated within the last year, where the rooms are top notch. Clean, bathrooms are fresh, and the service is fantastic at the hotel. Pool area is very nice, and offers a waterslide and wading pool for the kids. Breakfast is not as "vast" as it once was, but offers something for everyone from all parts of the world and is very good.
I usually only stay at shangrila when Im on business and this is one of the more well maintained ones (they are currently undergoing some renovation and I got a renovated room I think, #1403). Friendly and efficient reception. Only stayed one night so I don't have any impression of the surrounding amenities. Ordered room service for breakfast the night before and it turned up punctually the next morning. Orange juice was freshly squeezed as advertised and not one of those cordial things. Coffee was great too. Free WiFi worked fine - no password required.
I rarely make reviews of hotels online, however this one worths to spend my time on and do the effort. Great hotel - product and people! Visited for a business trip after a long time and I’m happy to experience their hospitality again. Horizon Club is a must if you are a business traveler! You have all the convenience there in the busy meetings days or just to relax in between. My guests felt welcomed and comfortable too which is very important for me when I travel by business. Again the team makes it all. The food and the service in their Japanese and buffet restaurants is great. I was very happy to meet Mr. Roberto Leone, their F&B Director, that I know from another hotel in Singapore and experience the service of his team again! Kudos, Roberto, you have a great team again and I’m not surprised at all knowing how you lead! Highly recommended spot in Surabaya! You’ll be in very good hands!
Room was ok. Bit a funny smell in the room and the corridors. The room was quite noisy. Not really the same sort of Shangri-La hotel quality and feeling of luxury as in Singapore or in other cities. But it is also much cheaper. There are better hotels in town.
I arrived into Surabaya with a film crew to get some shots of patchouli being harvested only to find out that the place I wanted to go to in Surabaya was shut down. Apart from the property itself, the Shangri-La is an oasis from the hustle of the city. The little things a traveler would never expect - the distinct and familiar "Shangri-La scent" one smells upon entering a property to the wifi on my mobile, iPad and Apple laptop, all connecting automatically - seamless from a prior visit to a DIFFERENT property...oh, and not only in the building, but in their cars as well! Good job, Shangri-La! Now, back to my adventure. No patchouli growers or distributors, and I felt like I wasted valuable time and other resources to come to Surabaya. I told this to the concierge desk how disappointed I was and went to my room. While walking across the lobby, the concierge on duty, Michelle, noticed me and rushed over to tell me she found not only a distributor, but also where it is grown and harvested...in Banda Aceh, about two hours away by plane in West Sumatra. She arranged everything, to the amazement of myself and my team. She took care of everything and then handed me a detailed itinerary the next morning before leaving for the airport to fly to Banda Aceh. INCREDIBLE. The next day, we flew to Banda Aceh and met three gentlemen who took us deep into the mountains to show us exactly what we flew to Indonesia for - to see wild patchouli being harvested! Really incredible. I am typing this and I still can't believe it! Thank you Michelle! Thank you Shangri-La! You guys have quite an asset with Michelle and the rest of the group!
This is a very big hotel with strategic location. Thank you for Mr Leon on reservation desk with very good service. Quiet and clean room. Very fast and free internet. Good breakfast with local traditional food and drink ( you must try Jamu, one Indonesian traditional health drink ) They have many restaurant in the hotel.. Thank you for Veni from Shang Palace Restaurant with your very good service. At all very satisfied with the service, and will come back again .
