Holiday Inn Ana Sapporo Susukino3.5 out of 5.0

We stayed here during the first week of the Sapporo Ice and Snow Festival and obviously paid a premium price. Fortunately the location was ideal to access the ice carvings in Susukino and the subway to Odori Park. It is also central to shopping arcades, food (huge underground malls - which were great in February) and nightlife. The hotel staff were very welcoming, friendly and professional. Breakfast was included in our cost and was adequate for both Western and Asian tastes. The hotel is readily accessible to Sapporo JR station by subway which connects by rapid train to the airport. The room was basic, fairly small but spotlessly clean and although the bathroom was similar to one on a cruise ship, it was practical with a good shower.
Complimentary drinks at the Long Bar was surprisingly good. Ideal spot to hop around to good food outlets, shop underground or along the Tanukikoji shopping arcade. Clean standard room with all necessary amenities. Pleasant and courteous staff tops it all.
Ana Holiday Inn Sapporo Susukino is a perfect hotel to stay while visiting Sapporo! The hotel have a very clean and modern lobby with an excellent front desk that are fast and efficient. The rooms are small but manageable. The rooms are very well kept and feel very clean. The highlight of the hotel is it's location which is in walking distance to the main street filled with shops and restaurants and is only a 10 minute walk to the sights such as the Clock Tower, Odori Park and many of the subway stations. The Sapporo Beer Museum is also easily accessible through the subway station. A Stop Train ride along with a 15 minute walk will have you at the Sapporo Beer Museum easily. This Holiday Inn meets all expectations.
Located 2 minutes east of the Susukino subway station (Namboku line) and underground arcade and 4 minutes west of the Hosui Susukino subway station (Toho line), this makes for an ideal location to move around the city. Plenty of restaurant and entertainment options in the immediate area, including the infamous ramen alley being right around the corner. Easy access to the New Chitose International Airport CTS via either the JR Airport-Sapporo Station Express JPY1070 (subway transfer to Susukino via Namboku line JPY200 or if with luggage a short 5 minute taxi), or Airport Express Bus to Susukino JPY1030 (2 minute walk to hotel). This ANA HI hotel offers a limited amount of Japanese style rooms outfitted with simulated tatami mats and futons. These Japanese style rooms are located in the middle of the hotel configuration, thus no view. Bathroom is tiny and a bit claustrophobic with low ceilings and shower head. Heating was a bit warm and unable to control other than adjusting with an in-room humidifier. Modest sized lobby with luggage storage facilities. Status club members may be provided with a later checkout up to 2PM, and drink coupons (but limited times and upon availability of restaurant being open to the public), breakfast is not included but available as an option. Service was professional and efficient. Chose this hotel for part of the Sapporo trip due to the unique experience of a Japanese style room, which did come at a much higher cost than comparable hotels in the area at the time. If value were not a factor, would rate this hotel a 4, as rated on the HI website, but lowered to a 3 in TA, due to the value factor. Would stay here again if in the same price range as other similar quality hotels.
Yes, the rooms are small. Yes, the bathrooms are a little dated and also on the small side. But by Jove, the beds were so comfy. Even better than the Executive Suite rooms at the Tokyo Hilton. Great pillow and duvet which was exactly what I needed after escaping from the cold and snow outside. Everything was exceptionally clean. As many have stated, the location is ideal. We walked from the JR station and only resorted to taking the bus on the last day due to the ice on the pavement, which was really down to inappropriate footwear on my part. There were some rude customers causing a fuss when we checked in. I felt sorry for the staff who really went out of their way to assist us. Breakfast was equally good and certainly worth prepaying for. Slightly more Japanese items than Western carbs, but heck when in Japan. Lastly, it’s worth mentioning valve for money. Anybody complaining about the size of the rooms should accept you get what you pay for. For three nights we paid the same as one night in Tokyo.
Just checked in. Freezing cold. Yet, the location is fantastic. Ramen street is just steps away from the hotel. The room is small yet fully functional. Yup, storage and space in the room is really well thought out. Night life is all around here. The crowd is fantastic on a Saturday night. You can actually shop till you drop here. Just walk around and you will know what I mean. Food and shopping is all around the hotel. The service while checking in is classic Japanese. Efficient and unobtrusive. If I were to stay in Sapporo again, I believe this hotel is at the top of my list.
The room was small but clean with comfortable beds. The bathroom is small and can do with some refurbishment. The buffet breakfast was good with a variety of food. As usual the staff are friendly and polite.
Susukino in Sapporo is the entertainment belt, where fun and frolic takes place. The ANA Holiday Inn is located in this fun belt; with both the trams just a 4-minute walk around the corner. The direct bus from New Chitose airport stops you 3minutes away, and you walk it comfortably to the place. The Namboku subway line's Susukino stop is just around the corner. There are the usual small eat shops nearby, the various Family Marts, Mr Donut literally at your doorstep (breakfast at under Y200 is covered), and a whole litany of restaurants all within a 10-minute radius. Yea sure, the rooms are small, but the front desk and Le Verde's restaurant service more than compensate. You just gotta love the location...
we booked a superior room for our stay. the room has two single beds and no couch. don't expect a big room though. toilet is also small and very basic with bath tub. room is clean and beds are comfy. perfect place to recharge after a tiring day. staff is also very helpful in answering our queries regarding transportation, airport bus, etc. location is also quite good. train station is just a few blocks away. major shopping and restaurants around 5-10minute walk. if you want a more affordable place and does not mind being a bit far from jr sapporo station where the big malls are, this is the place to be. breakfast provided by hotel include standard but limited choices of porridge, soup, bacon, eggs, bread, fruits, salad, etc. free wifi while inside the hotel.
The location just couldn't be better. Tons of bars, restaurants and other places to hand out at night around. The rooms are small, but this is to be expected in Japan. Recommended. Metro station is within walking distance. Could be a bit closer, but not a problem.
