Mercure Hotel Stuttgart Airport Messe4.0 out of 5.0

For some reason, our price was 169 Euros. Not only, did we pay too high, which I'm a little embarrassed we did, the small parking lot free parking, was packed, and not available, so we were forced to take our rental car back the night before. The food in the restaurant was the worst,(greasy), for the price, eaten in Austria and Germany, and the only item that I was impressed with was, the location near the airport, as we were flying out early, I would not stay here again, if I was ever fortunate enough to travel back there.
I flew into Stuttgart in the evening and had to return to the airport the next morning, so the Mercure Hotel Stuttgart Airport seemed like a convenient option, as they offer a quick, free airport shuttle service. And indeed, it was a practical solution. It's nothing fancy, but the place looks relatively sharp. It would gain points if they changed the stained rug in the hallway. The rooms and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The restaurant downstairs provided a fairly nice meal for a reasonable price. (I enjoyed the German red wine.) And the staff at the reception was friendly. My room overlooked an inner patio with tables and someone — perhaps part of the staff or another guest — woke me up before 8am as he/she moved some chairs around. I was hoping to sleep a little longer that morning. So if I find myself returning to this hotel, I might ask for a room facing the exterior of the building instead. The rate that I was offered was €109 per night — or €123, which included wifi and a rather satisfying breakfast buffet until 10am. Not too bad.
For a recent business trip to Stuttgart we stayed at the Mercure just minutes from the modern airport. The hotel staff was cheery and very helpful throughout. The rooms were well maintained and generally comfortable. Breakfast was typical European food. The location is a bit challenging as there are no appealing restaurants nearby. Taxi everywhere you go. The waiter in the pub offered tremendous service often flying solo for a decent Thursday evening crowd.
Not really worthy of a review. But probably important to do so. Staff not interested in helping out the tourist types, only interested in corporates who speak German. The food at the dinner restaurant was better that average. The a/c in the room did not work - it was as hot as hell.
I've tried this hotel for the exhibition in messe. Price was very high for a hotel of this level. Generally we had proper accomodation but there are things to improve. Cleanliness and silence was ok, no problems. breakfast was also rich and did satisfy me fully. Staff is helping yes but more information could have been given to the customers beforehand. For example I could discover the shuttle on third day when I ask. Until then we have used taxi to reach messe and airport. Strangely enough, we were asking for taxi from reception but not told there is a shuttle free of charge for the first two days. Metro to the city center is very very close and convenient to use. One more thing to mention was unstable water temp. in the shower and low water pressure. Temperature of the shower water was difficult to adjust and even if you manage to do it, it was getting too hot for few seconds and then returning back. Low pressure forced me to keep it in my hand all the time. It was one of the worst shower experiences I had in hotels -surprisingly in Germany!-. Apart from these, rest of the hotel experience was good, no problems in bed, internet free of charge, big bottle of water free of charge, Not much to do around but access to the city center was very easy. I would stay again with a better shower and more reasonable price level in the future.
When my colleague and I pulled up at this hotel outside Stuttgart, he said 'This looks like the kind of place one might come to end it all'. He was joking of course, but I could understand what he meant. The hotel sits on a faceless block near major roads and the airport. It is uninspiring, urban and grey. But all airport hotels are much the same and I really hate them. Their very approximation to major roads and transport hubs is what makes them both convenient, as well as ugly carbuncles. Such hotels are usually fine for a night or two (max), but we were here for four. I'm not sure how that happened. Actually I am. My office is to blame. Inside, the hotel was clean and relatively basic. The room was spacious and a little tired in appearance. It was also a little cold - though the heaters were efficient in warming it up. The bathroom was fine and the shower passable. The room was dark though, and I found it both difficult to read when working late at night, and annoying to switch all the lamps off (which I had to first switch on to see). An over head light would have fixed this. Decor in the rooms and corridors consisted of really cheap and hideous pictures made from movie stills. Or I think that's what they were. The room had a TV with a range of international channels, but only BBC World for us Brits. There was a coffee machine with complimentary coffee, but when I went to fill up the reservoir with water, I noticed that the inbuilt Britta filter was utterly ancient, and had a greasy film over it. It clearly hadn't been cleaned in a while and completely put me off using it. That said, the rest of the room was clean, and cleaned well each day. Breakfast was reasonably good, with a wide range of hot and cold food served in a buffet. I've had far worse. We ate in the restaurant one evening though and the food was pretty bad. Not badly cooked as such, but just basic staples. Sausage and meat and so on. The beer was, however, delicious. Overall I would recommend taking a taxi into Stuttgart in the evening and eating there (journey time 30 minutes or so and €25). The taxis are excellent. The hotel staff were all lovely and spoke excellent English. My search for a decent airport hotel goes on then. But you could do worse than this one. Overall though, I would head into Stuttgart and look at other more interesting options for accommodation.
This is an excellent hotel for a few nights. My husband had business at the nearby military base, so this location was great for the first night because it is close to the airport. The room was spacious, but we did book a suite the "normal" sized room is pretty small by American standards. The breakfast was great, everyday they changed it up and the staff were always nice and accommodating. The onsite restaurant had very good food, but it was expensive. 25 to 32 Euros for an entree, this is not inline with what the restaurants in the area are charging. Across the stree is the U-Bahn, so if you plan to take the train this is an excellent location. There is a grocery store you can walk to, a deli within walking distance and a chinese restaurant. For all other things you need to go by car or take the train. I would stay at this hotel again and I would recommend it to others (non military) for 3 nights or less. For military info...this hotel does not take the VAT form but the nearby SI-suites does
We chose this hotel because of its closeness to Ubahn and as we were going to go several places by train this was important. We took 2 rooms here. A big breakfast area with a great deal of variety and as there was Christmas theme her it was so very pretty. We always do thorough searches when were go travelling and take on board what others have written and I would have to say they were mostly pretty accurate. For our stay over the few days each day was met with the same friendliness all around. As we are from Australia we wanted to be just outside the main city, so we did not have to use the car and master the traffic and get trains so we could drink. at the Christmas markets. We managed to get a spot in the street outside for free to park our car. A bonus. I would recommend this hotel for many reasons. Lifts to room, English TV, Tea and coffee facilities, drink machine downstairs, extra pillows in room, great coffee in breakfast area, train instructions quite clear at the station. No bar fridge, didn’t need it and no bar heater in room. For Ubahn go outside hotel turn right then first on left. From memory there was a super market down the street on the left.
Stayed one night at the hotel. Staff was friendly and the room was clean. Pretty close to the airport and congress center. There is a supermarket in walking distance. The bar is pretty nice and "old school style".
Stayed here a few evenings while in Stuttgart for business. It's located approximately 10 minutes for the airport and 15 minutes from some of the U.S. Installations. Additionally, train access in to city center is a two minute walk from the hotel. The staff was very friendly, breakfast was good, hotel is clean, rooms (in my opinion) are overpriced, parking is $15 a day, Greek bartender was a lovely addition. Comfortable stay; safe choice.
