The room was lovely even though it was over the top of the kitchen skip and I heard the bottles being emptied in the night. Lovely and warm - too hot to sleep in fact. Nice comfortable bed. The dinner was really well organised and the buffet food excellent. Also good to get a gourmet burger at the bar after arriving on a late plane
First thoughts - tired. Second thoughts - wow! They don't build them like this any more. Magestic old lady. Definitely grew on me. Step back in time. Huge rooms and spaces. Great restaurant and bar. Excellent food. Superb cocktail waiter -
Who would believe no pool!!! Rang over 4 to confirm booking (and add to booking) and not once did they mention this. Also the room we got is very tired. Peeling paint, marked walls, marked carpets, fan hanging from exposed wires from ceiling. Add to this the free wi fi is slow and on and off. Asked for refund not able to give as we booked with grab one.
Big let down the pool been out of action since March. Rotorua no hot pool who would believe it so I said let's go somewhere else they said you have to pay because of the late cancellation thanks to booking .com
The staff in the restaurant and bar always go the extra mile. Polite, friendly and efficient. We have stayed at a lot of different Rydges and this is the best by far. Rooms are clean and tidy and location is central. Thank you again Rydges Rotorua.
We are Expedia members so got a good discount. Excellent facilities with a bar and restaurant on site. We joined the Rydges Rewards Club and saved 20% off our meal and drinks, well worth doing as it is free to join. The meal was very nice and the bar area has a good atmosphere. We will definitely be back
We spent two nights here in early July. It is on the motel mile, epitomised by the sign of RotoVegas just down the road. The whole town smells of hydrogen sulphide (eggy) due to the local geothermal activity which many tourists visit for. Fortunately this doesn't pervade the hotel rooms! Our twin queen room was very spacious and comfortably warm. I'd suggest that although the beds were very comfortable the bathroom is overdue an upgrade. The wifi was next to useless despite being free; most likely our room in the far corner of the hotel was too far from a box to get a reliable signal. At $37 per person for breakfast we decided to try Urbano across the road instead - fantastic coffee and choice of meals if you can wait until 9am.
We booked 2 rooms at this hotel. Having stayed 14 years ago we were expecting a good, classy hotel. What a disappointment. The first room was opposite a generator & the noise was dreadful. We moved rooms only to find it was filthy. My sons bed had dirty marks and hair on the sheets. There were bundles of hair on the bedroom and bathroom floor. The bed headboard was covered in dust and the basket holding the face flannels and toiletries was dirty and covered in dust. We requested that the manager come and see the room but he went off duty without contacting us or visiting the room. The night manager agreed it was filthy and moved us to another room, which was slightly cleaner. The rooms are also dated and the furniture is chipped and marked. The dining room is like a school refectory and the breakfast not edible. Staff are unpleasant (except for the Night Manager). I would avoid using this hotel.
We booked in to this place with a lot of family and friends last year for an event. Many of us booked in Feb/ March for the July event to ensure we would be guaranteed a room. In July this hotel without any notice, several of us were simpy told we had been rebooked in to other hotels and motels in the area. The reception staff were rude and at times obnoxious to our family- one an 86 year old woman with a disability when we tried to enquire as to why we had been bumped! Those of us who did get to stay were generally unimpressed. It's old and run down. Most of us have had the good sense to stay elsewhere this year but the location suits our now 87 year old aunt and she re-booked -guess what they have bumped her again. There is no care or concern for customers at this place, so don't bother booking there because they will bump you if they think they have a better opportunity. Better to go somewhere where they will treat you with some respect.
Friendly staff are the highlight of this hotel. We had a grab one voucher and spent one night here. Had drinks and dinner in the hotel and the food was good. Not fine dining but tasty. Breakfast buffet was included and it was excellent. Only negative was pool is closed - it seems indefinitely. So book somewhere else if that is crucial to you. Big spa bath in the room compensates. Room curtains were a bit dirty and one light blown but did not bother us. Room 315 if management is reading this. Thanks for a good stay.
