Hazardous Stay - Mold, Flooding, and No Response
For context we're a group of well traveled women in our 40s who booked a moms getaway trip. The property seemed promising- while priced on the higher end the neighborhood (Condado) and what seemed like an upscale stay led us to book here.
The host refused to communicate through the VRBO app (huge red flag) and only messaged through WhatsApp. When we arrived I messaged for check-in information to which they responded they needed my license (not stated in VRBO contract) and if I didn't send it they would cancel my booking, which felt unnecessarily aggressive.
Most concerning about the stay was the flooding and mold and the lack of timely and appropriate response.
We noticed that the middle bedroom carpet was soaked and the unit had a strange odor. We were eager to get out the door due to the delayed checkin.
When we returned the room was actively flooding with water from the wall adjacent to the bathroom. The place smelled like urine and our luggage got wet. We suspect the water was sewage. That's when we noticed the black mold on the windows, the door had wood-rot, and the closet had putrid mold odors that indicated this is an ongoing issue that is being ignored. We messaged the property but didn't receive a response.
There was no response through checkout despite photos/videos of mold and flooding. They eventually responded the photos were insufficient proof. This is a disreputable "property manager" and I highly caution booking especially for health hazards.
