This is an old motel covering up its age with a "fifties" veneer (a red plastic phonograph with some 78 albums and unattractive nautical-themed furnishings). Our $310.00+ queen-bed room was small, dark and depressing. To set the mood, we had to enter the courtyard from the parking lot by passing 5 4-foot long bins of dirty laundry piled 12 feet high. We were disappointed because these were our last two days of a two week Yellowstone to California road trip with all good to great hotels in the same price range. Since Hotels.com advertised this as a "sale" rate, we expected something very nice. This place would only work if you are traveling with kids, don't care about ambience, want a room opening out onto a pool and can get in for under $200.00.
This young and hip hotel's decor is unique in that it combines Art Deco with modern styles. As soon as you enter the premises, you feel relaxed and everywhere you look you discover new cool decor articles, plants, pieces of art, interesting textures and color combinations. The garden and vegetation is truly breathtaking. The restaurant was nice and dishes good and creative but a little bit on the pricey side. Motel style rooms were remodeled and comfortable with all the bells and whistles needed. They even have vinyl players with several couple of lounge music options to choose from. At the hotel lobby, you have a vinyl disc music library you can go to and check disks out for your room. Hotel has bikes that you can borrow, all kinds of activities you can participate in, a relaxing outdoor pool area, and much more. Problem is that none of this was explained to us upon checking in and so we did not know until our bill at check out had an added $28 daily fee for what they call good life which is for all these extras. So 1- we did not enjoy any of these extras, and 2- we had to pay for it! But we complained and they refunded us for this fee. If you want a quiet type room, ask to for an outer room. The rooms facing the pool are quite noisy. None of the outer rooms have a nice view. This hotel is pet friendly to the point where employees bring their pet to work!
I decided to use Priceline to get us a 4 star or 5 star hotel in the Santa Barbara area for my 10 year-old sons baseball tournament last weekend. Hotel description noted it was just like the Marriott or W hotels. It was far from that level of quality. I'd say it was more like a 2 star motel. Yes, very eclectic. Dated. Motel. Pet friendly. Yes, they had a turntable in a suitcase int eh room along with a few vinyl records. How quaint. They also had his and hers sex kits in full display for my child to see when we entered the room. Also allowed guests to sit outside and smoke pot in front of children! Sounds like a classy place, right? Doors were on the outside with easy entrance from the exterior walkways. Hotels don't do this, only motels do. Noisy window air conditioner units. Reminded me of a Motel 6. Non-existent views, other than the adjacent parking lot. Questionable neighborhood. The nearby strip mall and a few local businesses were boarded up or vacant. For around $200 (or more) a night plus the $28 daily amenity fee plus the $30 tax, you would think I'd get something a bit classier. Just sticking the Kimpton name on an old run-down motel doesn't warrant sticker shock like that. Would I stay there again? Nope!
No housekeeping, overcharged credit card, never got our room refreshed, called three times, ended up taking out our own trash to the outside trash can. DJ played from 12-6,while my young children were supposed to be napping.
Great and very clean pet friendly home, the vibe is below it was quiet and very clean. No frills but very convenient stop off on the way to Los Olivos. The people were very nice and of course it is very pet friendly but not stinky so If yo don't have pets I would not be concerned
Great place for family and friends. - wish I had more time to spend at the property. I also wish we had brought our dog because this facility is very animal friendly and had lots of places to sit and relax. We especially wished we could have sat around the fire pits.
The property was a boutique hotel and had a fun casual but nice vibe. Each room had a vinyl record player which was a nice touch. Enjoyed my one night in Goleta at the hotel. The restaurant is good but not excellent.
Stayed here in June 2017 and it was fantastic. Kimpton did a fine job turning an old motor hotel into a bundle of delights. From the Surfer's Journal magazine in every room to the turntables to the surf and skate photos on the walls to the Woodie station wagon and Airstream out front, the place is a visual and audio treat. Kimpton obviously put a lot of thought into the interior design, and it works with a groovy, welcoming Santa Barbara beach vibe. Don't come expecting expansive rooms--they are relatively small, but very clean and decorated with style. Plus, it's Santa Barbara, so you don't want to be hanging out inside a room any way. Much more fun at the big warm, palm tree surrounded pool or in the lively bar lounge. We also had dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was quite good, and not over priced. Will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Goleta.
This hotel was so cute. We have stayed in a lot of hotels and many were the same, but we chose this hotel for it's cute decor and charm. The room we stayed in felt a little like New England. I think they decorated very well! We were there for only one night but would have been happy to stay a week! If we get back to the area, we will gladly stay here and I have already recommended this to my facebook friends (with pics). So cute and the staff was most welcoming and awesome!! Way to go Kimpton!!!
A must stay! Close to Santa Barbara, quiet with excellent service. The rooms have record players and unique decor. The staff is very friendly and the outpost restaurant has great food. Highly recommended
