I was in Stockholm for a wedding and chose the Hotel Hellsten based on the pictures on its website and some reviews I'd read. It had also appeared in the Wallpaper guide to Stockholm as a good place to stay. But I have to say I was quite disappointed. I booked a junior suite which had lots of room and high ceilings and had decorative furniture from Africa and Asia and a very comfortable four poster bed. But I have never seen a worse excuse for a wardrobe. Hiding behind the front door was a diy disaster made out of a couple of pieces of wood with an old internal door stuck on. It was tiny as well. It's a good thing I was only there for a couple of nights because otherwise there would have been nowhere to hang clothes. It would be far better to install a lovely old wardrobe that complemented the decor and actually provided proper hanging space than to expect guests to use the botch job that's there at the moment. Also there is no room safe and the wall mounted tv has ugly exposed cables coming down the wall. The breakfast conservatory was boarded up down one side. It looked like the glass had been broken for some time, and the side you could see out of looked on to a small, dirty and neglected courtyard that had certainly seen better days. It's a shame because the location is great and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. The idea of this hotel with its boutique style is great but it requires maintenance and attention to detail. It looks like the owner has taken his eye of the ball and is focusing his attention elsewhere (probably the newer Hellsten in Sodermalm). This is not a budget hotel but the points I have raised rather made it feel like one. Hellsten really needs a style reboot and quickly...
Overall good experience. The hotel is well located but the standard of the rooms was too low for the price we paid for them: they were dark and our bathroom was very small. The breakfast was good and the staff was nice.
friendly and modern hotel, well located in Stockholm city. Really attraktive room with enough space, modern bathroom and wide breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and we can absolutely recommend this hotel!
We really enjoyed the beautifully decorated junior suite room which was luxurious, very spacious and full of character. The breakfast buffet was extensive and in a lovely sunny large dining room. The staff were very helpful and there was even a comfortable lounge area with quality coffee and tea for guests. This hotel was also reasonably priced for what they offer.
Beautiful interior design with very comfortable beds. Great price for being in middle of Stockholm with plenty of late night bars round the corner. The staff wer friendly & the breakfast good too. Love this hotel 😊
Hotel is well located to start sighseeing either by foot or underground Rooms are extremely small, especially bath room. Only a very small wardrobe with 4 coat hangers Friendly and supportive staff Very good breakfast Dinner at the restaurant next door was very good and open also on Sunday when most restauranaats in Stockholm are closed
Hello everybody, I have to say that our room (located at the 5 floor) was really too small (and the bathroom too) and my opinion is that the hotel policy about the cleaning is almost insufficent. Thanks
I've been to plenty of countries and stayed in my share of hotels, but I've never walked into a hotel room and said "wow!" That's exactly what happened at the hotel hellsten, though. Taking this hotel room was like being transported to an alternate reality where my wife and I were rotary in some castle of days past. The decor was amazing. Pair that with the great staff, delicious breakfast, and central location, and you have a hotel that you can't go wrong with!!
Great stay. Our 'small double room' was small (obviously) but what it lacked in space it made up for in charm. Great location - close to a t-barn station and within walking distance if Drottingsgatan.
The hotel is situated north of the city centre close to many shops, bars and restaurants. It is possible to walk into the city centre from here, but the metro and bus services are close by to get you to most places. Staff here were very pleasant and most helpful in sorting out our daily itineraries, and offering good local advice. Rooms are sized adequately, with comfortable beds and modern facilities. Breakfast is a buffet, offering hot and cold options, and is certainly varied and plentiful enough for a week's stay. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend the hotel for both business and pleasure.
